"why did nobody answer my question?" edition

so, as a member of a country who is a part of the "visa waiver program", I´m allowed to buy a gun in the US?

I´m reffering to this text from the ATF
> https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/does-prohibition-receipt-and-possession-firearms-and-ammunition-aliens-nonimmigrant-visa

my second question is, if I´m a nonimmigrant alien (student) with a nonimmi-visa (student visa "type F") my only chance to own a firearm is by applying for a hunting license
BUT
if I´m from a country taking part in the VWP (see above) there is a special rule which I do not understand

here is the text I´m reffering to

> "Yes. An individual may apply to ATF for a waiver. [18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5)(B) and 922(y)(3); 27 CFR 478.11 and 478.32]"

I´m a bit confused now

from my understanding

> go to visit the US for 90 days
> VWP country
> go inna gunshop
> buy fun

> go study abroad in the US
> get hunting license
> go buy funs

> go study abroad in the US
> come from VWP country
> apply for waiver
> go inna funshop and buy stuff

pls help

the second link sounds interesting

> "Foreign nationals who do not fall under these two restrictions (such as many foreign travelers visiting the United States under the terms of the
Visa Waiver Program) are not prohibited from acquiring a firearm solely on account of their immigration status."

> "Nonetheless, other provisions in the
GCA, such as residency requirements that must be satisfied for a firearms sale to be lawful, may impede some foreign
nationals from acquiring firearms."

> may impede

sounds like a gray area to me
>>
>>30300576
>WASHINGTON—Assistant Senate Democratic Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) today introduced legislation to close a loophole in federal law that permits foreign nationals who have entered the United States through the Visa Waiver Program to buy and wield firearms. Current law prohibits visa holders from other countries from purchasing guns, but excludes travelers from the 38 Visa Waiver Program countries.

>For years, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives interpreted this provision to prohibit the sale of firearms to all foreign visitors, not just those visitors who required a visa to be admitted to the United States. In other words, the provision was construed to apply both to visaholders and to foreigners who visited the United States through the Visa Waiver Program. However, the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel reconsidered this interpretation in 2011 and determined that under the statute foreign nationals entering the country through the Visa Waiver Program could legally purchase firearms because they had not technically “been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa.”

i don't think he got anywhere with his bill.

If all goes well the next three weeks I will be leaving Illinois and moving to KY.

Is there anything I need to do while I establish residency? Are thee any laws or regulations about how I have to store my weapons in a home? Is there a limit on the amount of ammunition or reloading supplies I can store in a home?
I mean do I just load it all up here in the peoples socialist publlic and unload it at the new place...can it be that simple?

Can someone tl;dr the last week for me?

Thanks for your response

I can handle transportation of guns and ammo and guns and ammo related accessories.

I was concerned about having them in the new home while we established residency. There will be a one or two week window where we aren't residents yet have a nice collection of weapons and ammo. My almost paranoid concern comes from being a resident of Illionois so long. You can understand that.

What is considered intent when dealing with NFA items? plan on picking up a scorpion evo to sbr before 41f. The place i will probably order from also sells the sbr kits so i figured i would pick it up to save a bit on shipping. People have been arrested for less. I don't know if there have been convictions but the ATF tends to treat it as "constructive possession" and I'm not sure you want the legal headache. Sort of like having one of those totally-not-a-suppressor-wink-wink-nudge-nudge "solvent trap adapters" to attach a car's oil filter to the barrel of a rifle or pistol.

Solid plan. Also, the Democrats are currently filibustering...nothing, which is odd to say the least. Normally a party filibusters when they want to avoid passing a bill that the majority will approve, but right now there isn't a gun-control related bill. expensive, but ammo is available everywhere and will most likely not be affected by banning of ammo types (sports academy has said they will be limiting how much ammo you buy for ARs/AKs and youll have to do a back ground check plus have your information stored in their database from now on)

They have to be specifically approved to be sold by an FFL. Non-list guns can be bought and sold by private parties all fucking day.

I work security for AM General (company that makes Humvees) and literally do just sit on my ass browsing 4chan and watching movies all day, although I am unarmed and only make $9.60/h.

There are a couple acquaintances I know that try a little too hard to be manly men and one of those ways is always talking about guns and their time at the range. One of them even has taken out and showed his concealed carry pistol around the room on multiple occasions. He thinks because they're mounted to the left of the magazine that it would make it inaccurate, he thinks that the sights aren't perpendicular to the barrel, they're at an angle which is set to converge at range.
I think that they're like normal sights, just shifted a few fractions of an inch to the left.

Wondered if anyone could clear it up.
(shit picture included).

I'm going out tomorrow to buy my first handgun, with CWP in mind.

I've fired plenty, and I love the shield. My only problem is I don't know if I should go with 9mm or .45

I've fired both, and I'm a bigger guy so I don't have trouble with recoil. I was slightly more accurate with the 9mm, but I've shot more 9mms than .45s, and I am planning on shooting my Shield at least once a week for a few months to get as skilled as I can (then probably go at least once a month).

So, any Shield owners here wanna give my any advice? Which way should I go?

they appreciate unless it was discontinued for being a piece of shit. even if it was a pos some people will want em for novelty value. the only guns that immediately depreciate are budget models, pumpshotguns, and anything modded

>>
>>30313312
>Do guns appreciate or depreciate in value after being discontinued?

It depends upon the gun and how old it is. Generally things (cars, for instance) will depreciate short to mid term after being discontinued, and then later appreciate as they become more valuable to collectors that care less about parts availability and things of that nature.

Things that are just inherently shitty will hold their value, but something that's well made, functional, and kept in good condition will always have value to someone regardless of whether it's outmoded by newer models or whatever.

Things that are all of the above, while being produced in small numbers, are true collector items.

>Tried selling my CZ and somebody told me they were discontinued and lowballed me.

He's just a nigger trying to sucker you into giving him a deal. CZ 75B (I'm assuming) isn't discontinued, and even if it were, they have a huge aftermarket supply so it isn't like you're selling a gun that has no parts available.

They specifically discontinued the Omega model, which was just the 75b with a stronger, more easily removed trigger.

Some things I see as positives, and they replaced it with an ugly ass 75bd "Omega" convertible that looks like shit.

Personally I think there will be people that want the Omega over this new gay ass Omega and I would think it may appreciate in value but seeing as how they don't make them maybe I should just hang on to it.

Some videos I've seen say you need to have the item already for it's serial number...but if you already have the item then what's the form and payment for? Maybe that video was about trusts and not buying NFA stuff.

Or is it the more logical you have to do the forms and payment, then you can buy the NFA stuff?

Hey komrades,

I'm a long time lurker and a first time poster. I know that the general opinion on this board is that the Yugo SKS is a well crafted weapon. I have the opportunity to purchase a non-rearsenal M59/66 version from top gun supply http://www.topgunsupply.com/yugoslavian-sks-rifle-7.62x39mm-grade-a.html

My question to you all is, is this something that I should not pass up on? I've never owned a rifle before, but I do own a shotgun. Would this be a good first rifle to practice and learn shooting skills? Any advice, help, or personal experiences with this rifle, or even from shopping experiences with top gun supply would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

i've found them to have incredibly good deals on blackpowder guns, both repros and originals. but flintlocks command a bit more and the last gun auction i went to a week or two ago the prices were creeping up. i'd say if you can find one within an hours drive that listed the type of thing you were interested in it'd definitely be worth checking out

I thought that it was a little pricy as well. I had just assumed that because it had not been reissued it would have retained its value. Am I better off saving my money for a new rifle instead? Am I better off waiting for a cheaper SKS to come up? I know that I would like to own one at some point, and I don't feel as though they will all disappear, but I thought this particular rifle would be unique, and will the prices drop at any point?

I just got a huge pay raise, and have decided to buy my first gun.

Any recommendations?

>I live in Commiefornia
>I'm new to guns and want something inexpensive to shoot so I can get a good amount of range time to practice
>I don't plan on buying a 2nd gun anytime soon (family is very noguns and I want to gradually ease them into it) so I'd like something with utility off the range (self defense is most important right now, followed by hunting small game)
>I have a weird fetish for reliability and durability. While I will love and cherish and protect my gun, I want something that I can depend on to go through hundreds or thousands of rounds in wet, cold, dirty, muddy, dusty conditions. To me this is well worth sacrificing some accuracy.
>I'd like some sort of semi-auto before the bans come, but I could be persuaded otherwise.
>Budget is in the $500 ballpark, although I could go up to $750 depending on the item.

You've never steered me wrong before /k/. What should I get?
>>
>>30317930
Forgot to mention, something unintimidating is a plus. I'd like to take my girlfriend and brother to the range with me sometime, and anything liberals consider scary would give them pause. I want my first gun to be a friendly gun.

Why do so many people use 9mm for self defense? Seems like it'd be like bringing a knife to a sword-fight. People can walk off those rounds, or stay alive for long enough to kill you. It'd be like poking a bear.
>>
>>30319467
I'm no gun expert, but I'm assuming the military and police know what they're doing, and they all use 9mm. 9mm also allows hand guns to be pretty small while retaining a relatively large magazine.
For personal defense you can use whatever the fuck you feel comfortable using though. If you want to cc a .50 caliber revolver you're free to do so, I'm assuming.
>>
>>30319490
Police magdumps. As for military the pistol is just a sidearm. Don't know why they chose 9mm.

>>30314511
For a suppressor you have to buy it from a dealer and then submit the Form 4. You won't be able to take possession until the stamp is approves and arrives.

For Form 1, take an sbr AR for example: Building it yourself, you will need a serialized lower to submit the form. You can build a pistol out of the parts until your stamp arrives, but be careful having that short barrel and other stripped lowers and/or stocks laying around.

When in the prone position, you don't need to have your left hand supporting the handguard since you can deploy the bipod legs, so you can use the left hand on the rearward grip to assist with aiming and support while on automatic.

Additionally, you can change magazines without much disturbance to your position since you're already supported by the bipod and shoulder support.

Got several cleaning related questions for everybody here:

What does a brownish patch or 2, then all regular black patches down a stainless steel barrel mean after a several month storage wait mean? Actually, the brownish patches showed up before I stored it, and they still show up now, except that it's now followed by black patches after the first two.

Talking about a Del-Ton DT Sport 5.56 which has a stainless steel barrel.
I am comparing it to a brand new Colt LE6920 which has a chrome-lined barrel, and when I run the patches through, I only get black patches from it. Ran 100 patches through the damn thing and there's still small streaks of dark stuff coming through.

And that brings me to the second question:

Why is it that a brand new Colt gets 100 Hoppes patches run through its barrel and you still get those slight black streaks on it? It's like it won't disappear.

I'm getting really discouraged about gun ownership in that I can't seem to properly maintain my guns. I've watched Youtube vids countless times, and they all say you stop when the damn patches come out completely white. That has never happened in the 3 years I've owned and cleaned guns.

Used Slip 2000 EWL for both barrels. Only have used Slip 2000 EWL throughout my entire gun ownership life.

I've used the brass bore brush before.

My method goes like this:

I have not seen my Del-Ton, or even the Colt, get a clean pure white clean patch come out of it. Even after 100+ pass throughs.

If you have your green card, or proof of residence and are not visiting or working on a non-alien visa
OR
have some kind of us hunting licence

If you wanted to bring firearms bought into the US to Canada on a permanent basis and they are Restricted class you need to have an importer do it for you. (Irunguns, aztech armory and prophet river offer this service). If its NR you can file the paperwork yourself.

Hi friends. My brother is deployed somewhere right now and has requested I buy a rifle for him. He said he didn't want me to build it for him or anything, but would rather I just get one at the local gun show.

He wants a complete AR, with a couple hundred rounds of food.

Should I just find the biggest tent and get ripped off? I'm using his money, but I don't want to pay more than I really should.

I guess I just need some advice on buying from a show. I've only ever built my own setups, never really gone the mainstream route.

>>30333229
Why doesn't he want you to build one? If he's worried about your ability to put it together properly, I'd just do complete lower + complete upper.

Failing that, look around for complete setups from the usual brands, I guess.

So, any places offering good pistol/carbine training inna Illinois/Indiana/Wisconsin area? Would like a weekend intro course, high round count a plus insofar as it translates to more guided practice. Missed Massad Ayoob's class while he was in town.

Does somebody have a prepper guide for a disease outbreak? Medical gloves, face masks, disinfection, setting up quarantine and stuff like that.

"Containment" got me paranoid, although the series kind of sucked.

I do. Theres a thread on /toy/ for plastic models and we're more than happy to answer questions there
>>
>>30334589
Did some research myself. So the minimum you should have are face masks, enclosed eye protection, disposable gloves, bleach and antibacterial hand sanitizer, here is a longer list, including disposable overalls, lime (for provisional toilets or fluids in general) and water filters:

Apparently you can easily set up an isolation room with duct tape and plastic sheets.

Whats the danger of firing other .22 rounds out of a .22 LR rifle? Like short, magnum, etc.. Will it just be difficult to chamber or actually gun-breaking

I'm looking for an either classic or tactical style 1911 in .45ACP in the $600-$800 price range. Are there any decent options for this price range?

What's a good bipod to buy for an AR 15? Also any recommendations for silencers? Let's say my budget for a silencer is 800 and my budget for a bipod is 200. I may be willing to spend a little more if it seems worth it. Thanks for any advice.

What would gallium be like as a blade or pointed weapon? Sharpened enough it'd certainly be enough to actually stab someone with. What happens then?
It's gonna start melting inside of their body if it gets left there for more than a few seconds. As far as I know it isn't toxic, but having literal molten metal running round inside of you can't be healthy.

Anyone have a picture of an AR with the barrel totally encompassed in a free float handguard? They look like they fell out of Aliens.
>>
>>30334876
hmm good to see, i'm rather more prepared than that.
medical oxygen tanks in case i do get infected
(should get some iv fluids at some point)
light decon setup
better protective gear than they list
radio
backup battery power
muffled generator

i'd vastly prefer using an outbuilding to a taped off isolation room.

>>30335540
magnum won't chamber, and .22lr has some issues with magnum chambers, but you can shoot shorts, cb, etc. out of lr chambers. just make sure to clean it well after shooting shorter stuff.

>>30336345
as long as it isn't pitted it shouldn't be a problem

i wouldn't.

I'm collecting bullet cartridges. This pic is outdated, it's significantly larger now, but I'm looking for a way to grow it.
Is there a faster way to do it than hanging out at the range and looking around for loose cartridges, and a cheaper way than just buying a box of every new kind of ammo I come across?

I made a whole thread about this months ago and I had one anon I was talking to who was gonna send me a few in the mail and he never did.

What's the average value of these 2-hole style WWII pistol belts because this seems a tad high for something that looks like it smells like 20 years unwashed in a trunk.

>>
>>30300893

You don't need to be a resident of a state to possess firearms in that state.
>>
>>30339913
No, sometimes if the gun is illegal in your listed place of residence they will not sell it to you. Also some states have (essentially unenforceable) provisions about buying weapons out of state, so it's up to you.

Why do cartridges emit a distinct scent when fired? All of my ammo smells very different from each other, with my Barnaul .223 smelling particular nasty. I thought they all used similar powders.
