Depends on how you shoot really. I have a PRO, CompM4, and T1. Functionally, they all work the same for me when shooting torsos inside of 250y.

The PRO and CompM4 are nicer on small targets at range like clays on the berm or small steel rounds as I like the "roomier" view through them in that scenario so I can pan off of a target that is covered completely by the dot then back on easier.

"What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud.

It felt to me like a bazooka — and sounded like a cannon.

But mostly, I was just terrified.

Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."

Really the pro is bulky and kinda crowded to look through. I run drills and am usually shooting torso sized targets from 15-250 yards. I also hunt jack rabbits with it.

I wouldn't call my T1 any less cluttered. Its profile is smaller to look past the housing, but when specifically looking through the lenses I prefer the 30mm aimpoints.

2. Weight, size, less tinted, higher quality glass. If those aren't enough for you, then don't buy it because those are the main benefits.

What rifle did you buy and how much are you looking to spend on what type of optic.

>>30339090
You could always get something like the Surefire SFMB and then the Warden for when you're at the range. Or, better yet, you could just not give a fuck about the people around you on the firing line because chances are they don't give a fuck about you either.

So you can be accosted by ticks, all manner of poisonous snakes, miles of bull nettle/poison ivy/multiflora rose/kudzu, meth heads, AWOL niggers, AWOL meth heads, Southern Baptists, heroin whores, and other undesirables even miles innawoods?

Completely agree.

In one 3 hour hike I saw
>4 copper heads
>1 pygmy rattler
>1 timber rattler
>2 cotton mouths
>fire ant mound the size of a Lincoln Continental
>2 separate pieces of UXO (keep in mind I'm ~70 miles from the base)
>1 meth lab
>2 illegal grow ops
>1 non functioning moonshine still
>2 functioning moonshine stills
>the site of a satanistic sacrifice, complete with pentagram and decomposing goat
>someone's outhouse (complete with current Sears catalog for wipin'), because innawoods MO still has people without indoor plumbing

I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Are the proprietary barrel nuts on the Noveske NSR reliable? The whole set-up looks kind of flimsy, considering only 6 Torx screws are holding the thing to the upper receiver.

Alright guys, I want to put together an AR-15 and since this general (mostly) has a good idea of what items are top-quality and what items are complete trash what would you guys recommend for a high quality AR-15 build? (asking everyone in general) So I can put together a shopping list of what to buy.

I would like high quality but not quite gucci. (Also webm is just to grab attention)

>>
>>30340116
>are holding the thing to the upper receiver
uh, wut? No, the barrel nut is holding it to the upper receiver. It's also holding the barrel in. And since the thread pattern is standardized, it's fine.

If you mean holding the handguard to the barrel nut, yeah 6 is actually overkill and many handguards that have a reputation for being "durable" have half as many or fewer.
>>
>>30340055
you can get a DWI on a bike too
>>
>>30340139
BA barrel; Aero upper/lower; any one of a dozen different sub-$200 handguards depending on brand loyalty, length, and Mlok vs. keymod; B5 SOPMOD stock, Geissele SSA-E trigger; PSA LPK and buffer tube.

Sub-$1k rifle that's halfway gucci.
>>
>>30340160
Contact issue is if you cannot into correct battery orientation.

The glare is a real thing, not crippling, but something the Aimpoint does not do. Shoot with the sun at tour back and you will get a red flare in the optic back at you with the MRO.

>>
>>30340116
this is what made me switch my prospect to the geissele SMR. the weight increase is negligible to me and the barrel nut is WAY bigger and supports the rail further so you get a really stable platform for the rail itself.

NSR is awesome for a super lightweight gun though, but i fear it is way less durable.

i say those because one local guy got so many DUIs that they permanently revoked his license. Then he drove a John Deere tractor around town, drunk of course and got arrested for that.

Then he drove his lawnmower around town, drunk of course, and was arrested for that. That was fun. He was driving down the road completely shitfaced when the cops lit him up, so he cut onto people's lawns and kicked the blade on while yelling "I'm mowing lawns you can touch me!"

Then he rode a horse around town drunk and got arrested when he fell off. They had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to impound a horse.

Then he put a toilet on a golf cart and rode that around. When the cops went to arrest him he dropped his pants and yelled "I'm taking a shit fuck you, you can't touch me" and got arrested for DUI, public indecency, criminal mischief, and every other fucking thing they could throw at him.

MOA LLC, 45* selector compatible "enhanced milspec". Like $80 through MOA LLC (local company that sells online, good people)

Aero Precision standard, milspec upper, ~$80

Ballistic Advantage Hanson 16" midlength, $230

PSA MOE lpk w/o FCG, $50
>trigger
Geissele SSA-E, currently $230 but expect a good sale for the 4th of July. I know this is expensive but totally worth it.
>stock assembly
B5 SOPMOD, $60; PSA carbine buffer tube assembly, $30
>handguard
Aero Precision Quantum 15" blem handguard, $80
>muzzle device
Strike Industries J-Comp, $40
>sights
KAC USMC-stamped 600m micro rear, anywhere from $43-65 on eBay. Pic related is what I paid for 2 of them. Either a Troy HK-style folding front (~$65 on ebay) or Magpul MBUS Pro front (~$70 through several places, including ebay).

Any <16" barreled gun that doesn't have a stock but is over 26" is an "other", not a pistol. Those can have VFG's.

If it's a <16" barrel and stockless it's a "pistol" and can only have an AFG.

One is at less than a 90* angle.

One is at a 90* angle.

The BCM VFG that's at like an 85* angle has been ruled as both at the same time so don't use it on a "pistol" because the ATF are fucking retarded.

MBT and Geissele SSA-E are both great triggers. I highly recommend both, the mbt wait time is around 2-3 months but it's worth it for $125.

What's the muzzle device on the pistol? I've got an A2 on mine and intend to swap it out

I'm planning on guying an SSA or SSA-E honestly since I don't really want to wait that long and everyone has only positive things to say about them (except for their price). But I don't know anything about drop in triggers and wondered if they're worth looking into.

*buying

By drop-in do you mean a cassette type trigger like the Timney/AR Gold/CMC?

Not unless you find a really good deal on one. As in, sub-$150.

Now don't get me wrong, I like my CMC 3.5lb flat single-stage, but the proprietary trigger pins that require (almost microscopic) E-clips to stay in and the fact that cassette triggers as a whole are less durable means it is objectively inferior to other options.

For example, the SD-E has the same pull weight (+/- like 1-2 ounces), uses normal trigger pins, and by design is far more durable. Also has less creep and overtravel. Almost twice what I paid for my CMC though.

Yeah I meant like cassettes. Okay thanks. One of the cassette type triggers that has very favorable reviews is the RISE Armament RA-140, which costs $130. So I guess I just have to decide if an SSA-E is worth the extra $100.

If you go with the Geissele wait until primary arms has a sale, its usually 15-20% off.
>>
>>30344035
I'm entirely unfamiliar with that trigger, so I can't give you any advice.

I will say I've tried 14 different AR triggers from 6 different companies, and the one that has the best feel is out of production because it was a fragile, tinkery POS.
>still pissed at Jewell over it
>>
>>30344035
Never used that one so can't say how it is. I would wait until the 4th for sales. You should easily find the geissele shit for 20% off
>>
>>30344168
Im buying a geiselle and a t2 on the 4th ayyyee. Or maybe a mro idk.

The drop-in FCG packs are, by nature of their design, not as durable as normal FCGs

So considering that firearms technology often remains stagnant for centuries, followed by spurts of technological development, do you think we'll see AR-15's on Mars?

How would they handle the dusty, hostile, radiation-riddled environment? How would they handle the temperature extremes?
>>
>>30344242
>Stagnant for centuries
No it doesnt.
>>
>>30344253

It took two fucking centuries to get from flintlock to percussion caps.

Cartridge based ammunition is 150 years old, and we're still using it.
>>
>>30344242
>stagnant for centuries
lolno
>Mars
>temperature extremes
It's literally not as bad as Florida.
>hostile
Can't have a hostile atmosphere if you have no atmosphere.

>>30344270
It was more like 80 years. 200 years was matchlock to percussion cap, which still skips over 2 other action types.
>cartridge based ammunition is 150 years old
Yet *what* the case is made from has changed 3 times and currently has 3 major variants, and smokeless powder's only about 115 years old, and we've technically progressed past that too even though it's still the norm.
>>
>>30344270
>Something works well for centuries, constantly being tweaked and improved through technology
>stagnant

When they ayyliens stop dying from high speed lead injections, we will develop something better.
>>
>>30344270
Are you dumb? Do you honestly think thats the only way firearm technology advances?

(shameless repost I found from 6 months ago)

"I still don't know what the hell you wanted me along for," I shouted at the faceless golden helmets sitting across from me on the back of the buggy as they produced several ancient-looking rifles from a wooden crate on the truckbed and began clumsily pushing stripper clips of ammunition into them. One of the suits threw a rifle into my chest; even in the lower gravity, it was a hefty piece of work. Sloppily-stamped cyrillic with a soviet hammer and sickle emblazoned over the breech stared at me like some kind of joke.

Perhaps the dust was causing interference on the comms; perhaps they hadn't heard me.

"Why am I here!?"

"You are American, yes?"

"I have no idea why that would matter. What are we even doing?"

"You are cowboy. Load bullet." a stripper clip full of largish ammunition was shoved into my hands.

A dim red speck - the sun - rose over rock-strewn ground as we crested a crater rim. The driver made a small adjustment in direction, then gunned it down the reverse slope toward the desert pan beyond. A likely objective shimmered into view through the distortions of dust clouds whipping low over the surface - a tiny group of purple-black huts like geodesic rocks sat amidst an outcropping of rough ground perhaps a thousand meters ahead. No flag, no telemetry on this coming over my suit's personal assistant. Had to be Chinese, or maybe one of their "African" lackeys. Oh, dear sweet jesus.

I tried - and failed - to tear the flag off my shoulder.

"What is this? Are we claim jumping? We're claim jumping aren't we -"

The Russian across from me grabbed me by my shoulders and bumped faceplates with me. I could see the stubble on his face like a shadowed, unshaven skull in the hollow of the helmet.

"AV NU, CHEEKI BREEKI" he said, and then some of the men spontaneously jumped off the buggy into a run, fanning out over the pan and looking for cover. Oh holy shit, they were gonna do it.
