Women are physically inferior to men. Less endurance, bone density, musculature, overall weight, etc.
On top of that having women compromises the morale of the unit. Men are just biologically wired to protect the women. So when it comes down to the wire and it's either the success of the mission or protecting random vagina owning recruit, most soldiers will protect the girl. Additionally it will create friction, everyone in the unit trying to compete over a few women.
So adding women to combat roles would make units just less efficient overall. Trying to get a unit of men to fight as one is hard enough without everyone fawning over the one or two women.

Well, those are two contradictory goals. The higher your standards are, the fewer will qualify. I mean saying you want to achieve both sounds good, but it doesn't really mean anything.
