Guns are reaching a point of complexity at which it would be easier to have some of their components be electronic or motorized.

Thoughts /k/?

No. Completely fucking retarded. Besides making maintenance a complete shitshow, the electronics would inevitably get fucked up by the continuous explosions.
>>

Modern guns are hilariously simple. When you have over 100 years to perfect a design, you loose pretty much all the excess fat.

There are some components that could be enhanced by electrical components. Electric triggers are a fairly proven concept, and electrically cycled guns have been around for a long time, but they are pretty much only used as vehicle mounted weapons. Adding electrical components to a firearm would only complicate them, not make them simpler.
>>
Sure.

There are already bullets that steer themselves in flight, you just need to paint an IR target on the target with the rifle/a spotter scope and hope nobody has anything that can follow that IR beam home.

Motorized guns are called miniguns.

You could maybe make a case for a battery powered winder for a giant magazine that keeps pressure on the cartridge to go in the chamber at optimal levels to reduce misfeeds.

Sights have already been made electronic, too. It's very expensive, but you can get a rifle that calculates windage and drop and the like for you. Or, more simply, all of your red dot/laser dot stuff that's a tiny laser pointer on a glass window in place of traditional irons are making sights electronic.

Metal Storm is a good example of a gun that has an electric ignition system, and today's 20mm rounds have an electric ignition system rather than pin and primer.

Anybody that wants to complain about explosions and hard wear fucking up electronics should look at the long history the automotive industry has in lacing engines with sensors and switches, and the ignition system of cars in general. Electronics can be made to work in extreme environments, they just can't be too complex.

You are a complete retard

This, an electronic trigger is the next step for precision shooting. No break and no creep, just a light spring.
Wouldn't trust it for anything that has more jostling than that.
>>
>>30240598
An electronic circuit that simple wouldn't be fragile. Don't be a fudd.

Electronics could be much simpler, a motor and a couple of cables.

>>30240538
I agree with partially electronic guns, but many newer designs are not hilariously simple. All of these airshit-looking guns that militaries are adopting are just too over mechanical.

I kind of wish they would have done more with the electronic primer system. It's a classic example of "only thinking inside the box".
Since the trigger would now be just a button, they could put it anywhere on the gun. Or even off, if they really wanted to be creative.
The act of squeezing the trigger tends to jerk the gun off-target. If the "trigger pull" uses a different set of muscles, the shooter might have an easier time holding the gun steady through the shot.

fucking christ golgo 13 was a huge shit show of retarded weapon bullshit. Worse than any Hollywood faggotry I've ever seen.

Minigun is one specific machine gun that just happens to have an external power source.

How long does the plastic seal last, Satan?
>>
Honestly there's not much to do with guns except try to compensate for people who can't aim. Mechanically guns are fine enough. They could be doing with electronic displays for ammo and other things(gas setting, compass, watch, kebab locator etc.) But in terms of action the trigger is all that could be improved easily. Maybe gel insulated barrels will become a thing one day?

>How long does the plastic seal last, Satan?

It's a prototype by a 60+ year old man working out of his garage.
It's just a proof of concept.
>>
>>30241000
Wtf are you talking about? What "airshit looking guns"? Virtually every gun adopted today is some variation of an AR18 internally, which is about as simple and efficient as a firearm can mechanically be. I feel like you have no actual knowledge of firearms design, and your just parroting some old curmudgeon complaining about these newfangled contraptions.
>>
>>30241214
I'm not that guy, but fuck you. It was fun.

Nothing like seeing a world famous gunsmith rechambering a rifle with a Dremel.
>>
maybe an electronic trigger for bullpup? it would eliminate most of the squishy trigger if the trigger connect to the action electronically.
>>
>>30240443
It's motorized. The propellant is the gas expansion from the explosion much like turning the motor of a vehicle.

Electronic is what you mean and yes, there are some that require electronic timing such as miniguns. An external motor runs most if not every fourth+ generation aircraft nose gun.

For regular hand held guns, no it's not a requirement to go electronic motor. It doesn't need a battery to run a new function beyond optics. It would be a pain in the ass if it needed more than optic electronics power.
