Sup /k/. I live in Alabama where we can carry a 100-round drum if we want to. Since I have the right/luxury of being able to have the highest capacity mags as I can find, I was curious as to how that would effect my choice of caliber if I was actually limited to 10 round mags.

Anybody else feel the same? What do you guys who have these restrictions prefer to carry?

Honestly if I could only carry 10rd mags I wouldn't use 9mm at all. I'd only carry 10mm and .45 in my funs of choice.
>>
>Honestly if I could only carry 10rd mags I wouldn't use 9mm at all. I'd only carry 10mm and .45 in my funs of choice.

why?

I'd still use 9mm because all the other benefits of 9mm would still exist.

Where at in Bama, bro?
>>
>>30371132
no because my carry gun is a 7+1 (9 round extended in the mail) in 9mm.

And i dont give a fuck of the magazine size of my range toys.

>Since I have the right/luxury of being able to have the highest capacity mags as I can find
Get luxury out of there, this is a right. Period.
>>
>>30371224
What other benefits?
>>
10mm auto. Hand loaded extra spicy.
>>
>>30371580
Let me go ahead and walk into a gun store and tell them it's my right to have all their fancy and expensive drum mags and walk out the door with them.

This shit costs money. Being able to blow money on guns is a luxury.

.40

Being in Canada, I'll have to worry about that issue, when I'll actually get around to choosing what I really want.

However, this is only the restriction on pistol caliber rifles. Rifles are restricted to 5 rounds, and pistols are additionally harder to get a permit for.

Anyway, I think that makes my main options 10mm and .45 super, especially the later, if it's particularly good in longer barrels.
>>
>>30371803
Why use a cucked caliber when you can use the real deal?

dude all these pistol calibers are essentially the same. shot placement is king. everything else is angels dancing on the head of a pin.

picture unrelated to post content.
>>
>>30372017
Yeah but do you know what neither 9mm nor .45ACP can do?

Win caliber wars.

On /k/.

Which, when you get right down to it, is what really matters in the end.
>>
>>30371224
What benefits are those?
>>
>>30371961
I like guns that can actually be concealed carried without Walmart Jeans.
>>
>>30371132
Righto friendo
NYer here. I carry either a 1911 (8+1 mag) or a G27 (9+1)

Caliber wars really don't exist here unless you carry a compact. If you carry full size I don't see why you wouldn't carry a .45
>>
>>30371961
Because he enjoys shooting it.

I would still get 9mm because I can easily smuggle non-neutered mags from elsewhere. It's even easier if you are America. In fact, I'm sitting on several 17 rounders right now. 9mm is also still cheaper and a greater variety exists.
>>
>>30371132
5.7x28mm.

Ultra light recoil.
Low weight.
High accuracy.
Wounding potential of 9mm
Penetrates IIIa armor.
Flat shooting.

Why are you even worried about it.
In canada, isn't it illegal to use deadly force to defend yourself even when you are threatened with deadly force?

256 here
>>
>>30372163
No, it's not. You can't even CC here though so the debate over handgun calibres for anything other than home defense is irrelevant.

live in ten round state go with 45 ACP because I can play around with it, have USP 45 and RIA 1911, will buy 9mm when move out have appropriate ammo to use, figure might as well suffer
>>
>>30372163
Canada: Hundreds of people charged for defending themselves, 0 convicted. The crown prosecutors can eat dick but at least our judges and juries tend to be solid.
>>
>>30372182
If you're Canadian then perhaps you know more about it than me. But I remember reading stories of home invaders that were met with force by homeowners, and the criminal suing and winning for bodily damages.

>>
>>30371132

From NY...10rd limit. 9mm is still an ok choice because it allows you to carry really small guns like the Glock 43.

As far as a medium size gun? Yea... .45 or .40 is the only choice if you're comfortable with the recoil.

unfortunately many states that restrict mag capacity have a full copy of the 1994 AWB, which also prohibits pistols that weight over 50oz. There is one company that's supposed to release a lightweight Desert Eagle but they haven't yet
>>
>>30371132
10mm, although if you don't mind hand loading, there's also .40 Super. They cut down .45 WinMag to 10mm length and necked it down to 10mm.

>There is one company that's supposed to release a lightweight Desert Eagle but they haven't yet

yeah, magnum research, the people who make the desert eagle. the L5 in .357, and the L6 in .50AE pictured, weigh under 4lbs.
>>
>>30373012
I thought some other company was doing it. Looks like they did release it, nice. The .357 version is just light enough to get under the 50oz limit for those states.
>>
>>30373739
>light enough to get under the 50oz limit for those states.
Do some states have a max limit for how much a handgun can weigh? I've never heard that before.
>>
>>30373793
i think its to stop AR pistols mainly
>>
>>30373793
New York does, can't find the full text for any other state
>>
>>30373012
dont deagles already fall apart from usage as is and now they want to reduce the density of the frame even more?

sounds like a great idea..?
>>
I'm paranoid about California prosecutors charging one based on the number of shots. Two shots? Sounds reasonable. Four shots? CRAZY EXCESSIVE.

I don't know if there is any evidence to back up those fears. Does anyone know?
>>
>>30375075
Well, if that's the case, then it seems it would be compelling to make it count and use some serious, serious rounds.

Unless there's something else to be paranoid of there, if you figure you'd also get in shit just for using something in the dot-forties, except of course .40 short and weak.

So, I guess that would make an optimally tantalizing round, let's say, 9mm dillon? Unless you're worried that you'd be seen as a bad guy for using a scarily loud round. So then, maybe you'd want to use a gun with a large barrel, but maybe that too could get you seen as a mass-destructive psycho?
>>
>>30372388
9mm also works well for the wife to use
>>
>>30372140
That sounds totally the opposite of a round tailor made for 10 round mags.

Unless... you wanted something ultra thin,
>>
>>30371132
7.62x25
>>
>>30372163
Yeah, but you'd still get in shit if they caught you at the range with large mags.
>>30372182
That's why I mentioned pistol caliber carbines. It is a weird situation, with how it's okay to grab a 10 round .40 mag and put 13 9mm rounds in it.
>>
>>30371132
Use 9mm in .40 cal mags for 12+1
>>
>>30371598
cheaper, more compact firearm, slightly less recoil, receiving end won't tell the difference.
>>
>>30376926
Except hot 10mm can actually produce hydrostatic shock.
