You are trapped on a dangerous island filled with dinosaurs, who would you rather be on the island with you
>Roland Tembo and his big ego and his .600 nitro express double barrel rifle

Or

>Robert Muldoon and his lack of skill and spas-12
>>
>>30304844

>big ego and an even bigger gun
thats exactly what you need in an island willed with dinos
>>
>>30304931
But he's just going to end up eating you killed. And also when you're on the island I forgot to mention you are there for 3 days. Tembo may know how to kill, but he doesn't know anything else about the dinos

true, but muldoon knew and he got btfo. not only that, he lost a man during transport, knew that the raptors were testing the fences for weaknesses, knew the two beta raptors followed the big bitch raptor, and still got btfo.
>>
>>30304844
Robert. Kill him, leave his bloodied body, take SPAS, barricade for 3 days. I'd be fine.
>>
>>30305054
now that i think about it, the best companion would be that kid from jp 3. shitty movie but he did survive by himself for a week or something
>>
>>30304844
>Robert Muldoon
>Lack of skill
OP literally what
He knew his shit. He was the one who demanded heavy Weapons against the dinosaurs.
The only reason he died was because the Velicoraptors where too damn smart.
>>
>>30305118
Dude. That kid was there for months AND saved Dr. Grants ass.

That being said I'd probably be just as well of as both the retards OP posted by myself because I have zero obligation to protect anybody or restart dumbass electrical grids that don't have a backup so I could just chill in a bunker or climb a tree and blast away at whatever's chasing me if shit goes south.
>>
>>30305054
But he only lost because of lack of power like>>30305120 said. Also I just remembered in the book Muldoon survived because instead of spas he used a law
>>
>>30305182
Those are the scenarios of the movie, I'm saying that you crash land on to the island or whatever and need three days for rescue. You were good friends with either Muldoon or Roland. Also the third movie was retconned wasn't it?
>>
>>30305219
The kid only survived because of plot holes.

fuck raptors.jpg
174 KB, 1687x919
Both have their advantages and disadvantages

Roland's .600 could drop anything on the island, but it's just a double barrel so if you're dealing with multiple dino's at the same time you could be fucked

Muldoon, while he died, was extremely knowledgeable about the dinos on the island, where Roland could hardly pronounce their names. His spas-12 would be fairly handy in dealing with most hazards, save super predators like the t-rex

Both of their prowess as hunters, and by extension their aim should be great, unless a raptor just jumped on them (Muldoon)

In the end I'd rather go with Muldoon, while they both are good, I'd take my chances with a lone T-rex on the island who's teeth could easily pierce my heart or crack my skull than be ambushed by a pack of 5 raptors, that slash at my guts to spill my intestines out.
>>
>>30305578
Book had better everything, Spielberg's JP is incredibly overrated. And the sequels suck.
>>
>>30305436
>0/10 gayest dinosaur ever

I remember that thread, and this shit gets me every time.

I think the OP had posted a hypothetical regarding being hired by a multi-trillionaire to hunt a brachiosaurus without damaging it externally (so it could be made into a trophy) given a certain budget.
>>
>>30305322
yeah, raptors had feathers, they used their wings to keep themselves upright as they clung to large prey and could continue to bite and slash at it
>>
>>30304844
Muldoon, In the real story he wins
>>
>>30305436
I can't take what that guy says seriously about his knowledge on dinosaurs when he mentions the "Brontosaurus" in a serious sentence.
>>
>>30305645
They were also incredibly small and no more dangerous than a bald eagle.
>>
>>30305645
Correct, they were also the size of turkeys, and most likely the smartest velociraptor was equal to an average turkey.

Now I'm not trying to play down the danger a pack of these creatures could possess, but I have a good feeling that if you blasted one of these with even birdshot, it'd not only take it down but make the pack piss themselves and run away.
>>
>>30305683
a turkey with the mind of a monitor lizard and the pack instincts of low-tier canines, more like. Imagine a group of mini cassowaries actively trying to fuck your shit up.

Shit would absolutely ruin your day; the fact that they were small would only make it worse since they would be a harder target to hit and they could pursue you easily through dense undergrowth.

Even better if you never knew about the book. Either way goldbloom rocked that shit
>>
>>30304844
I'll stick to the book and choose Muldoon.

> He also recommended that the park be equipped with more military grade weapons for use in emergencies, but was overruled.
> He reminds Hammond of this when it dawns on them that they have no way of stopping the escaped T. rex.
> Muldoon spends most of the novel riding around the park, drinking whiskey and attempting to restore order.
> He is later attacked by a pack of Velociraptors, but survives by wedging himself into a pipe.
> He manages to kill a few of them, and eventually escapes the island with the other survivors.
>>
>>30305756
The only parts of that movie that are really dated are the brachiosaurus scenes, which look really cheesy by today's standards. The T-Rex and raptors were done well because the animatronics and CGI were always obscured to create suspense and let you fill in the blanks with your imagination. Compare them to the Star Wars prequels or the edited OT with all the in-your-face CGI that looks like PS2 graphics now.

After a quick google search it appears paleontologists might change their mind again....however during the time of that users post that Brontosaurus wasn't a real dinosaur and was actually just a different age group of Apatosaurus.
>>
>>30305914
Not him, but the brontosaurus was actually a mistake/hoax dinosaur created when paleontologists put the skull from one dino on another's body. The proper name for that dinosaur with the correct skull is the apatosaurus.

Robert Muldoon? I don't think he's touched a shotgun in his whole life, would definitely pick the other one.
>>
>>30305962
Not true anymore as I mentioned in the above reply, it turns out they were right initially in that Brontosaurus is a valid dinosaur. HOWEVER, at the time of that users post, it wasn't considered accurate, so my point is that the guy who claimed to have done a "Lot of thinking" on hunting dinosaurs can't be taken seriously when he names fictional dinosaurs and uses them in a serious situation.
>>
>>30305941
IIRC the raptors in the movie are based on troodon, but they decided "velociraptor" sounded less gay.

They seem more like deinonychus than troodan, but to be fair, that dinosaur wasn't discovered until AFTER the movie.
>>
>>30305990
>>30305983
Actually they were based on velociraptors but Spielberg said fuck the feathers that's gay, when people were upset he said they didn't have feathers. Then they discovered the utahraptors which didn't have feathers and he said that that's what he was going for. Or it was the other way around or something like that
>>
>>30306032
So wait, you're telling me that Spielberg had access to discovers from 1995 in the period from 1990-1993, or that people from the future came back and told him to change his mind and that the actual paleontologist, Jack Horner, was a hack who didn't know about a 1995 research that wasn't even agreed upon until 2000/2001 in mainstream paleontology?
>>
>>30306068
No I'm saying Spielberg based it on the one with feathers but decided to do them without feathers, and after the movie was made they discovered the one without feathers and Spielberg spewed some bull shit about how that's what he meant to base it off of
>>
>>30306087
What he's referring to is that feathered dinosaurs were still disputed in the 90s, in fact the dinosaur you're talking about didn't have any fossil evidence of feathers until 2007.
>>
>>30306140
That's what I'm saying. In 07 he stated that those were the raptors that he meant to put in the movie. And people are it up
>>
>>30306158
That's actually not what you said, but alright.
>>
>>30305543
Shot guns unless with magnum loads, are probably not going to do much against a dinosaur.
>>
>>30306181
Most dinosaurs were the size of a horse, but the main threat in ALL JP movies are raptors. But if we use the REAL velociraptor, we're talking about animals the size of turkeys. Birdshot is enough.

You're forgetting that most carnivorous dinosaurs were theropods, they had a weaker skeletal structure. They were fairly weak and frail opponents, even the big ones.

Those INGEN guys in TLW with all those weapons and equipment would have been able to clear the entire island in less than a week if they wanted to.
>>
>>30306200

Punt guns don't fire large shot, just huge loads of birdshot.
>>
>>30306243
If someone said to you "ive done a lot of thinking on guns and I've decided that ar47s (Referring to ar-15s) are just too deadly for the average user cuz if they hunted deer with that round they'd tear it to bits!" The point I'm making here is that for someone who supposedly did a lot of thinking on the subject doesn't seem to know much about it.
>>
Can I take both and add Owen Grady to the mix?
>>
>>30306140
when Crichton was writing the book in the late 80s wasn't the Raptor he based the Velociraptors in his book on(Deinonychus I believe) considered a subspecies of Velociraptor? And then they changed their mind later?

And of course the feather stuff wasn't really in the picture yet

That's the problem with trying to write accurate Dino fiction, paleontology is constantly changing and in flux with new discoveries and theories

>>
>>30306278
That's an absolutely absurd metaphor, as his information wasn't that far off. By normal standards, he was correct at one point, wrong for a short window of time, then correct again. That's closer to someone saying

>".22lr is affordable and very easy to find!"
>"Actually no because sandy hook (=dino discovery)"
>Time passes
>".22lr actually is affordable and easy to find!"

Not the best metaphor, but alot better than your "ar47"mockery.
>>
>>30306337
Popular media which was, at the time he had researched (I.e. probably long before his post), in keeping with scientific discovery WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE CONSISTENT.

Some were. others, not so much.

You also need to forgive them for not sticking feathers on everything. the theory for feathers was not all that widespread when the film came out. and by the next film they already had an image to stick with.

it's funny though. after the design team were done with the raptors for the first film paleontologists discovered a Raptor that fit the description of the one they made.

Crichton met with the discoverer of Deinonychus, John Ostrom, several times at Yale University to discuss details of the animal's possible range of behaviors and appearance. Crichton at one point apologetically told Ostrom that he had decided to use the name Velociraptor in place of Deinonychus because the former name was "more dramatic". According to Ostrom, Crichton stated that the Velociraptor of the novel was based on Deinonychus in almost every detail, and that only the name had been changed
