If flocks were around back then I assure you we would have won just as quickly. There is literally no advantage AT ALL a 1911 has over a flock, in fact it has many disadvantages. The 1911 is a cool looking gun and not knocking anyone for wanting to own one but realise that if you choose it over a flick you're putting yourself at a disadvantage for the sake of aesthetics (I think flocks are actually pretty sexy if you really look at them). It's really no different than the dude who goes and buys designer jeans that are made like shit and look worse than the 20$ pair you can buy ar walmart. If you really want a 1911 go for it. I used to be in the same boat and was always looking to an alternative to glocks. Thought they were just super ugly and overhyped then I started watching some videos from the tactical response dude and looked at some up close videos of the flick and wow, they're actually pretty beautiful guns. The double stacked mag is pretty sexy and they blockiness of the gun is actually pretty aesthetic.

Trigger length can be changed with aftermarket
No retarded plastic sights
Slimmer
Heavier (reduces muzzle flip)
You can reduce rearward slide velocity with an oversized firing pin, which also reduces muzzle flip
Has safeties

This. I love my 1911, the way it shoots, the feel, all of it, but for home defense or carry, you want something reliable, compact, and with a high capacity. A full-size .45 is not that gun.
