OP, new or not that rifle looks to be in good shape and if its clean and functions it doesn't matter if it was fired.
A colt AR with magpul sights and that handguard is probably retail right around $1100. The AR being $800-1000, sights $50-100 and handguard $75-150.
Why the variation in prices? Depends on where you are and your retail situation.
That price seems reasonable if it is what you want. Don't let the autists sway you. Its not overpriced, its just not well priced.

No. I don't even know ARs, but you should never make a thousand dollar purchase based on what 4chan says. Do your own research, get to the point where you actually know about the weapon you want to invest in, then make the decision yourself.

There is literally the entire internet at your fingertips, and you stroll onto the used market where people price gouge like no tomorrow.
You can find way cheaper AR's that'll shoot as well as the Colt. People buy Colt because there are people out there that would pay big money for Colt. Those buyers love it because it's "the original!". Even though you begin strolling into boutique brands at over $1100.

If you just want an ar to shoot you could get a brand new one and a decent optic for $1,100. If you want to resell it at some point the brand will matter but you shouldn't be selling guns unless you have either way too many or are impoverished.
Honestly just wait a fucking month and you will have reasonable prices and will not have given money to panic sellers.

Shit, I forgot BCG. Add another $80 for one from PSA. You could also get a cheap barreled upper and cheap assembled lower from PSA for $500 right now. Only other thing you would need is a BCG.
I built pic related for around $1500 including 6 mags. You can do better than Armslist asshole's rifle for the price he's asking.

If this is your first gun, its probably not the best idea to buy used. Many dealers actually have offerings within the same price range.
