>>

I'm thinking about trying it. It makes sense to be strong enough to support it.
>>
Why not bench press?

That...that doesn't really help. The point of doing exercises with it on it to be able to support the weight of it on your body.
Doing the bench press with a plate carrier on doesn't really make it more difficult, as it your arms and pectorals that are handling the weight of the bar only. The carrier doesn't really factor into the equation, it'd probably just constrict movement a little.
>>
>>30374430
It's dumb because the plates are going to reduce your ROM and make the exercise easier so it'll be kind of a wash even with the weight. Just get a fucking bench or do floor press with some weights.
>>
>>30374551
high quality bait
>>
>>30374551
No, the point is take your fucking plate carrier off and lift heavier weights to get stronk, this "functional fitness" meme needs to die. You wouldn't substitute plate carrier squats for barbell squats, would you? (please say no because if the answer's yes you're retarded)

He didn't mean bench with the plate carrier on, just to bench in general. He's asking what's the point of doing body weight exercises like push ups with a plate carrier adding a few pounds when you can just go and bench and get a much better workout to build strength.
>>
>>30374430
>push-ups in your plate carrier
desu senpai I need to just start doing pushups in general, with my fat ass. I have been doing cardio and changing my eating habits and lifestyle habits that were unhealthy.

why get marginal half ass results when you can get targeted, meaningful results? Bench press works the same muscles as doing a push up (for the most part). Lifting your maximum lifting weight, vs 1/2 - 3/4 your body weight.... why would you opt out of benchpress? Your muscles don't care, they need the maximum workout they can get and PC Pushups aren't it. If you're doing generaly cross fit sure, but you're still cheating yourself.
>>
>>30374579
No, I just don't have the equipment to bench.
>>
>>30374634
Oh...I guess it's to get used to moving around in your plate carrier and doing physical shit all day.
But yeah, adding on a few pounds just sounds like a good way to fuck up your workout.
Poe's Law and whatever. I'm a fucking retard.
>>
>>30374648
I agree with you, it'll never be as good as targeted exercise like most weight training.
I was just trying to explain the logic of somebody who thinks it's a good idea.
>>
>>30374669
Get some cheap ass weights or something. You don't need a real bench, you can do floor press or whatever. Or get a gym membership.
>>
>>30374669
Go fuck up an old car or something.
Free workout equipment.
>>
>>30374683
Yeah it does make sense to be doing high movement exercises in a plate carrier to an extent. Running, climbing, pull ups, I would think stuff like that.
>>
Strength endurance>absolute strength when it comes to combat training

Core stability/lowerback are more important than powerlifting max rep bs
>>
>>30374633
>she

bad news for you , son...
>>
>>30374782
>implying these things are mutually exclusive
Having raw muscular strength is going to give you more in reserve and is going to carry over to various tasks like rucking, mechanical breaching, and fighting. So it's not unreasonable to lift lower rep ranges most of the time and hit up the high rep strength endurance stuff a couple times a week.
>>
>>30374648
>Bench
>Biceps
>Pectorals
>Bit of triceps

>Pushups
>Biceps
>Bit of triceps
>Chest
>Core
>Back

A push up is a more fluid exercise that works more. Throw on a loaded vest and crank out 20 push ups and don't tell me you won't be feeling it.

Yeah you may be able to bench 200, but again, you work ALL your core upper strength muscles as well as the secondary muscles not typically exercised when you do a focused lift.

It also makes for better endurance training by exercising with the gear you plan on wearing.

If you want to get gearfit, start doing push ups, pull ups, squats and jogging wearing your gear. For core, go for straight P90X.

You won't get your biceps as strong than if you were to do bench, but the over all strength net gain is more worth it in the long run.
>>
>>30374998
Yeah, tell me how many SOF guys do all their workouts in kit. Maybe you do one or two a week geared up for novelty but wearing that stuff is going to really limit exercise options and you're going to miss out on maximal strength.
>>
>>30375018
As opposed to straight muscle strength?

Far as I know, most if not all Seals, PR and Rangers do a mix of gear body weight and targeted lifts that more focus on the core muscles by doing a mix of bench, squads, dead lifts, pull ups and weighted planks.

The muscle endurance you get from doing body weight lifts is essential to not tiring out when you're wearing gear for long periods of time. In shit like 81b, where you wear your gear every day for 6 months on deployment, you get used to it but never all that comfortable and since infantry is pretty much trucked almost everywhere they never get the endurance that special snowflakes develop.

Ultimately, you get more from training your body to handle the added weight with the constant stress than just taking repeated short stints of high stress activity.
>>
>>30375084
>doing a mix of bench, squads, dead lifts, pull ups and weighted planks.
This is straight muscle strength though. That's like so-called powerlifter shit. And I'm okay with this.

Again workouts in kit have a point of diminishing returns. I would be happy to do them once or twice a week but I definitely don't think it's necessary if you can work the same muscles with comparable levels of resistance in similar rep ranges. For example I don't really think pull-ups in a 20lb vest is that different from pull-ups with 20lbs on a chain. Or I don't think push ups with a weight vest is meaningfully different from light weight high rep bench pressing. Or lunging with a vest on vs lunging with dumbbells in hand.

You should look at the correlation between women's body fat and fertility. Or intense exercise and fertility. Turns out, if their body fat drops below a certain percentage they stop ovulating. If they do a lot of intensive training, e.g., marathon runners, they stop ovulating.

If you're gonna do SJW bullshit, at least try to keep up with the science. Or are you one of those gender studies majors who didn't take a STEM degree because misogyny?

Are you mildly retarded? Push-ups build an entirely different kind of muscular endurance for a task that's more commonly performed. Constantly bench pressing shit tons throws huge bulky muscle onto your frame with the same results as a few hundred push-ups (which are also partially a cardio exercise if you do them properly). Unless you're a bodybuilder, bench pressing only serves to get your max bench weight higher.
>>
>>30386029
Except your max bench weight obviously transfers to the amount of force you can exert with your pecs and triceps, which translates to some obvious uses (hitting people, breaching structures, moving heavy objects). Furthermore there are some studies that contend that maximal strength (eg: bench 5rm) is strongly correlated with muscular endurance with similar exercises (eg: push ups).

Bench pressing will not "throw huge bulky muscle onto your frame." That is simply retarded and is an obvious indication you are DYEL tier shit. The fact of the matter is that all of the popular exercise programs used in SOF involve barbell lifts, including bench press. Gym Jones, Military Athlete, SOFLETE, etc.
>>
>>30386076
Really? You're telling me that benching and using black weight all day doesn't inflate your frame? Because you're wrong. Sticking to calisthenics and having the strength to perform a hundred plus push-ups is not generated by targeted exercises that prevent your body from building it's ability to coordinate muscular exertion.
>>
>>30386164
What the fuck is black weight? As for inflate your frame, you're retarded. Powerlifters make weight, which means they're looking for max strength within the boundaries of their weight class. That means actual weight efficiency. Look at Richard Hawthorne for an example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkRkPigvO9Y
Dude can do this while weighing 132 lbs. Guess what, he didn't balloon up to 250lbs just because he lifted heavy. Weight is related to diet.

>Sticking to calisthenics and having the strength to perform a hundred plus push-ups is not generated by targeted exercises that prevent your body from building it's ability to coordinate muscular exertion.
You obviously don't know shit. If you ask people like Stew Smith or Rob Shaul about preparing for a military selection program (the vast majority of which will want you to knock out 90+ push ups in 2 min) they will all tell you to use weights initially to build max strength and mix in bodyweight calisthenics for movement familiarity as the selection approaches.
>>

being able to bench 3 pl8, squat 4pl8, and run is not that fucking complicated. There are enough guys that can hit the aforementioned lifts and run 12 min 2 milers.
