Also here is some spent casings that looked all gouged up.
>>
>>30350233
might be cosmoline on the bolt, might have to disassemble the bolt and clean it

>>
>>30350279
Drill & wire brush may help, don't go crazy

Also polish bolt surfaces (don't remove metal- just make it shine)

You tube sticky bolt
>>
Cases look normal, mine does the same for no good reason. Tough bolt is probably Cosmo hiding in the extractor Groove and chamber

Ive somewhat polished the bolt with some mothers aluminum polish. Its not spectacular but its not super dirty looking either
>>
>>30350279
those cases are sightly bulged
>>

nigger i can see the cosmoline in the nooks and crannies

sticky bolt is pretty usual for a nugget. headspace is probably fine if serials are matching

Chamber shitty pic. Maybe there is some cosmoline left
>>
>>30350391
You don't touch the bolt face moron, that's how you get excessive head space
>>
>>30350415
Serials match. And yeah there migjt be some cosmoline in under the extractor but does that really cause a guy to have to put the stock on his hip and fucking bare down on the bitch to get it to eject??
>>
>>30350427
clean your gun faggot
>>
>>30350442
I didnt touch it im just saying I cleaned the fucker with degreaser and thats how it came out. I did polish the outside of the bolt, you know the shit that shows when its closed up in the gun
>>
>>30350427
>"Might be cosmoline left"

Shit is literally swimming in it.
>>
>>30350451
take your bolt apart and clean it, scrub the chamber with a chamber brush, then report back
>>
>>30350508
Thanks. Im going to clean it better I guess.

I dont know if im making it clear enough here though, this thing only wants to open back up after beating the shit put of it. Does cosmoline or dirty chamber really cause this?
>>
>>30350391
>>30350427
OP you sausage monkey.
It still has cosmoline Caked on the bolt/receiver
>>
>>30350538
yes clean the fucker
then when your done clean it again

Yes.. it heats up and melts into the everythings and then hardens after its been burned into everything. It's akin to pouring syrup into a car's engine and going for a trip

Get some man hands and slap the bolt like the dirty cossack sucker you are.
>>
>>30350391
You didn't tear down and clean the bolt?
>>
>>30350391
>>30350427

You make me feel like I'm the only fucker to use brake cleaner on a rifle, and I know I'm not.

Take the wood off and bathe that bore in brake cleaner. Make sure you oil it down after it's all evaporated.

Fucking idiot. The bolt was the first thing I de-greased.
>>
>>30350628
I did just not too good it seems. I soaked the pieces in mineral spirits and everything
>>
>>30350652
Hey look, being as its 2016 already and these things are so old how was I supposed to know? Its like if I took your mom out and laid her flat and my dick got stuck in her mothballed gine and I had to use the truck wench to get me unstuck. I thought it was a much worse problem than cleaning issues.

strip it down to bare metal, boil bolt and related assemblies, pour boiling water down barrel, get some nice gloves and bore brush that shit.

It'll come out squeaky clean.
>>
>>30350697
>these things are so old how was I supposed to know?

... Because they come in a box looking like this. That's how.
>>
>>30350741
Mine came off the shelf relatively dried of cosmo and the guy said hed shot it before so I just trusted him.
>>
>>30350762

Can't trust anyone, ever, man.
>>
>>30350233

How well did you clean it? Be honest.

Did you get all of the cosmoline out from under the locking lugs, as well as the chamber? There's plenty of videos on the net on how to do this.

There's cosmo everywhere and in everything, a quick wipe down isn't good enough. Mine took a soak in M-Pro 7 cleaner and then one in CLP before it was really clean enough.

Mosins sometime take manhandling to open, but if it takes more than a good wack of your hand, something isn't right.
>>
>>30350427

Your entire issue is lack of cleaning, Soak that fucker in CLP and get to brushing, boot
>>
>>30350655
Mineral spirit bath isn't all that effective, it only works to remove the film really. Any globs takes ages to dissolve.

Boil the small parts, get some hoppes #9 and scrub the aftermath off, and then oil to taste.

The chamber is a tough one unless you have a large grill to fit the entire action in. Might just find a tub large enough to soak overnight.
>>
>>30350391
>>30350427
drench that shit in Ballistol, let it sit for 20 minutes, then wipe them down
>>
>>30350739
what is that magnificent thing pictured?
>>
>>30350789
The bolt I cleaned more than once so im thinking its the chamber because in all honesty I only ran a patch in the bore and called it a day
>>
>>30350854
I will boil it. Also will a shotgun brush work for getting that shit out of the chamber or is that too much?
>>
>>30350949
reduces the hand nuggets trigger pull from 25 lbs to 17
>>
I used gasoline to clean my mosin, no problems so far
>>
>>30351001

Make sure to disassemble the bolt first. Videos available on the net, and the extractor doesn't need to come out.

Be warned, boiling the raw steel can cause it to flash rust and/or discolor as soon as you take it out of the water. Have CLP, Rem oil, or hell WD-40 ready and spray the living crap out of it as soon as it comes out.

>>30350980

Take off the stock first before cleaning out the receiver. Shellac damages easily from gun solvent.

I had excellent results using Gunslick foaming bore cleaner and M-Pro 7 (hoppes elite) water based gun cleaner, to get rid of the cosmoline buildup. You still need to use a brush, and q-tips if need be to get into all the nooks and crannies.
>>
>>30350427
fucking imbecile.
>>
>>30350762

I was really stoked my Mosin arrived without being covered in cosmoline too, but upon closer inspection of the inner parts it's like someone did a really, really nice job of cleaning the outside, but that didn't do anything for the inside

On a side note, I have cleaned/lubed the whole rifle, disassembled and boiled my bolt parts numerous times, and even done the trick where you put a brass shotgun brush on a drill (albeit without valve lapping compound), and I STILL get a sticky bolt. All I've ever shot through it was surplus ammo, both Russian/Czech, at this point I'm wondering how much of it is the gun and how much is the ammo

>never bought new brass ammo for it because that sort of defeated the purpose, back when I bought it in '11 for $130 when ammo was $.11cpr that I stockpiled
>>
>>30351497
This is what I was asking >>30351107 This guy about. Thanks to both. I want to try the shotgun brush in a drill and see if that helps cuz im tellin ya the thing is jammed In there and almost have to hammer it open after firing. Im going to boil and clean the chamber and bore good and ill check back in. Also I used oven cleaner to get my shellac off and then just several coats of linseed and it turned out ok I would say. The original finish on it was pretty nasty looking to me so I wanted it nicer.
>>
>>30350739
what the fuck is going on in this picture?
>>
>>30350854
I've used mineral spirits to remove cosmo on multiple guns, gonna have to disagree here. If you have 'gobs' of cosmo, they need to be physically removed. The solvent isn't meant to do all of the work for you.

Of course nothing beats a dip in the ultrasonic tank and a compressed air gun.

>>30351640

Sounds good OP, good luck. IV 8888 made a video where he did the 440? shotgun brush on a drill method, just use a lot of oil when you have at it.
