How would modern tankette fare in modern combat?
Italian ones sucked in ww2, are modern german ones any better?
>>
A tankette with a TOW could take out an MBT.
>>
Krauts are so cucked they put Arabic on their flag.
>>
>>30375406
Assuming they had good concealment and got the first shot, *anything* with a TOW could take out an MBT. Good luck surviving an artillery barrage, CAS strike, or the MBT's coax, though.
>>
Really just like a buggy to haul around an ATGM or autocannon. They have tracks for some limited all-terrain ability and some thin armor to protect against shrapnel and some small arms.

They are not intended to actually work like a WW2 tankette, just think of them as a crew served weapon that can move itself.
>>
>>30375440
The point of tankettes like the Wiesel is to have good concealment and get the first shot

They will do better then a car since they can take limited return fire in the form of fullpower rifle rounds on its frontal arch. The sides gets tricky since it seems it is rated for 5.56 rounds. Also mortar shrapnel etc. Combine that with good FCS and more then it should do fine if you use it as a tankette and not a T-55 to bumrush an ATGM.

If youre engaging armor within 1500 meters with a tow, youre a bad mother fucker.

>>
>>30376141

I feel like the loss of mobility after firing a TOW at that range would kinda fuck the tankette, can you confirm?
>>
>>30375403

I think it would be pretty cool if middle school-high school aged kids were taught to operate tankettes in a reserve/home defense capacity. Or crew served weaponry in general.
>>
>>30376721
Not really. 2b's are effective out to 4km and thats about 20 seconds of flight time give or take. Ive been out for a few years so forgive me for not remembering exact numbers. ATGM carriers are modern tank destroyers. Shoot and scoot is the name of the game unless its holding a defensive posture or a support by fire operation. Fire, guide missile to target for a few seconds, upon impact assess effect on target for reload and follow up or GTFO depending on what kind of shenanigans youre up to. Not sure i exactly understand your question so hope i answered it.
>>

Yeah it's late, sorry I formatted my question weird, but you answered what I wanted to know. Thank you.

in WW2 they were good at 'police'-useage and partisan warfare

I have to drive a Wiesel next year. Heard they have very bad protection.

good for sweeping against infantry in the open. Possibly good for digging infantry out of cover. Definitely good for scouting and harassing. If they can get the drop on a tank they could kill it.

Also cheaper than a tank, more fuel efficient too.
>>
>>30376769
20 seconds seems like a lethal amount of time being fixed in place.

Don't modern tanks immediately spot the launch & slew their turret towards you?

Those are the only ones they designed, but they must've helped build other tanks. I find it very hard to believe their factories wouldn't have been retooled to build tanks regardless of whose design they were.

Looks like it says "Alman", probably read as "Aliman" from Alamannia.

From wiki:

>The names for Germany in modern Arabic (ألمانيا), Catalan (Alemanya), Welsh (Yr Almaen), Cornish (Almayn), French (Allemagne), Persian (Alman), Portuguese (Alemanha), Spanish (Alemania), and Turkish (Almanya) all derive from Alamannia.
>>
>>30375591
Highly mobile direct fire support, and some ability combat tanks from concealment. As long as the idiots in charge don't decide to use them as assault vehicles, seems great.
>>
>>30380218
It's not read Aliman, it's read as it's written.
>>
>>30381422
Sorry, "said".

There were a lot of filler vowel sounds due to the consonant to consonant in Urdu which was my point of reference for the alphabet.
>>
>>30381504
dude i don't understand a single word besides Urdu and alphabet, all i know is that Arabs say "Alman" and not "Aliman", i grew up in Germany, surrounded by Arabs, Turks, Kurds and Desis.

To make this post a little bit more /k/ related and on topic, i think OP's question is retarded. Of course the Wiesel is way better than the Italian tankettes in WWII, they're used for whole different purposses.

>Don't modern tanks immediately spot the launch & slew their turret towards you?

Many of em, yes.

>20 seconds seems like a lethal amount of time being fixed in place.

No, not really. Anything under 5 minutes is pretty good by government standards.

>The point of tankettes like the Wiesel is to have good concealment and get the first shot

No, it's to have a tiny air-transportable method of moving a TOW launcher around very quickly.

TOW's are big and heavy, if you want to carry the launcher and its ammo very quickly over a long distance, you need a vehicle of some kind. Most vehicles are bigger than a wiesel and cannot transported as easily.
>>
>>30378698
>20 seconds seems like a lethal amount of time being fixed in place.

Not really, especially if you see the other guy first and you are very far away.

>Don't modern tanks immediately spot the launch & slew their turret towards you?

No, there are some systems that can detect a laser range finder and point the turret at the source, but these are nowhere near ubiquitous yet.

It's also not just a matter of "point the turret at the launcher and the launcher dies", there are plenty of potential complications that could become involved here. The battlefield is a messy place.

>What would you say is the effective range?

>>30384687
As stated I said out to 4km. As long as the wire is long enough it's gtg and again this is off the top of my head since its been a minute. I want to say it's either 3700m, 4km, or 4300m but regardless it's far as fuck.

Yes it will destroy a tank. The 2b has direct attack or top down attack capability which you can switch back and forth between using the ITAS controls (basically two joysticks with buttons and FOV toggle thingies used to navigate the menus in the optic's screen). Lemme see if I still have a pic that i saved on this phone and ill post it.

For shooting targets behind a berm or MBT's, top down is the way to go. A nice tandem HEAT through the top of an MBT turret virtually promises penetration. From all the vids ive seen of syrian rebels using tows, ive never seen what looks like a 2b based on the behavior of the missile...so theyre probably using 2a's (direct attack only) or older which are still plenty capable.
>>

Nope sorry dont have any of my old photos since i switched mobile carriers....ive posted it once or twice before on here so maybe some anon will have it.

TOW-2A has been confirmed in Syrian jihadi hands. IIRC the data on the tubes and packing materials points to the confirmed 2As coming from Saudi arsenals. And at the same time, Saudi is buying a shitload more TOWs to replenish their stocks.

>>
>>30385134
Not my pic but thats the day sight in a nut shell. Pic i had was of the night sight which looks very similar to the "IRNV" sight in Bf3/4. I had a habbit of "cheating" all the time and using the night sight regardless of lighting conditions. That optic is so fucking unfair. Retardedly high zoom, completely adjustable brightness/contrast/focus, bracket targeting, insanely good night sight that can be used day or night, excellent laser range finder, excellent battlefield integration with a BFT due to being able to get a 10 digit grid on whatever you lase....god i miss playing around with that thing.

...uh. it kills MBT's, AFV's, bunkers, light skin vehicles, helicopters....whatever you point it at dies generally. Depends largely on the munition you use as well. Most commonly used are "bunker buster" and 2b.
>>
>>30385249
Not mine but thats the night sight. Things dope as fuhhh. Mine was from the firing line on a .50 range at night senpai fire. Bunch of .50's with lightsabers sticking out of the receiver. If someone saved it id be eternally grateful to get it back since idk if i ever backed it up from my old phone that i took it on :(
