small arm ammunition haven't changed much snice 1898
so as far as ammo go, every gun is obsolete

Still kills just fine.

I don't see you volunteering to get shot by a couple rounds of 7.62x39

I wouldn't let you shoot me with a minie ball either. Doesn't make his argument less valid.

Finland has mandatory military service for males (6 months, 9 months or 12 months). An ak based weapon, which is easy to shoot, maintenance (basic cleaning & oiling: dissemble 5 parts), is tough as hell and fairly accurate is pretty much the perfect weapon for a reserve army. It is a weapon made in Finland made for Finland. Also the 7.62 works well in the land full of thick forests.

Recently the Finnish Defense Forces updated the RK-62 with rails and an adjustable stock. The best god damn decision they've made in a long time.

Pic related.

>>30285925
They are still using 50 year old rifles no matter how much plastic you put on top of it.

Lmao.

So do we.
>>

It works bruh.

What else do you want from a service rifle?
>>
>>30285948
Are you implying that the US military uses guns from Vietnam era?
>>
>>30285925
That thing looks as heavy as your average feminist
>>
>>30285965
Basically the M16 and M4 series are the same based deriative rifle that was used since Nam, but with major improvements and ease of access to optics and attachments. The Finns are doing the same thing wih their Rk 62s since its heaper to modernize them over switching to the Rk. 95
>>
>>30286012
Yes but finns use guns that were actually made in the 60s. They havent made new guns in decades.

Because we can't afford to get the latest and the greatest stuff. Our military doesn't have a lot of money to spend.
>>
>>30286012
No that aren't. There were significant changes to the gas system and a myriad of other changes to the upper including modifying the feed presentation.

Are they the same gun? Of course. But we definitely did not just slap a rail on it.

finns and finnboos are so ass backwards. Don't forget they still use leather slings.
>>
>>30286034
>Yes but finns use guns that were actually made in the 60s
My rifle was made in 1988.
The very original rifles are long gone at this point.

Plus like said, RKs are technically milled AKs, with strict maintenance procedures enforced in the army. It's hard to break them, and you really don't need to "fix" something that isn't broken in the first place. I don't see yanks replacing their 60 years old weapon platform either, and somehow it's still more acceptable to use the more vulnerable AR design this day and age over all the other platforms out there.

>>30286155
next you're going to mention how silly it is that we still use cotton and wool clothing during modern days?
>>
>>30285806
I heard they still use it because their northern/arctic troops need a rifle which also works without hesitating in snow.
>>
>>30286034
And they still have replacement parts for the ones that wear. If it ain't broke, don't fix it
>>
>>30286190
We did replace it. It's called the M4 which fires ammunition that's essentially incompatible with the legacy M16s outside of bad breath distance.

What we don't need to do is adopt a new lower but that's only because we pioneered the concept and shit tier Europeans still haven't gotten it.

Most of them don't work though.

>We did replace it. It's called the M4
Yeah, literally a cut down M16 with adjustable stock. Still 1960s tech, just officially adopted as a standalone gun of its own in 90s.

Also assuming that Finns use the old M43 ammo this day and age is just showing your ignorance. We've used our own 7.62x39 loads for ages, with latest variants with better armor piercing statistics being adopted just back in the 90s.

I understand the appeal of the 2-part rifle design, but I don't get its point. Just how often do you actually swap barrels or entire caliber anyway? It's just one more thing more to teach to soldiers, one more thing to take into account.

>>
>>30285945
>>30285981

Weight is probably the only down side it has. However that is due to the fact that it's milled steel which happens to still be the most cost effective choice in the arctic climates. Your typical polymer used in most military rifles just don't cut it and everything that would be able to resist the damages made by the sudden and violent temperature changes (Such as are produced by the chemicals in the cartridge when fired) are too expensive to be bought and issued to 400 000 men.
>>
>>30286332
You're completely wrong and ignorant on the AR15 family. Finlands ammo selection has fuck all to do with my comment.

Even the lower forgings are different between the two.
>>
>>30285806
Does it kill a person? If yes, why replace it.
>>
>>30286447

This man knows what he is talking about.

Also most of your fucking poorfag tacticool AR-15s wouldn't even be half as reliable in finnish weather conditions, and that is a fucking fact.

why the fuck is using leather strings fucking inferior to using some kind of other fucking material? lol

>>

I can take a pic. Do you think you'll be able to handle someone having a non shit rifle?
>>
>>30286155
Dip a kevlar or other modern style (non-solid piece) sling in to a bucket of water and throw it into a freezer for a good 8 to 12 hours and try using it immediately afterwards. Then you'll know why finns prefer solid one piece leather slings over the more modern tacticool ones.
>>
>>30286747

take your fucking tumblr memes back to facebook you faggot, your rifle would fail in those conditions as would most and now gtfo
>>
>>30286155

so much summer
>>
>>30286704
ARs fail most arctic tests but are still used by the US military since they are not expecting to fight in those conditions. Finland on the other hand doesn't travel around god forsaken deserts blasting away sand peoples sand castles but are expecting to have a fight on their own turf which happens to be colder than most of the places US is expecting to fight..

That being said I'm getting an AR which is fine in colder environments if you only use it for shooting at a range or such. Leave it out during a winter blizzard for a day or two and try using after that as if your life depended on it and I promise you that you'll be praying hard for one of those old ugly and "unwieldy" AK variants.

The weather is kinda bitch mode to be honest senpai. I always fell for the OMG snow warrior so cold meme. Glad to know it's shit, like their country's poverty stricken service rifles.

Literally milder than my hometown. Not to mention the fact that the population is mostly huddled by the coast anyway.

It's not just the cold. You have to into account also the humidity + cold.

>Not to mention the fact that the population is mostly huddled by the coast anyway.

Most military operations and actions are expected to happen in the east far away from the cost. Here in Finland we have a saying: If the enemy comes from the west he has flanked us.

The Canadians and Danes have been using AR15 winterised derivates for years. Haven't heard complaints from them.

No, buying 100 2A6's for 200 million was.

ITT: Pointless debating about reasonably good rifle that does it's job.

I get it that we Finns defend Rk 62/95s till the end of the world, but we really shouldn't start bashing other rifles unless they really deserve it.

t.different
>>
>>30287025
Can't speak for Canadians but Danes don't even know what winter means and their military is pretty small in comparison to Finns.

As I already said in my earlier post >>30286447 RKs are the most cost efficient for the Finns to train and arm 400 000 troops on a moments notice. Winterized variants of the AR do exist but are considerably more expensive which makes them a very costly weapon to effectively issue to such huge numbers.

Now some our Americans friends with less than a half a brain cell left goes: "Hah! Arming 400 000 soldiers is nothing!" Considering we're talking about a country with a population of only five and a half million and has military budget relative to its size the cost becomes a huge thing.
