CHF or mandrel forming displaces barrel material into the bore to form the lands.
Button rifling displaces material out of the bore to form the grooves.
Cut rifling removes material from the bore to form the grooves.
There are good and bad barrel rifled with all three processes, the finishing dimensions the manufacturer holds them to on their setup and when air gauging is what separates them.

While CHF doesn't necessarily create better barrels, it does have less tool maintenance required to maintain proper dimensions so companies that have made the significant initial investment to get set up to mandrel rifle barrels have learned to advertise it as a "feature" and create hype to move more product.
S&W doesn't have a dumb marketing department, if it was CHF they would tell you. My bet is they are still button rifled.

It is a valid rifling process but the hard chrome lining is where your wear resistance is coming from.
If you wanted to be the king of longevity you should manufacture barrels with Stellite lining. Army experimented with it on machine gun barrels and it is phenomenal for wear resistance.

The chrome lining will do that.
By the point you've worn through the chrome to get down to the marginally-harder-than-normal work-hardened barrel your barrel is many thousands of rounds past being completely shot out.
So....pretty much, yeah you fell for marketing hype.
Now, there is a (minor but statistically relevant) difference in barrel life between UNLINED 4140/4150 button rifled barrels and 4140/4150 CHF barrels. But like I said, it's minor. Maybe 2-3 thousand rounds over the ~25-30,000 round barrel life of a button-rifled carbon steel barrel.
