Interested in getting into the body armor game before Congress gets a hair up their ass to ban it. Not interested in AR500, but what's the best stuff I can get for ceramics (or other strong lightweight plates)? What about the best ceramics on a budget?

How about the vests? Are plate carriers the way to go? Who's recommended for those?

>also, /bag/

Check out these awesome ceramic targets I made anon. It's a complete coincidence that they fit into this handy dandy plate carrier. Great for taking them to the range! Be sure to check out our solvent traps too. Bye bye now. See ya at the next gunshow!

Would be nice but ATF/DHS would still happily roll those folks up and charge them with aiding and abetting terrorism.

Even the cheapest plates are around $159 each. So youre at around $318ish for a pair before shipping. So that leaves you $282 for a carrier.

So look at the mayflower APC, shellback tactical banshee, Paraclete SOHPC and maybe a ferro concepts slickster

What's the actual difference between that and ESAPI? I didn't think you could even find XSAPI for sale?

Why not? I'm also trying to get some body armor sometime soon, and I wasn't aware there was anything wrong with AR500. Is it shitty as fuck or something?
>>
>>30400014
I can up my budget if those aren't great options for carriers, but thank you.

XSAPI does better against modern AP threats

You can find ones that fell off a truck around military bases

Those are great carriers and work within your price range. Just dont cheap out on the carrier so you can work pouches into your budget.

This is probably not at all what you're looking for, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Sounds like a controlled item... which means none of my non-POG buddies would be up for that shit.

Explain please?

A carrier is the second most important part of an armor setup.

Plates > Carrier > Pouches > Patches

I got that, I meant the pouches part. Can't you just take some sturdy fabric and spend a few minutes with a sewing machine for those?

What is the best modern plate armor? Lightweight but still good enough to stop 5.56 and 7.62, maybe even higher (if possible). Also is it available in arm and leg sections? Also what is best for head protection?

I want to warn everyone against the Banshee and anything by Ferro Concepts. The quality of the Banshee has went down in recent years, likely as a result of its surging popularity and trying to meet the consequent increase in demand. Ferro Concepts products are better, but their durability is lacking compared to Mayflower, LBT and Crye products.

That shit was $200 on Ebay. I got the same one - great deal.
>>
>>30400722

Apparently it annoys him when the PC list is posted.
>>
>>30400089
>hatchet

seriously?
>>
>>30400764

Purchasing a new one is not $200 however. A one time deal of $200 is not the norm and not what the list was intended to show. And I saw those on ebay, but mine was actually free, if you wanna get technical. That said, I wouldn't list it as "LBT 6094 ~ $FREE!!!"
>>
>>30400812
But yes! $200 was an incredible deal! Good job!
>>
>>30400778

Stays in the car for busting windows and such. Not carried on my person and certainly not for the purpose of tomahawking anyone.
>>
>>30400089
FYI Mayflower has been fully purchased by Velocity Systems. Not sure if they'll keep the brand name or not but they are still producing all their products.
>>
>>30400089
Is that in order or just good carriers?
>>
>>30401626
Just good carriers.
>>
>>30399914
Why armorwear when bulletproofme is $10 cheaper for each 10x12?
>>
>>30400764
What have you done with yours, Anon?

Mine's sitting on my couch until I buy some plates.

I also thought it was going to have more special features due to the seller calling it a U.S. marshal custom.

I really like it, though.
>>
>>30400147
For the price of labor and effort and materials

should just get a PC and plates tbqhfam
>>
is there a better budget option than this?
https://armour-wear.com/shop/all/carriers/tpg-armour-wear-package/

It seems like a pretty decent set for twofiddy dollars, and has everything a layman would need in a PC+plate set. I'm poor as fuck so I haven't found too many better options than this at this price.

Are there any sub 250 options that can beat this and have a reasonable expectation of quality or no?

Is it also possible to throw a FLC on top of this like an IOTV, because that shit worked in the army for what I needed it to.
>>
>>30404482
>is there a better budget option than this?
Yes. Save more money, youre buying body armor not pens.
>FLC ontop of carrier
Why?
>>
>>30404566
Cause I still have my TA 50 and I'm cheap as fuck. Plus I'm weirdly attached to it, since it's practically got 0 original parts left. I modified that thing to fuckall and back
>>
>>30404482
Now, I've never worn hard plates except with an Interceptor vest while in the AF, but those straps in the cheaper option look like they'd get mighty uncomfortable mighty quickly.
>>
>>30404566
>>30404599
Pay in cash or pay in sweat and fatigue when you have to haul around heavier plates.
>>
>>30404736
Then what is the best budget option? I suppose its worth mentioning weight isn't the end of the world for me, since I know I'm in shape to ruck these fucks around.
>>
Since it's not that AR500 junk, can I ask what /k/ thinks about polyethylene plates? They look like a cheap and very lightweight option, is there some hidden downside?
>>
>>30404870
Most of them are thick as fuck and also wont stop IV threats
>>
>>30404955
How bad is being thick?
>>
>>30405002
Its annoying because you feel like a goddamn polar bear and bump into shit. Also you cant get low to the ground
>>
>>30400303
Excuse me for not wanting my limbs intact, I value those as much as my vital organs.

Also, what kind of alternative sports require bulletproof armor?

Nobody answered the first question though... What's the best modern plate armor that can stop anything up to 7.62 or higher and still be fairly unobtrusive?
>>
>>30406764
My buddy wore his ceramic plates when we went paintballing once.

It was hilarious, actually because paintballs were fucking bouncing off of him for some fucking reason.

Which resulted in me dumping dozens of paintballs into the fucker whenever we were on opposite teams, you had to be sure. He actually tried to crawl through some bushes at one point and I lit him up like a Christmas tree. Bruises all up his arms, neck, and legs because I just fucking hosed the fucker from about 5 feet away.

I can understand protective padding for airsoft and paintball, but full on armor plates? Lolno. Cool story bro

Still waiting on an answer though.
