CZ-527-1.jpg

Looking at getting something a little lighter than my HBAR to throw on a pack and carry around. Prefer to stay 223 for ammo compatibility.

My top 3 choice are:
CZ 527 Carbine
Savage 11/111 Hog Hunter
Kel Tec SU-16 (yes, it's a different class of gun, I know)

Your suggestions?

Thanks man. I love the way that thing looks

Su16, since u wanna stay in 223 caliber. Unless u r feeling special snowflake and get what i have, an SBR ares scr. Well balanced and light.

ar15?

why would you want a bolt gun for innawoods
>>
>>30350299
Looking to stay under $1,000 and no NFA paperwork. The CZ gives me a boner in the wood and steel way, but I like the SU16 in the folding tactical way.

Guess I'll have to sell something

Relatively light, fewer parts, not as bulky, turns me on, etc
Already have an AR, looking for something different. Also thought about an SKS, but eh. Had a Mosin, had a Mauser, had an Enfield, so kinda eh on that as well.

I'm in a similar situation.

I'd like a bolt .223 kinda mini scout style.

I too am interested in the cz527, and the savage 11 hog hunter, but I also am considering the ruger GSR in .223. OR looking at some other .223 bolt rifle and adding iron sights to it.

Any thoughts?

just carry a rape whistle and some pepperspray.

Obviously someone isn't into to ultra-lighting.

The whole ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain. If I can cut 2-4 pounds from my gun, and maybe some length/bulk, i can potentially add elsewhere (water, medical supplies, etc). Or just save weight, which is nice.
>>
>>30350695
My issue with the GSR is that you have to use a long-eye relief scope since it mounts forward of the action. Not a huge deal, but not quite as common as a standard scope. Love those rifles though.

That CZ would be perfect. I think they're some of the most underated rifles right now in the world.

Local gun shop has one for around $550, might swing by tomorrow

I've got a CZ 527 Carbine in .223, it's a pretty great gun.

My only complaints are that it's not ideal for mounting optics, but if you're looking for light weight you'd probably be sticking with irons anyway. And that magazines aren't exactly cheap, plus they're 5rnd only and can't be loaded through the action.

The SU16 is also extremely light if you pick it, under 5lb which is pretty darn light comparatively. You could build a featherweight AR even lighter but the cost would probably go over $1k for the carbon handguards and shit

Browning BLR takedown in .223 with pistol grip. Very small.
>>

The sights in the back are removable, you can mount a scope regular or scout style.

SU16.
You don't get back up irons that don't fold out of the way, do you?

whatever you get, make it a take down and you are set. Wire folding stock, and polymer body. A lot of people will scoff at this, but when you are going for long hikes every pound matters, and if its a multi day, you will appreciate as every ounce starts to matter, and your gun weight can be invested in quality boots, and supplies instead.

If you want to go really light, get a nice breakaway or handi rifle single shot.

However, something ugly but functional like pic related, in anything but .22 is ideal.

THIS!
I've got a 527 carbine in 7.62x39mm and it's a really sweet rifle.

My backpack gun, a 10/22 in an under folder stock. I bought this instead of buying a take down 10/22. If I had take down I wouldn't bother with the folder. I take it hiking and camping in the cascades. Hides perfectly in a scabbard attached to my backpack.
