Sup /k/, just got hired as a police officer today. Department allows me to carry any firearm I want so long as I can qualify with it. I already have an m&p 9, but im wondering if theres a better option. Anyy suggestions? Money is no object.

Any?

Seems like a good choice to me

I'd honstly recommend a .45. Like a 1911 or a cz97. Just my opinion.
What department do you work for that lets you carry anything? It's ok not to be too specific, I'm just curious. All departments and agencies in this area are strict on what you can carry, and no modifications to your guns whatsoever outside of things like changeable backstraps and grips.
I know I'm stuck with my M&P40 because of that and I would dump it in a skinny minute for just about anything else if I could.

What ever you get/Use be prepared to lose it if you are ever in a shooting.

Make sure you can easily shoot with it using either Hands and that its comfortable as such.
I chose a Glock 20 with a TLR 2,
Additionally make sure that what ever side arm you choose has a good quality Holster that meets your department's retention Policy. My Dept require a level 3 so I ended up with a Black Hawk Drop leg Holster.

L3 Holster as previously mentioned.

Take a look at plastic, striker-fired handguns. My agency uses the Sig P229 in .357SIG and it feels like I'm carrying a boat anchor both on and off-duty.
I'd recommend a Glock 19 or Sig P320 Carry. They're both a good size for on and off-duty, lightweight, reliable, and have a good magazine capacity. Don't know your department policy, but I'd also recommend getting a 9mm for cost per round. It's stupidly expensive for me to practice on my own with .357SIG. Finally, get a good light. My favorite is the Surefire X300

I just tested with CPD. They are now only allowing G17/19's and 26 for off duty from what it seems. You're lucky you can just pick whatever you want.
