As long as you are not in the city limits and have significant amount of land to shoot on all you need is a good enough backstop. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the sheriff comes out for noise complaints if you have asshole neighbors. I usually showed them the range and back stops when they come out and let shoot my ump and they leave happy and tell the person that called to fuck off.

I would say it more depends on what is behind your backstop rather than land size. I know people who have ranges on two acres. But the only thing behind their backstop is 80 acres of corn.

You can talk to them before hand and let them know what you are doing., I live right down the road from a high school and I shoot probably sometimes 2000 rounds in a day while school is going onand the most thats ever happened is the sheriff's have come out. They come and ask what's going on and I'll show them the backstop and the range and I usually let them shoot a couple of my guns and they leave smiling.

I wouldn't say rich but I make a good income and guns are pretty much one of my only hobbies so I spend a lot on it. Another tip for you guys wanting your own range find a local custom metal fabricators and they can get you 1/2in ar500 steel by the sheet. Then you can get the plans for targets online and they can make you them for a fraction of the cost. I got full side idpa torsos made for $65 a peice when they are 500 something online
