Any critique as far function goes (pouch placement, number of pouches, etc.)? I didn't put that much thought into it. I know I have like three different shades of so-called "Coyote Brown". The pouches on the carrier are for double stacking vz-58 mags, though you can also triple stack PMags. I swap them out with the pouches on the left for my AR to keep a lower profile. They also fit nicely into the kangaroo pouch if I single stack. The single mag pouch on the cummerbund can hold one of any mag, or two PMags if I really push. With the double stack Taco, I can hold a total of 9 vz-58 mags or 13 PMags. The pistol mag pouch allows for the standard 2+1.

Only pic of my gear on my phone. I've moved ifak and dip pouch to a cheap belt, along with 2x mag pouch, canteen, dump pouch and a holster. Added another mag pouch to the left side of PC.
I want to get a nice battle belt setup because its actually really nice to have while shooting, but the $150+ for the HSGI suregrip and cobra belt is money I'd rather spend on ammo, mags, or neat guns. Also I wish I'd have gotten the cheap condor ifak instead of the $50 maxpedition one. Absolutely hate maxoedition for not having molle straps built in; the other options (speed sticks and the tac ties) are garbage and not as nice as the straps on my $15 condor mag pouch.

Can't help you much, not too much into prepping, but bumping for interest. Also /out/doors have a lot of good tips for prepping. Weapons kinda depends on what and where you'll use it. If you live out at a farm, a sniper can be good, if you live in a suburb or city, an CQB to mid AR. AK47's from what I've heard are very food in terms of function while being beat up, but I don't know how hard it is to get AK47 ammo compared to AR, guessing 5.56/.233 is easier to find in the US.

Because the reverse flags are what is issued and that's what people have on hand. Those chest and helmet mounted flags are meant to be shoulder flags. People normally aren't going out and spending money on IR flags when they get them for free, even if the orientation is "wrong".

Deployed, there are stacks of the things around. And most stores that sell surplus are selling those.
When you see actual military with them, they orientation doesn't matter anyway, they just want the IR feature. I wore IR blood type stuff on my helmet even though the specific information didn't matter.

I had one but I wound up selling it for a little more than I paid. The mag pouches are in kind of weird places, the backpack thing isnt really big enough for a camelback unless you've got one that had the partition taken out. The big side pockets were about MRE sized which was nice. AK mags fit but were half exposed and it wouldnt close on top of them
I think it is far less from ideal for a combat loadout, but if you had it stocked with mags, a camelback, and some MREs it would be a decent "grab-and-go, we need to get the fuck out of here now" type thing.
It looks super cool though.
