well unless you have combat experience and/or know people, I wouldn't count on signing immediately up with larger firms. That being said I'm sure there's people who would hire anyone with some relevant military training and a good record, work that way a little bit and get experience there and then larger firms are much more available

It's not as cool and fun as you would imagine. Job could range from CPP in the Middle East, standing on a gate in PNG to guarding a farm or house on SA. Unless you have 4+ years in LE or a combat/medical speciality (infantry of some description generally/medic/paramedic) in the military you generally won't even get a look in. They days of 'has gun will travel is over', too many Cowboys caused shit and contracts got tight. There is a difference between 'operating' and actually being worth shit.

Actually not fully true. A buddy of mine spent 4 years as an Army 19k and made E-5 and now works for Acadami PMC in Iraq.
From what he told me was E-4 or above with deployment experience and an HD on your dd214 will get you in the door. You're more likely hired with tier 1 experience. Medics are in high demand.

learning skills and trades that help while deployed can be helpful if not more valuable then combat experience getting in to a pmc.
a combat medic with good experience can be more valuable then multiple t1 operators same can be said for other trades and intel specialists

Well I don't know how things work in the U.S. but over here it's pretty easy to get a job as a PMC through the local firms, although in reality it's more of a Security Guard job. The only thing that makes you different from the Security Guard is the Rifle, so if you don't mind guarding things/stuff go for it.
