Looking through my M855 rounds I've noticed some of them have these dents in the brass casing.
With these still fire normally without problems or should I avoid using them and why?
Video kind of related but this is after they have been fired

They will fire fine and be completely safe. Bonus! The dent will be gone after firing unless your rifle is overgassed and smashing them on your brass deflector.

Wow, I was not expecting that answer.
So at what point short of a 90 degree bend would a dent in a bullet casing make it unfit for use?

This is correct. I had the same exact problem on my ar and it was due to the brass hitting the deflector. I reload have a brass catcher though so I just repositioned the catcher to block brass from hitting the deflector. The damaged brass reloaded and shot fine as well.

I wouldnt call them completely safe man. OP- run your fingernail down the case, if it catches, that means the brass has been compromised. there is a cut, a weak spot in that brass. If it is just a dent or soft bend that is no issue and will fire form out, but desu, I wouldnt reload most of those cases. 223 brass is cheap enough (can be found for under 5 cents a piece once fired LC) that I wouldnt risk it. they will likely be just fine for a few reloads, but if/when they fail, that is a really bad spot to fail.
To remedy this in the future, put a little piece of adhesive velcro on the corner of the case deflector on your rifle.

sadly, I have been cruising the forum since 2008... Got addicted to the mindless banter and now I'll just pop on every now and then and look to see if any newbies need reloading help. peanut butter

>overgassed
What length gas system is OP using, and what weight recoil buffer?
>>30300404
dent is from smacking on your brass deflector

What if they just came out of the box dented?

Judging by the OP, this is concerning unfired rounds, the picture and video display fired cases though causing confusion.
It is true about simple dents in factory new ammo not being a danger. It'll just fireform to the chamber.

Thread finished then I guess.
ANSWER: dents in brand new bullets are no problemo unless it is punctured or breaking
OP, they will fire just fine and the dent will probably be gone after firing, too.
What worries me more with dents is a malfunction caused by the brass getting stuck in the chamber. If you are afraid of this, you can do the drop in test. After you have reloaded, drop the round in the chamber. It should drop in freely and then slide out by gravity alone when you tip the barrel upside down. If there is any problem with the round going in or out, I would discard that round. Of course, your chamber should be clean when doing this.
