Was it an indoor range? Indoor is great, but always less fun than outdoor mostly for noise reasons. .22 is a great way to get the hang of shooting, if you keep the hobby up the report and recoil will not bother you as much. I find that shots from those beside me always make me flinch for about the first ten minutes at an indoor range, but after that I stop noticing.
Except the guy that brought a .338 Lapua... holy crap that thing is unpleasant inside. The noise wasn't so bad, but the concussion from it was crazy.

Holy shit, I feel bad for you amerifriends. The first time I fired a firearm was with the age of 14. It was a semi-auto blue colored PE-90 (civie version of the Stgw. 90 or SIG 550) and I loved it. The recoil, the action of the weapon cycling, the brass hitting the floor with the distinct "cling", I fucking came.
When I cleaned the rifle I added extra grease to the barrel, so the next time I fired it had some extra nice muzzleflash, smoke and the smell... surely made me wish for non-stop warfare with full-retard annihilating firepower.
Fuck, I'll never forget firing this thing. Now I always sleep with my raifu by my side. Call me autistic, I don't care.
