Has anyone here fought in any of the recent (1990+) wars? It seems like /k/ has a very small veteran population for a board centered around guns and warfare.

Sadly no. I went into the army in 1985 and was in the reserve by the time Desert Storm happened. My reserve unit was not called up and so I missed the only war of my era.

Not that big a deal really. It was over in 100 hours. I do feel weird when someone thanks me for serving and I've never accepted a single veteran benefit. I didn't do much of anything.
>>
>>30335798
Oh that's not what I said m80. I know there are Balkan war vets here because I've talked to them, however none were from the Balkans because they were with the UN. Further proof is this lying fag that got exposed and obviously dropped the name or left. The proof is literally ITT.

Literally your entire response to him.
You said you dont believe that there are vets from that war on /k/ outside of anyone on the UN mission. Anon said NATO instead of UN in that post. This doesn't change the meaning in his post in any way, nor did it invalidate his point that you've only been arguing anecdotal evidence. You chose to ignore this point to attack his error in saying NATO instead of UN.

Please fucking kill yourself, preferably without taking out infidels with you.
>>
>>30336005

>>
>>30336037
I deserted. Meaning I ditched my uniform, rifle, everything and left for Romania. There was nothing left in the Balkans for me.
Most people probably don't provide proof because they don't want anything to connect them to that time. It wasn't fun or full of memes like people on here would suggest.
>>
>>30336035
Yes it does. NATO and UN participated and had vastly different roles, also I didn't choose to attack his error because I already addressed his point. Reading comprehension m8.

Well this thread went to shit pretty fast.I guess I'll throw my stories into the pile regardless. Bear in mind these all come from vets who were deployed earlier in the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict.

One from an officer's time as a pl. This took place in RC south iirc. His unit hadn't really seen a lot of action in the deployment (just pot shots, and smaller ieds), but about halfway through his striker column got hit with a 500-800 lb bomb that cracked the vehicle in front of his. His driver's hatch was open, allowing a chunk of the cracked vehicle's armor to fly in, cutting his driver's head in half and continuing down the hellhole to embed itself in said officer's side. Not only did he lose an entire third of his platoon (1 squad, gun team, gunner, and VC), but he was wounded by the same piece of metal that just passed through his own driver's head.

The next one was from a spc pulling security on a compound (I should add that the ANA present with the group refused to even go down the road leading to the compound, which should present some huge warning lights). The point man stepped on a "toe popper" and lost his feet at the ankles, causeing the minehound operator and the medic to panic and run to him. The medic triggered a secondary when he knelt down to help the pointman and all three were killed. The Spc on security got a piece of femur embedded in him, but that didn't stop him from having to be on the team that picked up remains. Unfortunately they had a massive area to cover, due to the proximity of the explosives, and by the time they found the medic's torso, dogs had gotten to it on the side of a nearby irrigation canal.

The last one I have for now was from a drill that I knew a while ago. They were on patrol and stopped to give out water to kids. One of the children didn't appreciate that too much, and stabbed one of the members of his team in the throat with a broken piece of glass, killing him in seconds.

PTSD is real, just different from WWII

>>

>>
>>30335939

Right? And there's a lot of wanna-be hooah hooahs on here that either never served and try to demean people with their fake service or did serve and inflate it and any insecurities encompassed in that onto other people who served, possibly greater than them.

I'm a pretty regular guy, I've served (still in, going for six) and if I mention anything related to some shit I've done, am set to do, or even mention it sideways; I get a fucking barrage of

>lol, let's see your proof
>lol, no you didn't
>let's see your ID
>lol, you won't make it through (insert school)

So why even try? It's not like I've ever said anything sideways, I'm that guy that doesn't say shit unless I think it's relevant.

There's a lot of angst, disgruntlement and unhappiness amongst both veterans and wanna-be never-served fags.

Just be the best fucking people you can be.

Whew.
