ok i skimmed over this fbi shootout story and it seems like they went to using the 10mm after the incident because the .38s they were using wasnt enough, and then downgraded to the .40 because the 10mm was too hot. am i getting the gist?

also i think the guy at the store told me when i got this glock that the police will only use a particular line of service pistols for around 5 years and then get new issues just because they want new guns. they did switch to 9mm models (g17s i believe) but they might go back to the .40 when they change out in the next 5-10 years.

40 short and wimpy is basically a compromise caliber to achieve a smaller frame because they were already downloading the 10mm so far that it became useless to have all that extra case length if it wasn't being filled with powder.

On one side of the fence is being ridiculed by /k/ and everyone at the range who isn't ex-LE, and on the other is 9mm, with much better selection of projectiles and loadings, the ammo is cheaper (every penny counts when you shoot alot like myself), and you will congratulated on your upgrade.

40 and even 357 are really no better lethally than good ol' 9mm. I just keep it around as a drop-in option for suppressing 40SW pistols. If you're suppressing someone elses pistol you'll most likely replace their barrel and ammo, anyway.

3-4 cents more per round isn't really a "high cost of ammo" for the slight increase in power m8. I own more 9mms than .40s and I do agree 9mm is probably the more versatile platform, but just because it's slightly more expensive than 9mm doesn't make .40 high cost and 9mm cheap.
