Early "Hollywood" versions were just trash due to the crappy material used.
Later the design details were hammered out.
Improvements were added, however the AR-10 that was being sold to the army is just a up-scaled AR-15 rather than the improved version made by another company.
Thus, the SR-25 is actually an AR-15 up-scaled to take 7.62x51 NATO, as opposed to the original AR-10.
The AR-15 contains the basic details of the AR-10, but not the entirety of it.
However the modern M16 (i.e. select fire AR-15) has been battle proven and gone through several trials by fire till it was reliable enough to be used in the modern military.
