Stgw 90 is only good for prone shooting. As a civilian rifle it's inferior to the AR15 due to price/quality, since for 3.5k you can buy an AR15 that outperforms the Stgw in every aspect.

I can answer that.

The English were generally very determined if a bit slow, the French I have seen were outstanding (plus, toting a remarkable "hotties" factor), the Germans looked solid and very good at what they do, maibly the ones coming from Universität des Bundeswehr. Probably the best I've seen were servicemen in the US Army: big motherfuckers, strong soldiers and with very solid bases. Other than that, the Italians have always been a sorry-ass display of inadequacy, especially on the organizational side of things.
we Swiss probably place around 2nd or 3rd place behind Americans and Germans/Brits when it comes to competence.

when it comes to ammunition and barrel quality, yes; the trigger, sights and ergonomics bring it down to slightly-below-550 levels. There is a reason why sports-shooting-outfitted 510 rule over any 550.
>>
>>30354293
Well it is. The ones given out since 2002 dont have the nice barrels anymore. Objectively they are worse. (the best barrels are now in tha hands of those who made the service with the 57 but ended up recieving the 90).

it's true that it is great for Shooting. But would you still choose the Stgw 57 if you would have to go on a real misson?
>>
>>30354645
Lots of "war journalists" in the Middle East carry a shortened version of the little bugger furnished with a collapsing stock and a red dot, rather than a 5.56 carbine.
The full size one is a battle rifle, outdated by its very concept. I am an infantryman, so a long and heavy weapon in a modern setting is not the best for my competence (that's why I chose an LMG specialisation - ahah), but for house clearing and long range combat shooting I would take a carbine version of a 510 over a 550. Ammo capacity is another issue altogether, but with the weight we spare from a 4.1kg rifle we can afford a few extra mags.

Over a full-size* 550. Should have made that clearer. The 553 is sweet as fuck and GP90 is very stable at long distances, even if it lacks some Oomph.

Im jealous of your army and policies. Why can't we be neutral either? Your army is there to defend switzerland. Not to police other states half way around the world. Isn't this what an army should be? Conscription and militias also, awesoe idea. Estonia has the right idea too. Man I love your airforce. You don't get bullied into the failed F35. You even vote about getting a NG gripen. I love it.

Also when I say we I don't mean the US.
>>
>>30354840
We voted against the Gripen (sadly). But a new plan acquisition gas begun. And we could finally still choose the Gripen NG as remplacement of the F/a-18 and the old F-5 Tiger in 4 or 5 years.

I probably stayed in the same bunker as you
I originally worked in Payerne but got sent to MEI because the other guy only spoke French, I at least spoke english and french
Worked exclusively on F/A18s
MEI was the best deployment because our detachment had a chef and that part of the country is amazingly beautiful and the beer there is good.
I discovered 4Chan because I was bored out of my scull waiting for those hornets to land
If you get a chance, go into hangar 3 (or 4 maybe) where they keep the F/A18s you'll see a picture that a comrade and I drew on the whiteboard by the PC. I'm the guy with the big smile and a South African flag above his head. Hope it didn't get erased.

I know but I don't understand why the swiss quality and knowledge should ceased if the only think that is german is the owners. SwissArms is completely based in Switzerland. Even the leaders of the company are still here.
Plus SwissArms products are still recognized as excellent. I personally didn't notice problems or low quality in the Stgw90 or the mags. They are just fucking amazing and accurate. I would have liked to test SIG's Stgw90 to compare.

Well the Panzer 68 affaire is to blame, the idiots in the VBS (then EMD) tried to cover up all the faults but of course they leaked to the press, like the Mirage-Affaire
So they didn't want to take the risk of yet another failure (even though the problems with the Panzer 68 were fixed in the later upgrades) and reduce some cost and simply bought Leos

Are older rifles, such as the K31, STG-57, etc. still kept in the Swss Army's inventory, or have they been completely retired from service?

Also, are Swiss Army Knives (like the victornox ones) actual swiss army issue things or is the whole S.A.K thing a marketing gimmick?

Very few are in storage. (Also with retirement the officers in charge associate it with the total annihilation of any part.)
The Soldatenmesser 08 is. The red ones I dont know if they were before.

Yes there is old weapons and ammo still kept in storage. I don't know how many.

>Also, are Swiss Army Knives (like the victornox ones) actual swiss army issue things or is the whole S.A.K thing a marketing gimmick?

Swiss Knifes are made by a private company: Victorinox. This company (and Wenger) is the official provider of knife for the Swiss Army (bayonets and soldats knifes).
This is the "swiss knife" for the soldiers. The former one were with a steel cover and those still before had wooden cover. The red ones are for the civilian market and of very good quality too.

I wish that was a bad joke
They stocked full on everything (including weapons) until the end of the cold war. They had them left wen they bought the Stgw 90. No Country could, or would pay for this guns chambered in gp11 and our traitor parlament singned a international contract which prevents the swiss armed forces to sell any weapons to the civilian marked. So they throwed truckloads of new, perfectly fine guns in a shreder
And today the guys from the sniper scools complain they would like to have .308 as dmrs
>>
>>30356792
I personally think that it is way too easy to have swiss citizenship.
The conditions should more like this:
-At least 15 years as permanent resident (with no foreign trip longer than 1 month).
-PERFECT knowledge of one national language and partially knowledge of a seconde national language .
-PERFECT knowledge of history and cultural legacy of Switzerland (it means a real test and not asking the name of 3 swiss mountain and if 4 cantons).
-PERFECT knowledge of political institutions.
-Good testimonial from 50 swiss citizen.
-Islam as religion is a NO-GO.
-Must have a job and not be with social assistance.
-No minore crimes or delinquency (implying that major crimes is an automatic deportation to the border if your not swiss).
-The final decision to give or not the citizenship should be made by the people in every town and Canton.

The citizenship should be also accompanied with probation period of 2 or 3 years in which citizenship could be removed if any crimes are commit.
The persons should also do some sort of civilian or paramilitary (more like civil protection and without weapons) service during this period to validate their citizenship.

And we should deport way more parasites to the border.

-Only need to get a background check for Bolt-action rifle (it took 2 days for the background check)
-Only need background check and licence (it took 2 weeks and is only paperwork) to get a semi-auto rifle, shotgun, or handgun.
-No need of medical evaluation or other shits.
-Once you got your guns no need to do something to keep them. They're truly yours.

-Only auto weapons are hard to get for civilians.

SWISS ARMY SELECTS GLOCK AS NEW SERVICE PISTOL
von GLOCK Inc., Dienstag, 3. Mai 2011 um 17:31

Army Declares GLOCK as Winner of Evaluation for Special Forces Duty Weapon
Smyrna, GA (May 3, 2011) – Today, GLOCK Ges.m.b.H. located in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria, announced that the Swiss Army has chosen GLOCK as the new service pistol for the Swiss Army Special Forces. The evaluation process was conducted by three independent elements of the Swiss Army: The Army Reconnaissance 10 (AAD 10: Armee Aufklärungsdetachement), a specialized unit of the Swiss Army (Special Forces) and the Swiss Military Security Agency (MilSich) tested the capabilities and efficiencies of the GLOCK pistol in the field of operations, while the technical evaluation was handled by the national evaluation and procurement agency “armasuisse”.
The GLOCK Pistol models ultimately selected were the GLOCK 17 Gen4 and GLOCK 26 Gen4 9x19 semi automatic pistols, as well as the Blue GLOCK Training pistol, the GLOCK 17T Gen4 and GLOCK 26T Gen4 which will have the ability to fire both FX and ATK Force on Force marking ammunition.
The Swiss Army began their search for a new duty pistol in 2009- GLOCK pistols excelled during field testing as the Army found them superior in ease of handling which provided evaluators superior capability to score hits during target acquisition drills.

“GLOCK is very proud to have been competitively chosen by the Swiss Army over all other competition,” said GLOCK Vice President Josh Dorsey. “GLOCK was chosen for this project due to the reliability and durability that have made GLOCK pistols famous. GLOCK’s focus remains on providing safe, simple and fast pistols to those that go in harm’s way. Our firearms are designed for these individuals to succeed and survive in any situation.”
The first round of GLOCK pistols will be issued to replace the existing SIG 220 and SIG Pro pistols being de-commissioned.
