Why do some guys consider it the meme knife? Cuz it's size?

Large is honestly the best size in terms of balance and carry. What exactly is "meme" about the Espada

Can anyone tell me about the Cold Steel Tuff Lite? I realize it is only 25-35 Burgerbucks but this will be my first Cold Steel product and I don't want to be put off the brand if it is trash.
>>
>>30402073
>Cold Steel product and I don't want to be put off the brand if it is trash.
Prepare to be confused since Cold Steel offers a mix of trash and good quality products.

Knives up to around $150:
Decent to good

Knives greater than $150
Wildly overpriced

Swords:
Durable, at the cost of being terribly balanced and heavy and just way off from historical proportions. Only worth it for a few select models or if you get them on sale

Everything else they make:
depends on the product but most of them are just gimmicky and not great
>>
>>30402073
I've heard nothing but good things about it but it's definitely not my thing

Now something like the broken skull though
>>
>>30402333

I'm with this guy. They're pretty hit and miss. I've got a CS shovel and I love it, and their push knives are nice. I decided /k/ was full of shit with all the CS hate, so I bought one of their sanmai III kukri knives. ran me $400 and it's a mediocre blade that chips easily and wasn't even correctly polished.

I would not buy anything from CS that was more than 100-150

I have a lightning and it is just a novelty. The blade is so flimsy in the track, and the locking mechanism won't always lock open.

If you just want a neat toy, go for it. If you actually want a knife, invest in a better otf
>>
>>30404261

is it strong enough to stab a guy? I'm not looking to hammer it through wood, split logs or pry open car doors.

I just want an affordable OTF that I can cut basic shit with, and slam into some assholes throat if I can't get to my gun.
>>
>>30404766
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UHrdlUEhk7I

Probably ? He hits it pretty hard for a while before the lock fails.

Hit something nice and fleshy and I don't think the lock would fail, hit any bone with some force though and you stand a chance of losing your knife.

I have a carbon fiber one and it's actually one of the knives I carry most. Lots of cutting edge in a very sleek and light package. Apparently early ones had a problem with the flipper being too small but they fixed that because mine flips like a mother fucker.
It does have two flaws, though. The pocket clip is kinda flimsy. And on mine, the blade actually rubs on the liner the tiniest bit. It's centered and functions perfectly fine, none the less.
I'm looking into buying the titanium version as well, which looks like it has a better clip for some reason.

If what you were looking for was a shank you should've said so in the first post. There are better knives for that.

Go here: http://www.knifeup.com/knife-laws/

Post your state so people can make sure their recommendations suit state law. Be aware that your city or school may have extra laws, but the authorities generally don't care about those unless you're doing something stupid.

See if your school has any form of self defense classes. Nobody can teach you jack shit on the internet, you need exercise and muscle memory.
>>
>>30410367
State is Virginia

Tl;dr seen site before basically all knives are legal, just some not legal concealed. No limits on blade length or anything.

City doesn’t have any specific laws that I can find.

School is stupid and bans everything, the only thing they allow is pepper spray, not even a stun gun or brass knuckles. You aren't allowed to keep a knife in your dorm even if you need it for a class. Regardless I'd rather not get raped/killed than avoid pissing off school. I do know plenty of people who break these rules on a daily basis though.

Luckily commute isn't on campus except for the last few minutes though.
>>
>>30410442
>I do know plenty of people who break these rules on a daily basis though.

Like I said, the authorities don't really care unless they catch you doing something stupid. If you're minding your own business then nobody gives a damn, my pocket knife was too large for the school I attended and is (was, rather) illegal in all of San Antonio but I never got shit about it.

>>
>>30410205
>>30410442
I'd recommend getting a good flashlight. They're legal everywhere. Unless you get the ultra tacticool skull crusher dna collector model, you shouldn't run into any trouble.

In addition to just being handy to have, a super bright light shining into an attacker's night-adjusted eyes will buy you a second or two.

Carry your self-defense implements somewhere easily accessible. If it's in your purse or your keychain and you have to fumble around to get it, you're going to have a bad time. It's preferable to just walk around with it already in your hand to save you that whole step. You obviously can't walk around with a knife in your hand, but it makes sense if you've got a flashlight at night.

>>30410367
>See if your school has any form of self defense classes. Nobody can teach you jack shit on the internet, you need exercise and muscle memory.
This is important. You're probably going to need a few PE classes anyways so you might as well kill to birds with one stone.

I'd recommend taking something like judo or boxing over a women's self-defense class, since many women's self-defense classes unfortunately lean towards feel-good self confidence stuff instead of seriously preparing you. At least with the other classes, you'll deal with some resistance.

At my school at least, you could call campus security and have them escort you to your car. Going from work to uni, that option won't be available, but if you're going to your bike or your dorm or whatever, it's good to have backup. See if your school lets you do that.

Yesterday I used a heavy duty scour pad + WD40 on a badly rusted garden tool and it worked really good, it had minimal scratching. I saw that the endura was made from VG10, but I think it's still softer than most tool steels. You can always try a kitchen sponge and work your way up. Soaking it in distilled vinegar works too but don't let it stay in too much.
>>
>>30409532

Why not just buy an opinel and remove the locking ring and attach a thumb stud ? Or a sodbuster or something. Useable length blade, good steel, and it's a slipjoint

And you could always trim the locking mechanism on the sanrenmu so it doesn't engage, but I feel like it wouldn't stay open well enough to be usable. Or you could modify the shape of the top of it so that it is just as long but a different shape that would cause it to fail with moderate pressure like a slipjoont.

I've allways liked the looks of the 940 but was really put off by the handle so I was really happy to see a G10 version.
I'm also waiting for some custom scales for my mini grip so we'll see if this 940-2 will take it's place in my pocket or not.
>>
>>30405880
i have the titanium one. it's an awesome knife, stays sharp, light as fuck, and opens so smooth.

BUT

the pocket clip is flimsy as fuck and i've cut myself twice because it opens in my pocket. the tolerances are so tight that the tip of the blade gets caught on stuff and opens.

i love the knife but i have to figure out a solution to it opening in my pocket before i carry it anymore.

For regular old folders, go with Knife King Baby Blue (pic related).

But if you want something truly beautiful yet functional and fun, look into high end balisongs. Benchmade 42A, FlyTanium 51's, HOM Specter EVO or Basilisk-R. If you really want you could get the "lol $600 supa custom made to order" GDOK EX10/EX11, but good luck with that. All great looking knives, some harder to find than others. You can always get the titanium ones anodized to your liking. Or get a Replicant and have someone mod it, the black handles are awesome. Yes yes, memesongs. They're fun to play with and some look real pretty

Honestly I find eBay the easiest way to find vintage out of production knives. Etsy has some too, but eBay turns up the most consistent results if you know the model and or name of the knife you want.

Speaking of which I need to track down another Walt co safe-t sheath knife. 1950's butterfly knife sold as a sportsmans knife.

It does look nice, and it would be perfectly functional for all cutting / slicing with the nice belly.
The tip angle on clip points/ curving knives is extremely brittle, and so it isn't good for heavy duty tasks, can roll if dropped on the point and will snap if attempting to pry (which isn't really achievable with a curved blade anyway)

But they are great for everything else, but if ever used as a stop-gap for survival, take great care.

It looks pretty as far as knives go.
>>
>>30425958
Yeah I wouldn't use it for prying or anything like that, I just have it for gutting and skinning. It kind of sucks when I have to use it for anything else because I don't want to dull it and I am really not sure how to sharpen.

I can always send it back to sharpen

Late reply but:

Yes he has used it extensively and he loves it. This is his upgrade from a mini-grip tanto. He loved the mini-grip but didn't like the tanto blade shape. He uses it on and off all day at work and he's very impressed with how well the edge is holding. Only thing that bugs him is that the finish on the anodized aluminum scales are scuffing, but with how he uses his knives it's inevitable.

Congrats on the recovery.

If you actually worked a job where you frequently opened things with a bladed object you would know. They're incredibly useful, moreso than most knives I'd say. The blades are disposable and super fucking cheap so once it gets dull on both ends you throw away the blade and replace it. Plus the short blade length means you can drag it across the cutting surface without fear of damaging whatever is inside what you're cutting, which you couldn't do with a long ass knife. I like cool knives too but face it, you only use yours to open hot pockets and trim your fingernails, you could probably get by just as fine with a blade 2" shorter than what you have. By insulting the box cutter you reveal your inexperience.

There is hardly any such thing as a "tacticool" box cutter, most of them are made far bigger than necessary but I believe that's largely so that uncoordinated people don't slip on their grip and cut themselves and cause a workers comp/lawsuit/OSHA headache for the company that provided the box cutter that the employee was using.

I carry pic related when I'm not working. At work I just use the box cutters they provide which are usually the ones with the blade that slides out the front.

>>30427031

I had one, think I got it for $22 on Amazon. Came very sharp like most of what CS makes. Used it as a work knife cutting everything from rope to drywall (which dulls blades fast), still kept a good usable edge throughout abuse.

I did end up chipping the very tip, closest to the edge of the blade (the thinnest point) but was able to use a whetstone to get it back to something that I thought was acceptable.

It is good for the price and was perfect for the size regulations I had working on a military base. I did end up not using it anymore and ended up replacing it with a fold-able, replaceable blade box cutter.

I'm a huge fan of the newer CS Finn Wolf. One of my favorite knives that I carry with me all the time.

WHEN WILL THEY LEARN

That's all it is. They're pissed because people can afford to pay 250$ for a knife and they can't. Or, they could, but then they couldn't afford the rent on their section 8.

Wow good job! You get a sticker! I'm gonna print your post out and stick it on the fridge I'm so proud of you.

Think to yourself, how often do you actually use your expensive knife? You can lie to me, but in your heart you know that you had to lie because the honest answer would have embarassed you.

My collection of Case folders alone is $1000+. However I do not use them for work because they are not as optimal as a simple box cutter.

Have fun with your money spending, dick measuring contest though

How can you even post here with all those dicks you've got shoved in yourself?

Nigga, do you even read? I never said shit about the knives I own/use and my point just went way over your head. I can reiterate if you would like: people use tools outside of their occupation. There, it's as simple as that. You claimed that if you don't use tools in your daily profession, then you don't have the right(lel) to critique said tools. You're just stumbling all over yourself now.

I'm in bed posting off my phone and I'm not about to get out to take a picture to prove the length of my dick on 4chan. The bulk of the collection is almost all of the limited edition Christmas trappers they sell every year, which is what I'll post a pic of. It's in a display case. Im not taking the rest out of the boxes for your sake.

Check the thread tomorrow morning and you'll see.

This one actually fits the bill of tacticool, especially if that actually is a glass breaker I see on the end. Doesn't matter, I stand behind everything I've said.
