That's pretty much how it goes, op. I signed last February, same way as you. I was told to pick 3 jobs I wanted, I picked infantry, fire support (forward observer), and armouser. I got what I wanted (0300). As for being a rifleman you can pick that once you get to itb.

They try to bully you tell them you're not in the service yet and if they want to fuck with your contract they can get fucked cause you have every right as a civilian to walk the fuck out.

They assign your MOS at the recruiting station and if there aren't slots available immediately then you get put on a projected DEP for when that slot will be available, however many months in the future it is.
If they don't give it to you there you don't do a damp thing else at MEPS.
Don't do any more MEPS visits or hotel stays. Go back to the recruiting station and tell that recruiter if they want to see the bonus for hitting quota and you completing your training and getting to your unit, that fucking squid will fix that shit t-t-t-to-fucking day.

If you want to do crazy shot my two suggestions are the following:
Fix your USMC contract and join up.
Or if that doesn't work out another option

Talk to an Army recruiter, tell them you want to join as either an 11B or 68W with option 40. 11B is infantry, 68W is combat medic.
Option 40 is Airborne Ranger contract.
You go to BCT, then AIT/OSUT depending on which of the two choices you make.
Then you go to airborne then to RASP.
I know you may think USMC BCT is going to be difficult, trust me it's not.
The biggest thing for RASP (ranger assessment and selection program) is get along with your peers and don't fucking quit.
If you get recycled 3 or 4 times it doesn't matter. DO NOT QUIT.
Complete 4 years as a babby eating gook gutting Ranger.
Drop a selection packet for SF.
Same applies here. DO NOT QUIT. get along with your peers and do your job. Don't be a sick up, but be helpful.
Complete 4-6 years in SF as a greenie beanie.
Drip a CAG packet and a JSOC packet.
You will get to know the right people by then, branch out and talk to people. Build raport.
During those selections, you need to have your mind and body in peak shape. It's no longer about being liked and not quitting. These are purely based on your individual performance.
Only the best are wanted. There is no shame in not making it in, not everyone can be part of the 1%.
From there, a whole new world of colors and letter/number ID'd task forces will have their doors open to you where you will become the things that haunt the minds of *bad men* and make them piss themselves publicly.

Not op but I just got back from the army recruiter and they told me most 11b/11c have to volunteer and that only once in a blue moon do the see 11x opt 40 contracts. From googling around my option seem to be:

Chance of option 40 contract at the beginning of next fiscal year

Delayed entery program extend till I find an option 40 for a year

Chance to get option 40 at meps/ extend wait time to find one

try to get option 40 if in a different state/ recruitment area

Call recruiting operation center to see if something hasn't been posted

11x with option 4 volunteering for rasp with high pt scores
