Discuss, share pics of, or bash Browning's based pistol.

Question: Does anyone know if there's any stock behind the rumors that Nighthawk Custom is going to be offering compact slides for Hi-Powers soon? If not, are there any FM Argentine Detective sldies to be found still?

Why the fuck would you want a short slide you faggot? Its not that the Browning Hi power is a very thick gun or is super hard to carry.

Also I got an FEG hi power, is shocking how good the ergos and bore axis are for a gun from the fucking late 1920s-30s. Like Seriously, it to me is more comfortable and has less felt recoil then a sig p226. I mean to me it feels like a more refined 1911.

And I see OP knocked out the retaining pin for the magazine disconnect. Once you remove that the trigger becomes so much nicer and mags just don't drop free but practically fly out the gun.

Put an extended safety lever on one, remove the mag disconnect, and load up a mec-gar 15 rounder with your hollow point of choice and the hi-power is easily the equal of just about any modern pistol.

Though I do think the CZ-75 is superior to the hi-power. It has similar yet even more superior ergos, a even lower bore axis, more capacity, and double action capability.

Though I love both guns just because of how pleasant shooting they are in 9mm, and the very nice trigger pull you can get from a hammer fired gun. Not to mention both guns are absolute sex to look at

Got my "Fair" Kareen Mk.1 yesterday. external finish shows a lot of wear, and the bore has some damage near the muzzle. Already took out the magazine safety and it made the trigger pull much more crisp, if not any lighter. The included magazine needs a new spring; it doesn't push the slide stop up all the way. Also, after cleaning and re-greasing the mag release it sometimes gets hung up on its own detent when pushed all the way in. A bit annoying; I might have to replace it.

On the plus side, this pistol feels like it was made for my hand.

Fucking Israelis.

You'd think they could at least take enough time out of their busy day of shooting Palestinians to refinish their guns.

Whatever. Have a nice leather OWB holster & double mag pouch coming in the mail Tuesday or Wednesday, and then it's carry time!

Nothing to do with loads of them hitting the surplus market or nighthawk putting out their version. Remember when the M9A3 and WC Brigadier came out?
>>
>>30249155
The other side actually has even less finish.

It definitely looks like a pistol that spend the last 20-odd years being used in the ME.

Still shoots nice though.

just bought a 1000 rounds of brown bear 115 grain ball for my Israeli surplus FN High Power.

I think a lot of it has to do with how the guns are transported after they have been sold by the original police department. A lot of these guns look like they were put in a moist burlap sack with a bunch of other guns, and thrown on a ship for the trip across the Atlantic.

Here's a couple tips for working on Hi Powers that I recently figured out:

>If you own a Mark II or Mark III Hi Power and want to remove the magazine safety, but the trigger pin won't budge
With Hi Powers produced after the early 1980s, you need to remove the entire trigger to remove the magazine safety. The trigger pin can be very sticky with the Mark III's and most any epoxy finished guns. By just hammering on it with your hammer and punches, even if you use tape around the pin, it's possible to round off the end of the pin without budging it, or worse, scratch the frame.

I've had a lot of success using a bench vise, driver bit and a washer to make a "mini 12-ton press": Strip the pistol down to the frame. Put a layer of masking tape on one side of a washer. Tape this, taped side facing the gun, to the left side of the Hi Power's frame, with the trigger pin oriented in the middle of the washer's hole. Also tape up the front of the dust cover to protect from general scratches. Now find a driver bit (I used a 3/32" allen key/hex driver bit), and set it up so the driver bit and the gun are both in the vise, with the driver bit on the right side of the trigger pin, and the washer on the left side of the trigger pin. Slowly tighten the vise and the trigger pin will eventually budge - it MUST BE removed right to left. Once you get it started, take it out of the vise and finish hammering it out on the bench.

>If your magwell is tight, and magazines refuse to drop free, even after clearing the magazine safety (or even if you've removed your magazine safety)
Your sear spring may need to be adjusted. The tab at the bottom is bent at an angle, and some are bent at too severe of an angle so that it causes the sear spring to bulge out too much and put friction on the magazine body. Two of the six Hi Powers I have owned have had this problem. To fix, just remove the sear spring and bend that little tab at the bottom little by little until magazines drop free from the gun.
>>
>>30253779
These are some pretty neat tips

Have you swapped out the springs in your Hi-Power before? When I get a surplus, I'm probably gonna put in a new recoil spring just for the hell of it.

The recoil spring is easy. The hammer spring is a pain in the ass to swap out. BH Spring Solutions makes a tool to help getting it on/off the hammer strut, but it's still kind of difficult. I would only change the recoil springs unless the hammer seemed like there was something wrong with it, like if I was getting light primer strikes.

The flat spring?
>>
>>30257524
Yes. It can function as a magazine brake if the bend at the bottom end is too severe.

God that's a gorgeous gun. I saw an adjustable tangent sight Hi-Power for sale in a local pawn shop but it was hovering at $1200.
>>
>>30258007
That seems like a good deal for a tangent sight Hi Power, at least if it was in good condition.
>>
>>30258052
It may very well be, but I wasn't 21 at the time and won't be for another two months and five days unfortunately. No idea if it's still there.
