What does /k/ think about the SA80?
>>30250901
L85A1 is a garbage
L85A2 is a decent rifle
>>30250901
The SA80A1 was a piece of shit but the SA80A2 is solid.
>>30250901
I liked it, yes the original had issues but with the modifications I really liked it. It was well balanced, comfortable and easy to use.
There will be people who bitch and moan about it but they probably never handled it and only listened to the memes.
Overall a good weapon, sometimes a bitch to clean but I liked it.
>>30250901
Shitty bong meme rifle idolized by weeaboos.
>>30250901
super kawaii desu
>>30250901
even the british SF didn't want to use it
>>30250901
A1 was unreliable and a POS in accordance with field reports from British troops. A2 had fixed the problems from the A1 with the aid of Kruat spess magi/k/. Very cute as an animu grill
>>30250965
and the mag fell out constantly
>>30250970
Most special forces don't use the standard issue weapon used by the main military force so that doesn't mean shit.
>>30250901
I like the shorties the medics or boat raider personnel have.
Any bongs on here fired it in there service?
>>30250937
"SA80A1 / A2" isn't a thing. SA80 is an entire weapons family. Its the L85.
>>30250956
>Idolized
>Shit on it because the only weeaboo use of it is of the shitty A1 version and the character is based around that
>>30251022
you think the british sf have augs in their armories and the aussie sf have some sa80s in theirs?
the daniel defense rail bumps up the sexy factor
most afghan-spec weapons have been repainted in coyote tan too. it's slowly blossoming
Ethier cadet or full time forces
>>30251053
Not at all but people like the SAS have to perform halo jumps and scuba insertions that the L85 just cannot handle. Most British soldiers don't so that so their weapons don't have to meet those same standards.
>>30251022
>Most special forces don't use the standard issue weapon used by the main military force so that doesn't mean shit.
>USA: M4A1 carbine issued to both
>>30251053
british SF often use some AR variants
>>30251096
>M4A1
>Widely standard issue
>Implying thats all SF use, either
>>30251090
>Most British soldiers don't need a weapon that fires
>Can claim using bayonet charges is still a valid tactic in 21st century in Trashcanistan/Iraq
Just fucking get over yourself. Your MIL arm is a piece of fucking shit, and your MIL is adopting the M4A1 or a dirivitive of such, prolly with stupidass special snoeflaek LH rifling so you can claim its unique to shittain.
>>30251135
>autism: the post
>>30251096
Given the choice they change their weapon.
>>30251135
Yeah it may not have been the best weapon out there and yes there are better weapons, but we got on with it learnt to love it for all of its faults and yes some of them were glaring faults but we made it work.
ugliest modern rifle I've ever seen
>>30250970
>>30251022
UKSF don't use it because the weapon is too easy to identify, in the event of capture, the enemy would be able to tell immediately that they are British.
The pathfinders had them briefly, but switched back to the M16A2 (now using the C8 along with SFSG) because the L85 literally melted in the jungle.
>>30251039
The carbine version is issued to tank crews, some helicopter crewmen and as you correctly pointed out, Royal marine specialists, it's a decent rifle (the current version) the new optic is better than the old ACOG and has a really small dot sight for close quarter fighting, it's sprayed in coyote tan now and is a pretty solid all-rounder, a lot of people rag on it because you have to give it a reach around to change the mag but with training (like every rifle) it becomes a doddle, the safety is really well placed aswell, you just flick it with your thumb on and off, so you can bring it up, flick the safety off and start firing in a single, fluid movement.
Cliffs; it gud.
>>30251135
Go home Argentina you're not getting the islands back.
>>30251324
Being Irish I have a natural hate for you bongs, but god damn that rifle is sexy
Rifle is bad but complaining about it wouldn't be properly British so they just keep calm and practice bayonet drills while dreaming of L1A1s
>>30251324
>L85 literally melted in the jungle
Whoa, could you provide some firld reports and pics with it? I wanna see that
>>30251130
m4a1 is fielded to most infantry divisions.
you have no idea what you are talking about
>>30251406
>complaining about it wouldn't be properly British
Complaining about things is the British pastime, you could give a squaddie a gold bar and he would moan it was not shiny enough.
>>30251450
In today's infantry, yes. Not back them when Operation Desert Storm and the Iraq war came in full swing
>>30251039
its lovely to fire.
the muzzle break is really good
balance is great
i have no problems with reloads
safety is great
sling is pretty class
its a cunt to clean
>>30251135
a bayonet charge in Afghanistan left 21 taliban dead with only two British servicemen injured and one dead
>>30251432
The PF were quite literally equipped using gear that was procured from the black market, (until about 2003) so not a lot of solid info in the way of sanctioned field reports from the MoD
There are however a few articles about it
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1351052/Soldiers-rifle-failed-in-battle-says-secret-report.html
That one only says it jammed, but what really happened is that the moving parts expanded within the rifle so much, seizing it up completely, whilst the plastic on the underside melted away, a whole platoon of lads in a trench fight against RUF rebels, who couldn't even use their rifles and had to rely on the GPMG's and a couple of SAW's they had in reserve.
Operation Mayhem is a pretty good read if you want to know more about it.
>>30251096
What's your point faggot? He saidost, not all.
>>30251577
Damn! Was the stanping to thin or something or was it the influence of the environmental temperature along aith the internal temperatures from firing the rifle?
>>30251450
M16A4 was standard issue even in 2015, chucklefuck
>>30251775
If you are in the marines maybe
Army riflemen is basically an all carbine force.
>>30251942
Army only switched very recently too.
>>30251711
If I remember correctly it was something to do with moisture because it only happened in Sierra Leone and Borneo, jungle environments, whereas there weren't as many issues in Kuwait or Cyprus, all of which had a British military presence at the time
don't quote me on the exact about the rifle though, the A1 and even A2 were before my time
>>30250935
whats the difference?
>>30252259
One was the original and had a fuck load of issues. The other one was the one where the fixed the fucking issues.
>>30252312
like?
>>30251550
Bad ass, any link of the battle?
>>30252317
Well one glaring issue was the charging handle kept deflecting ejected rounds back into the breach jamming the rifle.
>>30250958
