I think with the magic of compositing it could be a great way of adding a lot of realism to movies, without compromising the safety of the actors.

Unfortunately its expensive, and most environments are not places it can be done.
>>
>>30322861
It's probably not safe
>>
>>30322861
A bit of an unnecessary risk considering not every actor is Keanu Reeves and actually knows how to use a gun

I think it is a terrific idea. It really helps me take on the role and brings a real sense of realism to the audience.
>>
Sounds stupid...i mean why would you if there are blanks?
>>
>>30322861
At least it would avoid scenes like in the Dark Knight Rises where CIA's pistol "fires" but has no movement of the slide.

>The film was shot in chronological order over a period of nine months. Aleksey Kravchenko says that he underwent "the most debilitating fatigue and hunger. I kept a most severe diet, and after the filming was over I returned to school not only thin, but grey-haired." The 2006 UK DVD sleeve states that the guns in the film were often loaded with live ammunition as opposed to blanks, for realism. Aleksey Kravchenko mentions in interviews that bullets sometimes passed just 4 inches (10 centimeters) above his head (such as in the cow scene).
>>
>>30323295
Because there are no thing like blanks right?

Half of film production is how it looks on camera. No big flash, no pretty with colors and action to the scene. But as they say, the other half is violence. Would be a cool addition if live fire film was superimposed onto the rest or if it had a cast willing to be on the receiving end or if there could just be a stunt man for that scene. It could work but would be a pretty stupid risk. Only good if they want tracers across the sky.
>>
>>30323366
Oh shit I was wondering about that part as well. Where he lays down at the cow.
I knew those were tracer bullets and not movie magic.
>>
Keeping in the same vein as this question, I always wonder if there'd be a director crazy enough to try and give a movie they were making an extra dose of realism (and maybe even terror) by making the firearm sounds really, really fucking loud like they are in real life. Like, for a firefight scene in a movie, they wouldn't add in any SFX and keep the real sounds that the weapons made (like in heat), but turn the volume up to closely resemble how loud it is in real life. That'd definitely add to a scene if they're trying to convey how disorienting and terrifying a full blown violent shootout is.

of course we couldn't just blow out everyone's eardrums in the theater but I think it could be a cool idea
>>
Some of the shots in shooter are real. At least where he shoots the gravy can. Idk about anything else.
>>
>>30323248
I don't think anyone else got the joke. I did and for those who didn't. Guy died due to a blank mishap or something.
>>
I don't think most actors could be trusted around firearms.

And by "most" I mean "liberal"
>>
>>30326516
I think most people got it, but realized it was /b/ tier tasteless, not funny, and not worthy of a reply.
>>

9/10 times guns tend to blow out the recording equipment they have since they have them set to pick up the actors voices.
I think the raid did a decent enough job with the suppressed weapons they had, rather than have that whisper quite shiiiwp noise they had the bass cranked on all the sounds for firearms.
Gives the impression of being really bloody loud while not being uncomfortable to listen to, not very realistic though since guns firing actually don't have much bass IRL but it sounds good

In the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be actually fired at Lee from a distance of 12–15 feet, the dummy cartridges were exchanged for blank rounds, which feature a live powder charge and primer, but no bullet, thus allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. As the production company had sent the firearms specialist home early, responsibility for the guns was given to a prop assistant who was not aware of the rule for checking all firearms before and after any handling. Therefore, the barrel was not checked for obstructions when it came time to load it with the blank rounds.[5][6] Since the bullet from the dummy round was already trapped in the barrel, this caused the .44 Magnum bullet to be fired out of the barrel with virtually the same force as if the gun had been loaded with a live round, and it struck Lee in the abdomen, mortally wounding him.[7] He was rushed to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, where he underwent six hours of surgery. However, attempts to save him were unsuccessful, and Lee was pronounced dead at 1:03 pm on March 31, 1993 at the age of 28. The shooting was ruled an accident.

Congratulations on supporting gun control
>>
>>30326745
"Dummy" cartridges are completely inert, right? So what were they being used for in filmmaking? Just to film shots of the guy reloading the gun and so on? And how exactly did the dummy bullet get trapped in the barrel if it couldn't fire?

>>30326516
>>30326745

To be perfectly honest if they had been using live ammunition exclusively and relied on camerawork and off-angle shooting to make it look real, it would have actually been safer.
>>
>>30323248
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Lee#DeathTthere is no excuse for that kind of incompetence on the part of the armorer

>Just to film shots of the guy reloading the gun and so on?
yes
> And how exactly did the dummy bullet get trapped in the barrel if it couldn't fire?
they left the primer in, so it got propelled into the barrel

>doesn't support unsafe use of firearms
>"HURR DURR GUN CONTROLZ"
>>
>>30327451

maybe I'm missing something but couldn't this have all been avoided if they used "hot" and "cold" guns and handled and stored them separately? It's not like there's any shortage of guns out there.
>>
>>30327516
Yep. Or just checked the damn barrel.

Wasn't that a barrel obstruction?
>>
>>30326407

They did this in Heat. Michael Mann said that they went to add fx in post and nothing sounded as good as the actual gun sounds. It was a commercial and critical hit, which is why basically nobody ever did it that was again. :(

>>30326516

Yeah I think everyone got that. I was about to post the same thing. Another fucking awesome movie.
>>
>>30326808

They can't be trusted to open their fucking yaps either, but that doesn't mean I'm anti 1A.
>>
>>30327421

There is. He was sent home and then the director decided to film a scene without him.

There was a firearms expert who made sure they checked the guns properly before switching from dummy cartridges to blanks, but for some reason he wasn't there at the time so they forgot to check the barrel before loading the blanks.
