How often do you clean your guns, /k/?
>>
>>30320078
1-2 times a year.
>>
Not often.
>>
>>30320078
looks like you didn't shoot your rifle very often, looks like new.
>>
>>30320081
Thats not a lot
>>30320088
why not?
>>
>>30320078
Every range trip if the thing had over 60 rounds, so probably 11~ times a year per firearm.
>>
>>30320100
They don't really need to be cleaned a lot and I only shoot a couple thousand rounds a year.
>>
>>30320095
I shoot every week, ~50 shots every time
I just clean it every time
>>
>>30320115
>50 shots every time
oh ok, you're one of those 300m sports shooting fags. you also wear those godawful shooting jackets?

Before a competition, when they start to fail, or if I just feel like it. Some probably go 6 months.

This one, never.
>>
>>30320124
Tried once, they don't really help though
>>
>>30320078
Never they're self cleaning
>>
>>30320133
the oldfags in my shooting club always take the piss because i refuse to wear one. when they put on their special snowflake shooting glasses i just want to shoot them in the face. the always laugh because i wear oakley shooting glasses, they think it's not necessary to wear eyepro.
>>
>>30320078
After most range trips and that's between 300 and 600 rounds.
>>
>>30320163
It don't wear any eyepro aswell, we have a little net which catches the ejected shells so they aren't even a problem
>>
after shooting or after playing with them so much they get dirty

Never.

depends but mostly at every 500-800round count.

Every six months sounds right. I cleaned this one last night actually, because this is how it looked after reassembly and it hurt my soul. Also didn't want to chamber rounds very well so I figured I'd give it a good cleaning and lubricate it.

That's one way to damage a rifle from overcleaning. Clean your raifu every 10,000 rounds if its the range and your firing non corrosive ammunition. If it was a hunting trip where it'll get easily exposed to the elements compared to the control environment of the range, then give it a light clean. Most big game rifles get cleaned every 100 rounds fired. I advise a light cleaning if firing corrosive ammunition.
>>
>>30320311
What type of coating does the barrel have?
>>
>>30320384
Titanium Nitride (TiN). Got it done for $80 total.
>>
>>30320372
What do you classify as a light clean?
>>
>>30320406
I'd guess standard field strip
>>
>>30320406
Standard field strip, and putting the parts in boiling hot water to remove the salts, followed by a light cloth wipe and some lubrication.

>How often do you clean your guns, /k/?

Once every few months. I tend to quickly run a boresnake through at the range and clear the feed ramp (if applicable) each range trip.

When I started shooting, I was religious at cleaning each range trip, but seriously, that's total overkill as long as you shoot non-corrosive ammo and store your guns in a dry place.
>>
About every 500-1000 rounds.

I do oil it more often.
>>
>>30320078
after every trip, just a field strip, wipe and apply new grease, and swab barrel.

thats it.
>>
>>30320115
Dont listen to those naysayer faggits. Clean your gun all you want, just make sure you use a coated one-piece, rotate-able cleaning rod and go chamber to muzzle through and through, without dinging the crown on the outstroke.

Or go the easy way, buy a muzzlecap, and go muzzle to chamber, and not have to worry about hitting the crown.

Use only Outers Nitro Solvent, and switch to Hoppe's #9 WITH Copper solvent every 3-5 trips for the barrel. Oil should be Outers Gun Oil and grease should be TW-25b. Everything else is overpriced snakeoil (besides brandname military CLP, if you want this, buy the big .50Cal squirt bottle because it tends to be most cost effective)

A black StGw 90 in the netherlands? How?
>>
Rifle? After shooting, because corrosive ammo.
Rest? When I feel like it.
>>
>>30320559
Only malfunctions I have had was a failure to ignite (bad ammo) in normal conditions, in training as weaponsmechanic we went throug all possibilities which could fail. The most impressive was a defect, a bit abrasive seriefire clinque causing the rifle to fire full auto until shot out by just inserting a mag and pushing the boltcatch down.

Any advice for shotguns? working with a used Rem 870 and unfastening the bullpup housing is a pain; put some fancy-dancy rust preventative 'shells' into the barrel and tube, need to replace them in august or next spring. I have remington brand cleaner/solvent and a can of CLP gifted to me by a friend's father after we went down south to pay the family and land a visit. Working on a guess, but breaking out the gun on the trip down, the mechanism siezed slightly after three rounds and a spritz of CLP fixed the issue, thinking the antirust bits are drying out the internals and causing the issue, but I'm not sure.
>>
>>30320559
>you guys ever have any malfunctions with those SG's?

Literally, never.
Of course, it stomps out brass with rage & furious anger each time, so it's really no surprise. The fixed ejector dents the case, but makes sure ejection is forceful.

>>30320344
>Its the only Pistol i have besides my .22 atm what am i suppose to post?

No shame in posting Sphinxes. ;)

>>30320601
>A black StGw 90 in the netherlands? How?

Belgium. And it's an Sig 551 SB (or SG551SWAT). Semi, of course.
No issue in getting it here.
>>
After every range session. And once a month for less used guns
>>
Every time I shoot it. I use nylon brushes and light solvents because of the lack of buildup due to disciplined cleaning. I dont even use a guide rod anymore just a patchworm.

Theres no way youre going to damage your shit evertime you shoot and clean it unless youre using rods and metal brushes and going nuts. Its not needed

Dude, what?
It's a Sig 551 SB, civilian version (semi) made by SAN SwissArms. There's a large difference in barrel length & you can identify it by the handguard:
Round slots = 552 or 553
3 rectangular slots = 551
5 rectangular slots = 550
If the barrel stops near the handguard = SB
If there's an extra long barrel with a gas seal for the rifle grenades = LB
(note: 550 is LB only, so they drop that in the name)
>>
>>30320644

>>

what does this mean?

worn down or broken disconnector?
worn down hammer / trigger sear contact points?
Thats my guess anyway. So in those weaponmechanic courses, did you guys ever discuss why it doesnt have a chrome lined barrel?

>>30320633
this is a shoop, rite?

>>30320640
what do you mean anti-rust? if its shit that comes on a cloth, dont use it inside, only on the outside surfaces. its like some kind of sticky tar. just use non-chlorinated brake cleaner and spray the whole inside of the thing down, wipe every surface you can, spray it down again, and then oil the shit outta it and put a light coat of grease on anything that slides.

>>30320644
>looks like a milled AK47 inside
niceeeee. I wish I could get one over here, but I cant see paying $2000+ for a ~9lbs rifle in 5.56 with almost no accessories and not to mention, unobtainium expensive mags.

>>30320681
>I use nylon brushes
No. Use brass bore brushes always. Nylon cannot clean the right-angles of where the lands meet the grooves properly.
>>
>>30320760
I mean since 2000 Sig is not a swiss company anymore. Any association with Switzerland, swiss firearms, swiss craftsmanship, and so on have to be dropped.
>>
>>30320764
It's some orange foam shit that comes in a shotshell-shaped twist-open canister, fits 12ga, supposed to disperse a vapor that binds up moisture and prevents oxidation of metals.
>>
>>30320764
Dont know what the name is in english. Seriefeurerklinke. In the trigger has like two little plates inside. If the one responsible for the disconnect/catching of the hammer is worn down (physicaly and practicaly near impossible).
>>
>>30320786
If its called Rust-eProof or sum shit, it turns like tar and will gum shit up.
>>
>>30320547
Moly EP grease works fine for me. That's the recommendation I've received from Swiss shooters for the K31, but I use it on all my guns.
>>
>>30320800
*Seriefeuerklinke goddamn it i cant even write german anymore, damn that baguette deployment.
>>30320764
Also no. Strangely this was never spoken about.
>>
>>30320800
ya, the plate that sits on top the trigger is the disconnector, and catches the hammer when in semiauto.

I think all SAN SwissArms branded ones have that. Not the Sig Sauer "sporting" ones.

>Cool, good purchase.

Well, at current pricing, I wouldn't have bought it.
I bought it at 2100 euros, now they go for 3250 euros easily due to SAN SwissArms bumping up the export pricing. As much as I love this gun, it's not worth that much to me. You can get a SCAR or build a stellar AR15 for less, even in europe.

>>30320764

It's stamped though. But I get the comparison.

Hardly ever. Remoil and boresnakes like a poorfag.

I take all my blued guns out once every week or two to check for rust and oil as necessary

Der Bereich „Handfeuerwaffen“ wird von der Lüke & Ortmeier Gruppe übernommen und in SAN Swiss Arms AG firmiert.
As in germans bought the company. Its not swiss anymore.

They're still produced in Switzerland, at the same place as they always were. They got bought out by germans, sure. But what large company isn't somehow owned through other companies nowadays?

I can't tell the difference between original swiss SIG manufactured ones and swiss SAN SwissArms ones. Except that the most recent ones have slightly improved furniture.

Trigger, finish, etc are all the same.
>>
>>30321050
Quality definetly became subjectively worse. All variants since 2000 have a worse surface quality, worse barrel, cheeper polymer, and so on.
>>
>>30321106

For the handguns, yes, I've seen that.
But the rifles? Nah, I've seen them side to side, shot them side to side, I can't see the difference.
>>
>>30321123
You start noticing it once youve taken apart thousands of them, vigoroisly cleaning them and regreasing them. The fine changes in surface, the marks of the milling, the pointwelding, the feel of the polymer.
>>
>>30321188
