Gonna buy a new SHTF rifle in two to three weeks /k/. Narrowed it down to three rifles.

PTR, Fal, and a stag arms AR.

Really want a ptr but I hear they chew brass and that worries me a bit. Is that just a myth or should I just steer clear?

Specifically looking at the PTR GI to buy from my local shop.

Quick question can I slot the wide style hand guards on the GI or is that not possible?
>>
>>30320908
He means that it mangles the brass when ejecting spent casing. This is very annoying if you reload
>>
>>30320888
PTR's recoil the most out of all rifles, so if volume of fire is in your interest, get the FAL or the AR.
The PTR will be the most accurate, and just as reliable as the FAL.

I like FAL's more personally but PTR's are great rifles, but keep in mind that delayed blowback is still a .308 blowback, it kicks.
>>
>>30320921

Heard you can install a buffer and it ain't so bad. But if it's that bad I'll buy a FAL where I hear it isn't so bad or the AR but I kinda dont want an AR. I have a .308 remington and would like to keep my ammo choices standardized.

If .308 is your chosen round, then it's pretty even between the FAL and PTR. Really just comes down to whichever has the ergonomics you prefer.

I personally recommend a FAL if you can find one that you can inspect in person. I think the adjustable gas system is a decent boon when it comes to SHTF, since you can just go full Rhodie and dial that bitch all the way up to '1'.

That being said, if you REALLY want to get a rifle that will be a good all-rounder in SHTF then the AR15 is really the better choice.
>>
>>30320936

Thanks fair anon I'll keep that in mind.

>>30320912

Can anyone answer this for me? Sorry if it's a dumb question just like the wide hand guard aesthetic.

Id steer clear
>>
>>30320980

Yeah the FAL is something I really like also. Can't really chose between DSA's 21 and 16 inch versions though.
>>
>>30320993
That is definitely 100% a genuine PTR, absolutely no doubt about that.
>>
>>30321004
16 is too short for .308
18 is the minimum if you ask me.
>>
>>30320985
Pretty sure you can
>>
>>30321032

Was thinking the same like it seemed a little too small or short that is.
>>
>>30320985
It is completely possible.
>>
>>30321032
16" is fine for .308
Fuddlore says 18", you loose like 50fps going from 18" to 16"

Gotta go 21. I'm a 5'11" manlet and I love the feeling of waving around a massive pike when I shoulder my FAL.

a port buffer like in your pic will solve denting, and the fluting marks are just cosmetic
iirc it won't fit on a railed model though

Use better powder and it wont be an issue.
Put a can or a FH on the barrel and the flash goes away. And your really grasping at straws if your argument is blast and flash.

Fuck that's so sexy then someone posts.

how terrifying.

That's not an actual PTR you idiot. it's a pot metal abomination from before the PTR was around.

Alright, thanks everyone.

Gonna head down to the store next week and hold some see which one I like.

Anyone have one of those PTRs chambered in 7.62x39? Any good?

I bought a PTR for my SHTF rifle, I love it. Dunno how much I've shot it, maybe 500 rounds. I like silver bear and ZQI. I just wanted a semi-auto .308 and PTR is the best value for the money. If I were to do it again maybe I'd get the welded rail but meh I like the aesthetic as is.
>>
>>30320888
Why does that bother you? your poorfagass aint gonna be able to feed it anything but steelcase anyway.....

also,
>Using FGMM or handloaded match rounds in a PTR
Dropping $100 bills in a river of shit makes more sense.

>FAiL
only one that will even work is a DSA arms, and even then, CAST receiver.

>Stagarms AR10
maybe, but I aint heard much about it. They do have a good warranty though, from what Ive read.
>>
>>30320993
Why dont you stop posting your bullshit dremel job where you fucked up your clip&pin job?
>>
>>30320888
>Really want a ptr but I hear they chew brass and that worries me a bit

They do, in fact, chew brass. It's a feature. G3s and G3 clones have fluted chambers that aid in the extraction of the spent casing. The fluted chamber is also why G3 clones launch spent casings into low earth orbit. When you pull the trigger, the round is going to fire and the bolt is going to cycle. Brass be damned.

If you want to reload, roller delayed blowback actions are not your friend.

Stag arms = fudd cannon
PTR is good. It chews brass though. Mine does.
FAL is good too. It's on my list.

No problem. Shipping takes a bit, but it's just like Christmas when the mail man comes.
>>
>look at prices for DSA FAL
>$1200 for the basic 21" model
Is it worth the big price hike over the PTR-91?
>>
>>30320993

What did you have to do to make that happen? I had a PTR-91F (I sold it) but it was solid as a tank. Did you swing it into a tree?
>>
>>30323149
There isn't really any reason to get an FAL over a PTR except for aesthetics and ergonomics.
>>
Anyone own a galil? Was thinking about picking up the galil ACE 16 inch barrel model when it comes out, I've always liked the look and design of them. Money isn't an issue.

Think it'll be super reliable?
>>
>>30320888
Buy a FAL, they are renowned in Africa for being the most reliable rifle available (yes, more than the AK series of rifles). Plus they are sexy. Costly to manufacture though (a lot of milling and waste material).
>>
>>30320888
I just bought a PTR 91 GI, and I love it.
>>
>>30320993
That's not a ptr, that's one of those shitty aluminum hk91 knock offs they made in the 90s

Also I have a ptr, it chews brass, but its one of my favorites to shoot. Mainly just shoot steel brown bear out of it. Pinging steel at 400yds with some authority is fun.
>>
>>30321088
Pure sex.
>>
>>30323619
I don't disagree.
>>
Blast is a very good reason to go with a longer barrel, doesn't anybody think about having to use their rifles without ears on? This is the main reason I will never own an sbr.

>>
>>30320993
That's a Federal Arms FA91 though. They made C308s look perfect in comparison.
>>
>>30320980
I'm kinda new, what does the "dialing it up to one" thing refer to? What happens at that gas setting?
>>
>>30320888
Was in a simlar situation as you OP.
Was originally looking at 21 and 16 inch FALs but they ended up selling out so I bought the PTR-91 on atlantic instead.
I've always wanted a PTR plus the mags are cheap and it can eat anything, when it arrives maybe I'll post about it.
