what the fuck are they thinking? At least it is brass cased so I can pick up the brass and reload if anyone is actually dumb enough to buy it...
>>
>>30373887
Dumbasses will think there barrel will never shoot out
>>
>>30373887
Perhaps we are still paying the new tooling tax. Here is hoping the price drops once it is pure profit for Federal.
>>
Seems like are trying to market it as convenient plinking ammo, not cheap ammo

>12% less friction
That's kinda cool, they could actually get more velocity for the max pressure by doing that.

They could also use the plastic jacket for putting different bullets underneath. Suppose they wanted to make fragmenting .5.56. Most fragmenting 5.56 has to have the jacket separate from the copper core. With the plastic jacket they can tune the core for terminal effect and just have the jacket for ballistics.

Do they paralyze you?

I imagine the polymer doesn't play well with the barrel at 3000fps.
>>
>>30373887
Soooo powdercoat?
>>
>>30373887

does it reduce the amount of lead that is released into the air? I read it reduces copper fouling and has less friction, but I'm curious as to any other reason you'd roll with it.

coated bullets have been popular for a while in USPSA use since they're a happy medium between soft cast and hard cast, don't have as much lead fouling, no smoke, cheaper than plated and jacketed, and easier on your barrel too.
>>
>>30373887
Could it be more expensive because it's a new method that they're just setting up the manufacturing process for? Could it be cheaper from major manufacturers in the future?
>>
>>30374447
In pistols sure, but he was talking about for rifle calibers.
>>
>>30373923
Well, lead cast bullets are way way easier on your barrel than a typical copper jacketed bullet. powder coated bullets are very slick and have even less bore friction. Ive done some comparisons over a chronograph using my 357 mag loads. I used 158gr lswc and 158gr xtp's with a charge of 15.8gr W296. From both a 6" revolver and a 16" levergun, the coated cast bullets were a consistent 100fps faster than the jacketed xtp's and the plain standard lubed cast lead were 75fps faster than the xtp's.

Kinda got off topic, but my point is that cast and coated bullets are in fact way easier on the barrel.

>>30374292
I cast and powdercoat my own for reloading. I see a 6-7% increase in velocity over jacketed bullets of the same weight.

I like to call it a red rocket.
>>30374447
The problem is that its more expensive than plated right now, though I am curious as to where you get the 'less smoke' claim fro. Do you mean in comparison to cast?

Its plastic it should be cheaper than copper.

But it does help with barrel wear if you shoot alot.

You can buy the bullets or make it yourself. It started in the reloading community. the ammo makers are just catching up.

Once it becomes not a novelty and a bunch of manufacturers start up. It will bring down the price to below copper coated rounds probably(copper aint cheap.)

In 20 years we might all be shooting it for less that FMJ.
>>
>>30374519

yeah since you don't have lube to burn up.
>>
>>30374322
people report 2600-2700fps as their velocity limit with a hard cast coated bullet. Using standard ~11bhn wheel weight alloy, I have no issue pushing loads of 300blk and 357 mag 2100 fps. 440gr cast coated 500 mag bullets up to 1600fps no issue.
>>
>>30374500
>6-7% increase in velocity over jacketed bullet
What about cast lead? Would be neat to cast some slightly faster bullets to go with my .38 Iver Johnson.
>>
>>30374503
Kek.
>>
>>30373923
But do you save money just shooting FMJ and replacing the barrel when it is time?
>>
>>30374503
Lol happy to see someone liked my pic enough to save it and use it over a year later. Reminds me, I need to load up some 300blk, im down to only 1,000 rd of fmj supers and only 30 rounds of those 230gr coated lead subs pictured here.
>>
>>30374587

depends on the barrel, doesn't it.
>>
>>30374555
Traditionally lubed cast lead bullets are still faster than a fmj with the same powder charge but a powder coated bullet is even a little faster. They are SLICK! if you have a handfull of just the bullets, they roll around like ball bearings in your hand.
>>
>>30373887
So we'z just painting it red, den? I don't see how'z this be anything new. Everywun knowz painting it red makes it go fastur.
>>
>>30374656
TFW painting them red literally does make them go faster.

Shit fuck! So the target bleeds out faster??? Damn ruger you scary.

this is actually half decent ammo.

wouldnt CARRY it over a much more deadly JHP but it's a good concept. just needs to be massively cheaper to represent the fact that it's made of fucking plastic
>>
>>30374933
Apparently it's a lead core? Seems a bit light at 80 grains to me but it looks like it could do the trick. So far I have only killed paper with it so idk.
>>
>>30375012
Also I must add, it is a 9mm +p that kicks less than crap fmj target rounds
>>
>>30373887
The bullets are coated with teflon so they pass through the fibers of bullet proof vests and go clean out the other side.
Those are cop killer bullets.
>>
>>30374407
Nontoxic primer with full encapsulation means the shooting is lead-free at the firing line.
>>
If you coat bullets in Teflon, they gain armor piercing properties. Or so I hear.
>>
>>30374695
Waaagh!
>>
>>30373887
Wake me when they sell revolver calibers.

I'd definately get them in .45 LC

Hey, do you tgink there is any benefit in polymer coating 22lr bullets?

I usually shoot copper plated HP out of my 10/22, and while I dought I'll shoot out the barrel any time soon, the red polymer will help cut down on lead build up?
>>
>>30374492
Aw so no point in coated .223 or 308?
>>
>>30375012
Higher velocity than standard defensive rounds, doesn't get clogged up by clothes, stopped by light barriers, and recoils as much as a 32 acp
>>
>>30374830
I don't understand how rotation is supposed to help anything. If the bullet had sharp edges or fragments then it could be useful, the stretch of the temporary cavity will rip the small cuts. But it's a smooth bullet, no cutting, so the temporary cavity will just stretch and return
>>
>>30376296
You kidding, you coated a .223 in plastic and the bullet would exit the barrel so fast it would tear though solid concrete, and ten children before killing a minority band member going to his bus full of nuns.
