I ignore trips unless the trip needs to be, like a story where OP needs to trip for clarity.
Otherwise, I just don't see the need to know who someone is. I straight up refuse to waste memory on knowing anything about some anon on 4chan.

Anyone in the firearms industry was already prepared for this to be a panic year, or should have been if they weren't. It happens every election year, and with the way this race was going it was already set to be particularly bad.

Add on top of that increasing islam panic, and this shooting was just breath on the coals.

I don't know if we'll see a Sandy Hook level mass panic, but I think the market is going to be tough all year, and well into next depending on how the election goes.

I'm trying to decide if I should be the asshole that builds a couple of AR's right now for selling during market peak, or if I should just sit this one out entirely like I did the last two.

No one buys AR barrels without the extension already mated on.

Even shit-tier companies like Del-Ton manage to not have headspacing issues. Of all the things that can go wrong with a povertyfag AR build, headspacing isn't one of them.

>>

"No"
>>
>>30288288

It was worded badly but he's right. The way the chamber is reamed and the barrel extension installed is what determines headspacing, and even poverty tier barrels don't have issues with this.

Not having to worry about headspace is one of the nice things about the "AR platform" even though someone always spergs out about use of the term.

>>
>>30288305
>So why do I see so many videos of people with go/no-go gauges sticking their bcg into their barrel?
The same reason you see people using KNS pin retainers on non-9mm AR builds; snake oil is easy as shit to peddle in the gun industry.
>>
>>30288321
no, it's not. the barrel extension is only 1 part to a 2 part system that determines headspace. use your brain to figure out the other part....

>>30288325
prevalence or not is irrelevant. it is objectively true that bolts are just as important as the extension when it comes to headspace being correct.

do you know what tolerance stacking is? worn tools? it happens. and his post asked about non-poverty BARRELS.

he didn't say anything about bolts so you can't be sure he was going to use a budget bolt or not. so telling him it's fine is negligent.

Even budget bolts manage to be within the required tolerances of a proper headspace you dunce, the question with them is how long they'll last before they toss a lug, not if they can properly seal the chamber or not. A fucking chimp can make to-spec AR components now. Know where everyone and their dog get BCG groups from anyways? when they're working and set up properly and the tooling isn't worn the fuck out and the workpiece jig is correct yeah. it is orders of magnitude more accurate than the headspace requirements.

the precision of the machining is solely dependant on the operator of the machine. they dont set themselves up and they dont run themselves.

CHF or mandrel forming displaces barrel material into the bore to form the lands.

Button rifling displaces material out of the bore to form the grooves.

Cut rifling removes material from the bore to form the grooves.

There are good and bad barrel rifled with all three processes, the finishing dimensions the manufacturer holds them to on their setup and when air gauging is what separates them.

>>30289382
While CHF doesn't necessarily create better barrels, it does have less tool maintenance required to maintain proper dimensions so companies that have made the significant initial investment to get set up to mandrel rifle barrels have learned to advertise it as a "feature" and create hype to move more product.

S&W doesn't have a dumb marketing department, if it was CHF they would tell you. My bet is they are still button rifled.

It is a valid rifling process but the hard chrome lining is where your wear resistance is coming from.

If you wanted to be the king of longevity you should manufacture barrels with Stellite lining. Army experimented with it on machine gun barrels and it is phenomenal for wear resistance.

For a company churning out barrels without ultimate razor's edge accuracy as a concern, CHF wins with less tool maintenance.

The chrome lining will do that.

By the point you've worn through the chrome to get down to the marginally-harder-than-normal work-hardened barrel your barrel is many thousands of rounds past being completely shot out.

So....pretty much, yeah you fell for marketing hype.

Now, there is a (minor but statistically relevant) difference in barrel life between UNLINED 4140/4150 button rifled barrels and 4140/4150 CHF barrels. But like I said, it's minor. Maybe 2-3 thousand rounds over the ~25-30,000 round barrel life of a button-rifled carbon steel barrel.
