Hi /k/, I come to you with a problem tonight.

A friend of mine recently bought a set of night vision goggles from a private auction that I was unable to identify. I've seen a similar set before only once, with the seller claiming them to be soviet navy issue found from the previously-soviet Kiev-class aircraft carrier Baku, that was sold to India.

Google and other sources fail me, and I have no idea what goggles these are, what generation they are or how valuable they might be. The friend, knowing that I collect this kind of stuff, offered to sell them to me for what seems like a fair price, but I would like to know more before committing to any rash actions.

Experience with soviet militaria tells me that the glossy black color of the goggles would refer to early soviet NODs like the NSP3, and the color and texture of the brown leather strap hints about Poland or Czechoslovakia. There's a machine plaque on the bottom of the goggles, with cyrillic letters (From what I can make out, looks to be БИЦ , but I am not certain. Can't make out what's in the smaller text).

Needless to say, I am stumped, and I have come to you for aid. Also, a general night optics thread.

Pic related, it's the black goggles on the right I'm talking about.

Well judging by what I just learned here: http://www.dragunov.org.uk/NSP3/Page_1x.html

Those tubes are way too small to be NSP3
>>
Some pn57 variations?
>>
>>30276769
Totally not a NSP-3 variant, and my mistake, I meant NSP-2 with the color.

Kind of looks similar to pnv-57e, but not quite the right shape.

NSP-2 looks like a Gen 0 setup that needs an illuminator. I don't think that's right.

>>30276790
Some pn57 variant is my guess.

Does that tan one say "57A" on it?

PNV-57A might be it. Looks like PNV-57

Googling "russian submarine night vision" popped up the black ones right away.

(I searched "submarine" because I misread your comment...)

Not sure what the model name is yet though.

Here you go, comradski: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxzNOJspVxE
Looks like the seller was telling the truth or some part of it, it's a combo of binoculars and nvg intended for the navy.

Those are right on the money! Thanks by the dozen, as big as a horse but not as hairy.

I might just have to buy these if just to be a curiosity. I'm intrigued by the fact that not much is known about these things.
>>
I have no idea if this is true, but I'm reading rumors across the internet that say the early PNV-57's will emit X-Rays into your eyes.

Could just be an urban legend. Probably something worth researching, if you plan on using these often.

No. Night vision is not for poorfags. Take your SKS and leave.
>>
>>30277113
Where did you order it from?
Also does it work?
>>
>>30277244
I'm willing to spend 1-2 thousand. It's gonna be used with a MK18 Mod 0.

Got it from Apex. I briefly checked its functionality and the tube is alive and working, the reticle illuminates, but I have to wait until tonight to actually look at things in the dark.

PVS-14 on Ebay then

Don't be an ass.

>>30277173
...But he's not entirely wrong. night vision almost never comes cheap. Best pick for your purposes would be some of the cheaper Yukon or Bushnell monoculars. They are pretty good gen1 with built-in IR illuminators and at least the Yukon ones come with a head harness. They generally move in the 300$-600$ range.

Pic related is a Yukon NVMT spartan.

After reseating the reticle diode, it works great. Who would've guessed you could get two scopes, one that is NV, and a case, for the price of one!?
