The difference between a gun and an abortion

A gun doesn't inherently kill a person.

An abortion does.
>>

Surprised no one here has mentioned that by those standards it is actually harder to acquire a gun than to get an abortion.

Liberals live in a fantasy world where they think guns can be picked up like a bottle of milk because they've never tried. They just hear their ideologues parroting "Too easy. Too easy. Too easy." and assume it's totally unregulated.

Also, I would totally go through all of that if guns were tax subsidized like abortions.

97% of their services aren't abortions, but services include things such as providing condoms. Abortions are 30% of their budget.

Additionally, money is fungible. The government can give a PP clinic muny and say that the muny is for condoms, but it's effectively paying for abortions.

Depends where you live.

In a free state and for long guns. you fill out a 4473 which includes a ton of questions relating to whether or not you're a felon. stuff about drugs and the like.

The guy at the counter calls the NICS and they do a background check. if you're on record for anything related to domestic violence or a felony, you're unable to legally buy a gun from the store or any store for that matter. and the feds get a notice to start asking questions.

some states take this further. like illinois requiring a Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) card.

Handguns are usually slightly more regulated. some states only do a background check like long guns. but you need to be at least 21 federally for handguns. otehr states require some sorta permit to buy a handgun.
>>
>>30334331
depends, are you a felon or were you adjudicated mentally deficient? if so, all you need to do is go to your local drug dealer and ask him what hoodrat he got his from. or ask a relative to buy one for you in his name.

if not you go to a gun store, find the gun you want, ask for it, fill out a form 4473, wait for it to be processed, and hopefully, receive your gun

Gun ownership drops in US, but support for gun rights grows

LARRY FENN and ANGELIKI KASTANIS
June 19, 2016

FILE - In this Jan. 16, 2013 file photo, assault weapons and hand guns displayed for sale in Springfield, Ill. Gun ownership has decreased among all age, race and gender groups since 1973. At its peak in that time frame, in 1977, 50.4 percent of households had guns. By 2014, just 31 percent of households did. (AP Photo/Seth Perlman)
More
A look at gun ownership and attitudes about gun control in the United States:
— Gun ownership has decreased among all age, race and gender groups since 1973. At its peak in that time frame, in 1977, 50.4 percent of households had guns. By 2014, just 31 percent of households did.

— The drop was most pronounced among younger Americans. Among 18- to 25-year-olds, the ownership rate fell from 45 percent to 13 percent.
— Black gun ownership has dropped 75 percent since 1973; white gun ownership has decreased 48 percent.
— In 2014, about one-fourth of whites, 26 percent, owned a gun. Among blacks, the rate was 10 percent.
— Gun owners are more likely to vote. In 2004, 31 percent of gun owners said they voted, versus 17 percent of those without guns. In 2008, 23 percent of gun owners reported voting, compared with 17 percent of non-gun owners. In 2012, it was 25 percent versus 19 percent.
— When asked which is more important, gun control or protecting gun rights, big gains have been recorded in those choosing gun rights, particularly in the past 15 years, leaving Americans nearly evenly split. Those favoring gun rights
>>
>>30338969
— 29 percent of the population in 2000 — grew to 47 percent by last year. Those saying gun control is more important declined from 57 percent to 50 percent in the same period.
— Though a big gap still exists between blacks and whites, both groups have moved to valuing gun rights over gun control. In 1999, 17 percent of blacks favored gun rights over gun control, compared with 34 percent in 2014. Whites went from 32 percent to 61 percent.
— Republicans have moved far more swiftly than Democrats toward favoring gun rights over gun control. In 1999, 42 percent of Republicans said gun rights were more important, versus 76 percent in 2014. Among Democrats, the increase was much smaller, from 19 percent to 28 percent.

not everyone will successfully circumvent that raise/lowering gate. Some people will get caught before they have the chance to damage the grass.
It's probably worth it to inconvenience some people so that we catch the some of the dangerous people who drive dangerously.

we have lots of guns in Australia too, but we have reasonable regulations. Ie. they have to be stored away safely when not in immediate use.
So if you're having a DV wtih the missus you don't cave into the temptation to reach under the pillow and grab the convenient loaded pistol.
My pistol is in the safe, ammunition in another safe. I use it for sports shooting.

unfortunately the statistics reflect that a vast majority of american's can't have convenient access to loaded, semi automatic firearms around the home and in public without occasionally mass murdering each other.

yeh niggers are always going to nig. Fuck have you seen aboriginals on youtube? imagine aboriginals in Australia with guns? it would be anarchy. I feel for you. If I lived in America I'd want a gun to protect myself 24/7 too.
I'm not saying the gubermint should 'take your guns'. Guns are cool. I have guns. Maybe home defence should continue to be a valid reason to have guns. But there does need to be an improovement in regulation, licensing and training and safe storage regulations in your country. It's out of control and very inconsistent state to state.

it's always a balance. You still have and accept regulation in your country.
The freedom to express your opinion in public is tempered and regulated by public nuisance/disorder laws.
The freedom to kill yourself is regulated by the power to detain you and take you to the hospital if you're mentally ill.
The freedom to drive anywhere on a road is regulated by the restrictions of paying rego/insurance and stopping for the police.
Guns need to be regulated similarly. Sure SOME people will still break the laws but we will stop a portion of those people.
There is a happy medium between NO GUNS and UNLIMITED GUNS OF ANY TYPE FOR EVEYONE.
I think you Americans are too far on one side.

murder is across the board.
More specifically if you're driving like a fuck head there are offences like dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. There is legislation about what modifications or defects are unacceptable on a car. We all agree there shouldn't be cars driving on public roads with knives and blades on the front - that's just common sense.
Conversely it shouldn'y be lawful for people on Mental Health Orders to purchase guns. It shouldn't be lawful for people to go around in public with semi automatic rifles loaded ready to go. That's just asking for trouble when someone cuts someone off on the highway or two people argue about a carpark.
>>
>>30339355
>It's probably worth it to inconvenience some people so that we catch the some of the dangerous people who drive dangerously.
Whether or not to implement that gate is the choice of the owner of the road. Now, unless you believe that the government explicitly owns all the citizens, you cannot effectively argue that such a measure levied upon the free exercise of a right whose protection is guaranteed in the Constitution is acceptable.

>>30339561
No, nothing is out of control. Outside decaying areas of inner cities and gang territory the US is as safe as any western European country, and every form of crime has been decreasing for decades. We don't want our basic human rights to be regulates to maybe perhaps quicken that trend. Nobody in a free society needs a "valid reason" to do anything as benign as owning an inanimate object, other than that they simply want to. If crime rates are a bit higher among people who can't control themselves, then so be it. As >>30339581 said, it's the price of freedom.

I'm tired of constantly being compared to other countries which were not founded as civil nations based on particular Enlightenment values. Different cultures value different things, and ours happens to value freedom. Perhaps your culture doesn't value freedom so much. It's your problem if you can't respect our differences, not ours.

The statistics? You mean the fact that mass shootings happen? That's not a statistic.

A statistic would be that around 200 people have been killed in mass shootings this year. Which sounds oh so scary, but you have to account for the fact that this number is for a country of 318,900,000 people. A statistic would be that 0.00006% of the U.S. population has been killed in mass shootings this year. A statistic would be that your odds of dying in a mass shooting are the same as being struck by lightning.

"But your murder rate is 4 times higher than other first world nations!" you might cry.

4 times higher than 1 murder per 100,000 people. So 4 people per 100,000. Including justifiable murders. Averaged for the entire country. Not counting the fact that there's over 10 states with a 1 in 100,000 murder rate, and that states with particularly violent cities throw the average off.

When people say "but murderers would just use a car, or a knife instead!" it's because the murder rate is low enough that it's totally possible.

I think the issue here is that a house without a convenient gun will likely end up as a scene of robbery, while a house with a gun will end up as a scene of homicide. American laws (in some states) justifying killing people who rob you doesn't change the fact that it leads to more people being dead.

You mean Orlando, right? And no, but he could have killed those people with a bomb. Or by setting a fire. He was able to kill so many because it was a packed night club and the door was held closed by people who first escaped.

Or maybe he couldn't have. Too bad. 50 people is statistically nothing, and is not enough cause to give up the right to bear arms.

This was a previously mentally sound individual who held an armed security license. No laws short of banning AR-15s by name would have prevented this, and in that case he would have used any other gun. Being a free society means being able to own the same kind of weaponry as those who enforce laws, and that won't change.
