Questions that don't Deserve Their Own Thread Thread!!!!

I am thinking about buying an AR-10. I'm eyeballing Link Related
http://www.livefreearmory.com/product/lf308-20-hunter-rifle/

Does anyone know anything about the company or the rifle? Also considering the 18" but it's only 4oz lighter so... Anyhoo

Answer my question or ask your own and go!!!!

Yeah, I guess I'll bump.

Do I take it then that no one knows anything about this company?

Can't find shit about them online. Assuming you need a ~$1000 AR10 and you shoot right handed, just get a DPMS G2.

Either that, or buy one, and let us all know if the suck.

Looks like a fine rifle, but I don't know the brand at all. Lots of new rifle companies these days.
In another, unrelated question, what would a person expect to pay for a good cerakote job on an AR15? I have been considering having mine done, I just don't know what a reasonable cost for it would be.

I'm going to get my first gun soon, and it is going to be my only gun for the next few years for a couple reasons that aren't really important.

I want to get a handgun. Primary use will be training at the range and getting familiar with firearms, secondary uses will be SHTF defense and hunting small game. I might want to get a CCW license in the future but not now.

I'm having trouble deciding between a Glock 17 and a .22lr pistol like the Ruger Mark III. I'm worried .22lr will be unreliable and garbage for defense (doable, but far from ideal). I'm worried that 9mm will cause too much damage to game animals and ruin the meat.

I'm also planning on getting a suppressor for whichever one I buy, if that matters.

I'd appreciate advice from any hasguns.

Have a Maverick 88 which I suspect has a large amount of surface rust inside the barrel. I say surface because it's shiny and I'm seeing no pitting at all, but when I run patches, the thing is coming out all brown and shit.

Would it be better for me to elbow grease it or just find a new and clean Maverick 88 or Mossberg 500 12 gauge barrel that is chrome-lined and replace the damn thing?

What exactly is the difference between 5.56 round and .223? Is 5.56 heavier and pack more force, or are they basically the same? If my AR-15 can shoot both, which do I want to use?
>>
>>30354996
if rifle is labled 5.56 it can shoot also .223 but if the rifle is labled .223 its not advised to shoot 5.56 without making sure the rifle can handle it

5.56 is a bit hotter than .223

Are guns on planes even relevant anymore?
Obviously BRRRRRTT has its place, but Im more asking about the Raptor for example.
I would think that with the speeds they can go at and just how sophisticated air to air missiles are, 20-30mm cannons on fast jets are kinda defunct.

The early jet age prompted that exact question, leading to the F-4 being developed without an internal gun. An external gun pod was later added because they were wrong.

Not that into reloading but rifle should be fine without resizing, pistol/straight wall cartridges may need it as you often have to expand the neck before seating your bullet.

Well, putting one together out of bargain basement parts, purchased over a long time (whenever stuff's on sale) will cost around $800, inc. FFL and shipping costs, plus sights/glass. Realistically, that's a pretty good price for a .308 AR, but I don't know the company. I'm guessing it's DPMS spec, which means good things for parts commonality, and helps explain the low prices (Armalite spec has a lot of snowflake parts).

>handgun for hunting
not advisable, you want a rifle. get a ruger 10/22 for both hunting small game and familiarizing yourself with firearms. it will also be suitable for home defense - with good shot placement, 22lr is just as lethal as any other penetrative projectile.
>>
>>30357184

I've noticed the MCX has a rectangular-ish handguard. Wonder if they are sold separately and for the AR-15.
>>

I just got a psa bcg for my first ar build. Do I need to open it up and clean/lube it or should it be good to go?
>>
>>30357476
Not sure what he was going for either. Should be easy to clean, though, since there's no rifling. I'd give it an overnight solvent bath and then go hog wild with a bore snake.

Rust breeds rust, so best to do something bout it.
>>
I have a worn out harrington and richardson shotgun. I'm new to guns in general and want to learn how to disassemble, reassemble and clean this gun. The info on the side of the gun is almost entirely worn off.
>>
>>30357623
Strip it and clean it to remove the factory preservative (if any), then lube it, and reexamine it in 24 hours. If it can dry, it may drink in that oil like a sponge (metal is porous, after all) and have no lube left on the outside.

This >>30357794, usually accomplished with cheap ammo. For example, no one uses TulAmmo (formerly known as Wolf) for any self respecting purpose, since it's dirty, overpowered, and not especially accurate. However, when your goal is to blast apart that 24 case of undrinkable store brand soda (Diet Dr. Thunder, etc) you sprinkled on the 25 yard berm, it's just the ticket.

If it comes with a bayonet, check to see if the serial number on it matches the rest of the gun. They often ship them with the wrong bayonet, and since the guns are all hand-built in factories the bayonets and the rest of the parts are custom fit to that specific gun. You can rework the bayonet with a small grinder tool to get a fit if not. Also, never rely on the stripper clips if you intend to use it for self defense (I wouldn't). I also note that the gun's accuracy changes with the bayonet attached. Mine fires better with it. Check to make sure the bore isn't fired out. It'll look worn through the barrel.

>>
>>30362713
I would suggest either a small bore shotfun with birdshot, a high velocity pellet gun or a cheap .22 plinker. Have used all of the above on the family farm to take out anything up to chicken sized with minimal fuss, and though I have never tried .22 shot I can't imagine it having enough oomph to kill anything more than a couple feet away. At that range regular bullets or birdshot should serve you better anyways, with a much better effective maximum range.

Depends on the place and how fast the turnaround is, but I've seen prices range from as little as 200 to all the way to 500 bucks.

The big issue is whether you want just a single color or multiple/pattern setups. The more complicated, the faster the price'll rise.

But yeah, cheapest I've ever seen was about 200 for a full sized rifle.

ammo grain question

for something like 9mm in a cz75, I've heard 124 grain is ideal, but if I didn't know that and had boxes of 115, 124, 135, and 147 grain with me at the range, how would I deduce which one is better for the gun/better for shooting?
