Hey /K, I hope you are all having a good holiday. Christmas season! Help me out here!
I have decided I definitely want to buy either a Bulgarian Makarov or a CZ-82 for my first handgun. What are the best deals on either of these guns? What should I pay? Where should I buy one? Help a wannabe slavboo out brothers!

I picked mine up from Classic Firearms. J&G Sales has them for about $30 cheaper now, looks to be from the same source and about the same condition. Great buy, go for it.
Expect it to be CAKED in cosmoline inside and out. The safety on mine is pretty stiff. I had a hell of a time detail stripping and cleaning it when I got it home, but it paid off on the first range trip.
It's fun to shoot and accurate as hell. Just watch the slide mounted safety doesn't bite your thumb when shooting it, mine was sharp enough to draw blood.

AIM has them as well. I picked mine up last Monday, haven't been able to shoot it yet but the finish is good and they clean up well. Can't go wrong with the dick grips.

I have two Russian Makarovs right now. I'd really like one from East Germany.
I paid around $200 each years ago. Easily some of the best money I've spent on firearms considering the quality of these weapons. I am amazed at the reliability and accuracy of them. >Hard to fuck up a Walther design though.

If you want a CZ-82 that bad, you can do whatever you want. Call and ask if they actually have them in stock first, SOG is notorious for not keeping their site up to date and having shitty customer service in general.

that's what i did. take it apart as best you can. mine was so gunked up i couldn't draw the slide. dunk it all in boiling water, let it soak a bit and then wipe it down

75 is a better pistol, Makarovs just have the commie charm. They're reliable and cheap, and have dick grip, whereas the CZ is a modernish handgun.

C&R is okay to get access to SOG. Got a couple of rifles off of them with mine. However, the Bulgy Maks are generally not considered C&R.

Mine was at least wiped down (AIM) before it was boxed. I used hot water. Most important for functioning is taking the safety/decocker out and cleaning the firing pin channel.

+1 on cleaning firing pin channel. Kerosene or mineral spirits work fine. Take the magazine apart too. There is a hidden Cosmo mine in there under the cartridge lifter.

QC wasn't anywhere near as strict with the commercials as the shit meant for the military. With Bulgarian Maks going for what they are now on AIM and Classic, I don't see the point in picking up a commercial

Hey bro, I was fully in loved with the makarov too until I realized it was not practical for a first gun, Its pretty darn heavy because its stamped steel. I ended up going with a Bersa Thunder 380, which is like a walther ppk wanna be but very reliable and sexy. I suggest you take the bersa route, the makarov can be a good plink gun later or relic gun but in terms of carry, I do not advise it. Its up to you bro, you call the shot. Pic related, its a bersa thunder 380 (they are also cheap!) Only con is they shoot 380 which is an expensive ammo.

The magazine release, is shit. The parts rub up against each other at harsh angles and is gritty, even after polishing and oiling.
