> Not Fox 3

The 80's called, they want their technology back.
>>
>>30314094

shockingly this is more accurate than you'd think. there's notch ranges and recommits and shot validations and such but otherwise it's not too bad.

>>30314948

we were shooting AIM-7's well into the 90's. the Navy still has 'em.
>>
>how has dog fighting changed
you used to fly sorties against pilots where you got close enough to see them sitting in their canopy, trying to keep blood from staying in your boots trying to maintain the throttle and rudder while looking over your shoulder to make sure you come back home alive. you were fighting against a human being, its called a dog fight for a reason

now you shoot a heat seeking missile towards the horizon at a blip on the radar

Learn what terms mean before you make yourself look fucking stupid.

For practice to expend the AIM-7 stocks maybe. Southern Watch and Allied force were completely AMRAAM shows.

Sea Sparrow and ESSM are a completely different breed from AIM-7's, and the guys operating them certainly don't call "Fox 2".
>>
>>30315426

there's recent Hornet Ball videos that show AIM-7s carried.
>>
I'm guessing it's faster

WW2 dogfights were the arena of men. Anything after is the arena of boys who can push a button. WW2 was the last great era of flying aces.

How about Korea ? It always seems overlooked.

>jets dogfights
>no relevant A2A missiles or radars

Shit looks so cash
>>
>>30318279

In the instance that dogfighting does take place in the modern age, a combatant will only be able to take down 1, maybe 2 targets with guns as ammunition would be depleted almost instantaneously

you still need to manouver hard and go 4x the speed you did at ww2.
You're just not doing it close to another plane and your chance of dying is bigger because missiles are far more effective.
You need multible bursts of bullets to take you down.
Only one missile not even properly hitting you is enough for you to go down.
It's not "wew who pushes button first wins" Manouvering is as important as ever.
>>
>>30319918
Hate to burst your bubble Anon, but modern missiles have a much higher G force capability than a pilot ever will. Maneuvering means nothing when a Sidewinder can turn inside everyone of your maneuvers. Electronic warfare reigns supreme in the air today. You stay alive by jamming the enemy harder than they're jamming you while having missiles that are harder to jam than what the enemy can output.
>>
>Be navyfag
>be bored at home and start up C:MANO
>Create three way dog fight with Russia, USA, China
>Only give USA growlers
>russia and china get 5 su-27/j-17's
>load up growlers with nothing but jamming
>watch as growlers zoom around trying to get guns on the other two sides, as they fire shit wildly with no effect.

As retarded and unrealistic as that is, I cannot wait to see the clusterfuck that will be mid 21st century electronic warfare
>>
>>30320103
EW is like two guys taking roids before a fight, but they never actually fight so you just get to hulk like monstrosities that nobody really knows what to do with anymore.
>>
>>30313816
Then and now, if you spot the enemy first, you have the advantage. When the gun was your only weapon, it was more important to have an airplane that was faster, could out climb, and out dive the enemy to engage or disengage at will. Today, it's impossible to outrun a missile. It is more important to get the first shot, forcing the other guy on the defensive. Agility became more important because of this. Now with helmet mounted systems and off-boresight missiles, agility (while still important) is not the overriding factor in aircraft design. It can be balanced with a big capable radar, low observable shapes, and electronic warfare to ensure the first shot.
