I just took my Garand to the range for the first time and it seemed like it was ejecting a little week. After the eighth round the en bloc clip pops up maybe eight inches if that. My buddy's launches it into the roof over the firing line. Should I mess with it or leave it?

Go for the Swede, M38s are lots of fun, and you don't really have to worry about pressure the way you do with the M94s/M96s. 6.5x55 is not that hard to find ammo or components for either.

theres that meme again
nuggetfood is not gone, surplus nuggetfood is not gone, cheap nuggetfood is not gone. spamcans are the only thing thats "gone", and only because of ukraine. once that shit dies down we will see spam cans again.
tula, wolf, red army, privy, bear, hornady, and winchester all still make new commercial ammunition. red army standard (aka century arms) even makes cheap steel case here in the US now.

Depends, even if the Chinese ones are of slightly higher build quality than 42/43 mosins, the Russians generally took better care of their rifles. Most type 53s I've seen have sewer pipe barrels and look like they've been used as boat oars/anchors at some point. The Russians at least would rearsenal guns that needed repairs badly.
>>
>>30326874
Even if it is a 3, the swede armorers were pretty picky. I've seen M94s with 3 class barrels give very impressive groups at 300yrds. My class 2 m96 is pretty impressive at 600yrds for a 110yr old rifle.

I learned to shoot on an M44 when I was 8. Still have that rifle, probably won't ever sell it.

But they are a bit crap. Even good ones normally can't be trusted out to 200yrds. If you must have a mosin, get a 91/30, or any of the earlier models. If you must have a carbine, consider other models of gun entirely.

Depends. I learned to shoot on an M44 mosin and a 20ga H&R singleshoot when I was a wee bab, but I had my father there to coach me.

If you do not have someone to coach you, I would say no. It can be expensive to get ammo, may require you to do occasional repairs, and if you are a wuss it may hurt your delicate shoulder.

Get a cheap 223 bolt action, and put several thousand rounds through it. You'll have something more interesting than a 22lr, and ammo will still be cheap.

>>

>and you don't really have to worry about pressure the way you do with the M94s/M96s.
Ehh, they were more modern as long as they weren't converted 96s but in service the Swedish made no distinction. That said you don't have to worry about pressure in a Swedish Masuser, to my knowledge the only companies that load too hot for them are Lapua and Norma that makes hot hunting and target ammo where the round still the most popular, in Scandinavia.

I don't think the steel used was any different from earlier rifles but some people say that the quality control and manufacturing was better than at Carl Gustavs, if that's possible, other say it was the other way around. I could see how it might have included more modern practices, but who knows if that would have resulted in a stronger rifle.

The main thing to remember is it's a small ring and not a large ring.

Neither is gonna have cheap/reliably available ammo.

Also $350 is good price for either, but they can go up a good bit depending on condition, arsenal, accessories, Etc.

>>30327888
Any major difference in shootability or cool factor for either of the two?
>>
>>30328021
The 99 has better sights, and to me is cooler because of the monopod and AA sights, but I think the 6.5 is a better caliber and has a much better selection of bullets for reloading (which you absolutely should do). So the 38 would be more practical, and the 99 more stylish.
>>
>>30328021
type 99 comes with more dongles.

AA sights, monopod, plus its slightly shorter for tiny Japanese man hands so it makes a good innawoods rifle.

Ammo availability is shit all around

No.4 Mk.2s are made post-WWII and are usually in good condition due to them not being used in war. The Mk.1s were made during WWII and were used. That being said, all prices are dependent on condition. 200$ for a no.4 mk.1 seems too good to be true. Have you checked the bores on the rifles?
>>
>>30336534
I'm going there to check when I have the time. I got notified via some mailing list thing they have though they haven't responded to my email asking for info yet.

That's why I thought the unusually low price meant there is something wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if it was sporterized or some shit like that.

Sights, trigger, simplicity, bolt handle placement, action strength, reliability, weight and overall length. Some rifles might do some things better (like capacity for the Enfield) but overall it's the best. The only thing it does wrong is you can't adjust windage yourself.

Using Sportsman's Guide as my guideline looks around the same, though I could be wrong, haven't looked much into either recently
>>
>>30339966
My reloads for 7.5 French are $0.32/rnd
At best you can find factory ammo for $0.75/rnd, usually $1.25/rnd.

For 7.7 Arisaka, it'd be about $0.45/rnd for a handload (the 7.5 Mas uses 308 bullets so that saves a bit compared to the .311 for the Arisaka) and the cheapest 7.7 factory ammo I can find is $1.40/rnd.

So for milsurp calibers you can save $1/rnd or more.

kek i almost switched to canon because nikon is a bunch of whores when it comes to video and won't let you change the aperture while filming, unless your lens has an aperture ring. plus my d80 died because of a common problem that plagues older nikons where the mirror gets jammed in place and won't fully close. i hold no special love for nikon.

step up your inner gear whore. you know you can't take a good picture until you've remortgaged your home for gear, right?

not hard with the internet. if you are relying on local finds, might take you a bit depending where you are

Prvi makes some affordable shooting ammo, otherwise you are stuck with fancy $2 a round loads from hornady etc.

surplus 7.5 french exists but you would have to luck out and find that private party, no retailers stock it
