Mosins are cool guns but starting with a high-powered bolt gun is a good way to teach yourself a ton of bad habits.
As has been said, when x54r was $3/box and nuggets were sub-$100, you could justify it as a first rifle despite its shortcomings.

My first semi-auto rifle was an SKS. But that was back when they were sub-$200.
A decent SKS costs ~$400 these days if not more.

Went to a gun show today. Some fag was selling a mosin with non-matching furniture for $450 dollars. It was your standard Russian . Someone else was selling an old beat to shit Chinese type 56 for $570. I thought the whole point of even paying to get into a gun show was that you could get good deals. Some other fuck stick was selling 20 round boxes of Tula 7.62x39 for $6.49 each when you can get 40 round box of the same shit at Walmart for $9. I'm done with gun shows, or big ones at least. The ones in bumfuck nowhere usually have decent deals because the people selling their guns need the money.
