OK, you guys might be the place to ask.

I live in a state where I could make a completely unregistered gun from an 80% lower, but I don't intend to stay in this state forever.

Do you guys know somewhere I can get a completed lower with ONLY a serial number and none of those bullshit brandname roll marks?

i think it might be the camera angle. im pretty sure thats an aimpoint too.

also, are gucci mounts really worth it for ar optics? i was going to get a bobro for my SPR build anyway but i was wondering if its totally worth it for a red dot to get an adm or axts or scalarworks or something.

Best ammo that can be used for plinking and self defense? I was thinking M855 would be good because I plan on getting a 20", but if there's something else that can be both an economical plinking round and somewhat viable for defense, I'd like to know. Pic unrelated, something a friend in the IDF sent me.

Went to the gun shop and told them what KAC said. They tried telling me that gun companies say that all the time because they don't want unrecognized entities working on their firearms. They were pretty quiet when I said regardless of KAC's opinion I thought their work was far from acceptable, as was trying to overcharge me for their fuck up.

Manager/gunsmith wasn't in however, so I'll probably go back on Monday and give the same spiel to the owner about why he can either pay for it to be touched up by a KAC-certified shop or just pony up $400 on the spot for the MAMS and the bogus overcharging for fixing the threads that his shitty job broke.

Hey guys, this is the parts list for my planned AR15 build, let me know if there are any things you'd suggest changing, or if therequired is a comparable quality, cheaper optic for holo or red dot, or a not-$1000+ ELCAN equivalent out there

Adams Arms AR15 Base A3 Gas-Piston UR Assy. 5.56NATO 16" Mid length
$550.64
AXTS Raptor Ambi Charging handle $85-95
PSA MOE SL LPK Black $125

Anderson Manuf. Stripped lower open trigger $60
Rainier Arms modified trigger guard $25

if youre going with a PSA LPK, get an assembled PSA lower. You'll actually save a bit of money, as usually they have an MOE one for under $200 shipped. Plus the PSA lowers look a lot nicer than the Anderson ones.
Right now they have a PSA lower with the Magpul STR stock for $190-200, thats like a $60 stock as opposed to the $30 MOE.
>>
>>30239383
I know these are 'blem' but both myself and a friend have bought blem lowers and I cannot find any blemish at all.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/blem-psa-ar-15-complete-lower-magpul-acs-l-edition-black-no-magazine.html

http://palmettostatearmory.com/blem-psa-str-complete-lower-receiver-black.html

Dont get the anderson lower if you're building a nice rifle like that. Nothing functionally wrong with them (I have 6) but the anodizing on them is a cheap grey, and it's a little rough. The SAFE/FIRE selectors are also written in a rather childishly large font. The PSA ones have a nice deep anodized finish and normal selectors. Plus they dont have the gigantic Anderson rollmark

>PSA fathers day deals
>should not have gone to PSA today
>>
>>30239411
Damn, that's breddy gud.
I know the first part I'm getting is the AA piston upper. I absolutely must have piston after running gas operated M4s in thehe at my for 6 years then getting to play with an operator's HK416 downrange when we hit the range one day.

I dont know if you could get them to do that, I doubt it desu. You could probably find one with no engravings somewhere and then ship it to get engraved. A place called Tennessee arms or some shit is doing promo laser engravings for like $30 with return shipping paid.

I have like 3 lowers that need engravings so... Just waiting for my taylor swift themed trust logo to be finalized, kek.

Pretty much the whole list is garbage.

Ditch the Anderson lower for an Aero or Spikes, invest in a better LPK like a DD or BCM, get an MLOK or Keymod handguard (Geissele or BCM KMR are my favs), get Magpul MBUS PRO or KAC back up sights, and ditch the EOShit for an Aimpoint.

This. DI is king unless you want to spend big bucks on LMT piston setups and the like.

Do you guys use a machine to complete your lowers? Or do you do it by hand with power tools.

I am kind of a lazy cunt and I just want like a CNC machine that I can press a button on and have it finish my lower.

THe only thing out there is this https://ghostgunner.net/

And it isnt even available yet, you can just pay a $250 deposit on the machine and then when it is available pay another $1500....

Question for you guys:

>first ar
>bought cheap parts kit ($450)
>bought cheap lower ($50)
>assembled it, shot 100 rounds
>but about six or seven times the firing pin struck the round but it didn't fire
>ejected round, indent on the round
>reloaded rounds into magazine, fired the second time

I realize that with cheap parts I shouldn't expect quality, but I expected it to at least fire fine.

Would a new bolt carrier group fix the problem, or maybe a new firing pin? New trigger?

Wikipedia has this:

>An additional point of concern in the design is the inertial firing pin. A lightweight firing pin rides in a channel inside the bolt unrestrained. When the bolt locks forward during loading, the firing pin typically rides forward and impacts the primer of the chambered round. In military specification ammunition and quality civilian ammunition, this is not normally enough to fire the round and only leaves a small "ding" on the primer.

I'm probably going to get a pro mag front BUIS as I already have the rear BUIS by them. I'll look into a import for sure though.
And is MLOK really worth the ~$100 premium? I've never had any issues retaining zero on pica tinny so that's why I ask.
As for lowers I'm debating whether or not to go with a stripped 100% or an 80% lower as I don't like the fed having the ability to go to an FFL in a gun grab situation and seeing my info in their transfer log book. Which would ID every firearm purchase. I'd rather risk the off chance it does happen only having them know of my pistols and snagging them.
At the same time, I really don't know if it's worth it enough to fuss with milling out an 80% to me or not. I'm okay with getting a shirt mil-spec parts kit and polishing the hammer and sears by hand
>>
>>30239566
I'm entirely okay with spending big on piston uppers or conversion kits to bypass the downfalls of DI.
DI works really well, I just don't want to deal with having my life depend in my rifle ever again and have it malfunction because of carbon and dirt and me not having cleaned it a tenth time that day.

Why not an AA upper? Their piston AFICT is almost exactly the same as the HK416 piston system. And I'd love an Adcore but I don't have the intention of dropping $1500 on just an upper, even with the enticing ambi controls
>>
>>30239670
Dude seriously.

If it is that much of a concern to you I have 2 very valid pieces of advice.

1) Stick with DI and get a Cryptic BCG. Will cost you about $250 but they have extremely low coefficient of friction, are self lubing, coating doesnt allow carbon to stick, and they can operate at like 750 F.

2) Shell out the extra money and get an adcore piston upper. https://www.adcordefense.com/products/a-elite/

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON A PISTON KIT!

Please. Having tried both Adams Arms and the Osprey Piston kits (Even when someone else assembled them into an upper for me) they are shit.

The springs get fucked up all the time and they break a lot. The HK has a slightly different system and a proprietary BCG.

I thought the exact same thing as you, dropped the money on the AA and had problems with it every time I used it. Switched to an Osprey Piston kit which worked better but is incompatible with most rail systems (AA at least offers the XLP gas blocks).

Adcore is expensive sure but if you are going piston dont skimp. If you dont want to spend the money just get a sexy bcg and stick with DI.

>>
>>30239869

>>
>>30239826
I think it can. Most of the parts are compatible but I remember reading that you also need a specific trigger/hammer. Something about the design of the bolt system creating an issue with proper impact on the firing pin. I was planning to buy an HK upper and just drop it on my lower but decided against it.

There are a number of other differences as well. That might make it impossible. For example the firing pin safety system to prevent slam fire and the buffer tube and receiver extension are different. You will need a new spring and buffer as well.

Seriously I was really trying to run a proper piston AR and it really only is worth it if you buy a full MR556(civilian HK416) or an Adcore.

If you want though try the AA kit. For like $80 less though you can get a cryptic bcg and run D.I. but eliminate most of the issues with D.I.
>>
>>30239876

Okay enough memeing around, there is something serious I did want to ask about regarding AR reliability vs the AK.

One thing that I hear about that is uncontested among AKs is that the work very well in the cold. I don't know if it's the bigass extractor, or the tolerances being such that any frozen/crystallized oils won't obstruct the gun from functioning.

If I lived up somewhere in Alaska where it can easily get assrapingly cold in the winter, will my AR be fine? What can I do to guard against cold-induced malfunctions?

Motherfucker, the USGI mags were the last thing in the trifecta of dumb shit that gave the AR its reputation as lolunreliable.

The difference being is that the other problems were ironed out in Vietnam, whereas it took the military until the 2000s to start using decent AR mags (aka Magpul mags).

I'm gonna get an AR for plinking. I'm a broke ass college student, so I'm not looking to spend more than $600.

I'm deciding between a Ruger 556 and a Smith and Wesson M&P Sporter II. I like the heavy barrel on the Ruger, but I like the treated barrel on the M&P as well. Both have good warranties and come from companies I wouldn't mind dealing with if something broke. I'm currently leaning towards the Ruger due to the fit and finish that I saw at my LGS, and because of the fact that it doesn't have an ass-ugly M&P on the side. Besides the difference in barrels I really don't see much difference between the two. Is there something obvious that I am missing here that would change my mind?
