This is pretty much a must on all my rifles. After a good trigger, optic and sling a bipod is mandatory.
>>
Don't have a bipod on any of my rifles because I never really bench shoot, but I've been looking to get one to use for optic sighting instead of hauling a rest around.

What does /k/ recommend for a decent bipod that'll work well for that purpose? Preferably not a $300 top of the line one, I don't need something like that.

>Don't have a bipod on any of my rifles because I never really bench shoot

Not needed for that. It's a practical thing. For any kind of precision shooting or shooting anything that isn't close it's better to rest the rifle on something stable or going prone.
>>
>>30225199
I suppose, but everything I use my rifles for has never really put me in a position where I would've used it. I generally just plink while standing or crouched and when I hog hunt I don't lie prone.

You have any suggestions for a decent bipod I could swap between my ARs?
>>
>>30225242
Pro-mag 9"

It's light, cheap, just folds and unfolds so it's quick and simple, and it allows you to go prone with a 30 round p-mag.
>>
none because I'm not a pole smoking bench queen
>>
>>30225242
I would recommend a Harris Bipod, but you said it's for your AR's.

Could always get a Harris that you like for under$100, then get the $35 GG&G sling stud bipod adapter so you can mount it on a rail.
>>
>>30225299

Harris Bipod's are fucking solid, no doubt

Just got the cant lock lever for my Caldwell bipod yesterday... Hopefully it stays put unlike the standard knob that loosens while shooting...
>>
>>30225292
This looks like it work fine for my purposes, thanks.
>>30225299
>>30225332
Yeah, I've heard good things about Harris. Wonder why they don't make a model that's made for rails by default.
>>
>>30225403
That's just how Harris rolls. Plus most of their clientele are shooting benchrest and bolt guns, which usually have sling studs, and don't have rails on them aside from maybe a scope rail.

Also, with all the adapters out there, why would they need to make something that a fraction of their market wants?
>>
>>30225425
Fair point. Any specific model you'd recommend for an AR after I get an adapter?

>Yeah, I've heard good things about Harris. Wonder why they don't make a model that's made for rails by default.

Which is why I went with the pro-mag. It's not as solid, but it's over half the price, gets the job done and is much lighter and quicker to use. For an AR-15 or under its tits, for a heavier more long range gun go with a Harris, at least.
>>
>>30225429
Depends on what you want to do with it, and how adjustable you need it to be.
>>
>>30225444
Thanks for the recommendation, reviews look good.
>>30225446
I'll probably get one of those for an all-purpose role and maybe get a Harris as well for use for more detailed stuff like optic zeroing at decent distances.
>>
>>30225077
I've got several, ranging from the $30 Caldwell that's ridiculously long to the $300 Atlas.
>Atlas is highly overrated btw, really only see any serious improvement over a Harris if you're shooting an already ridiculously heavy ultramag

AMA
>>
>>30225499
Tfw you got an atlas for $25
>>
>>30225077

I have three Harris 9-13" S-LM models and the only other bipods I would consider would either be a super long Harris model for tall grass or one of the fancy new featherweight bipods that companies are starting to sell.

I run at Harris 6-9" bipod with the Caldwell pic rail bipod adaptor. The adaptor is like $20 tops.
>>
>>30225511
Lucky fucker. Hope it isn't fake, but then again even the fake ones are usually pretty good quality.
>>30225521
My Caldwell has held up amazingly well considering what I use it for (shooting from sitting @ prairie rats). I bought it specifically because it was one of like 3 models of bipod long enough to shoot comfortably while sitting. If it ever breaks it will be replaced with another Caldwell, it's almost a pound lighter (and $110 cheaper) than the same length Harris.
>>
>>30225558

I might try out a long-legged Caldwell then, thanks.

Whatever you get, make sure it's a cant/swiveling model. Non-swivel bipods are worthless in field shooting positions.
>>
>>30226394
I'm still surprised Harris has "swivel" in their description when all it does is cant.
>>
>>30225077
Just got a quad rail handguard for my WASR-10. I normally wouldn't even think of it, but now I have so many god damn rails (I have the two-rail mount for the scope mount too) I don't even know what to do with myself.

Would you put a bipod on a WASR-10, /bipod/ man?
>>
>>30225511
I got mine for $100. Good job making me feel like I got a bad deal.
>>
>>30226394

Agreed, and tighten down the swivel so it takes a decent amount of force to move. I can't stand a static bipod, but I also can't stand one that flops your gun around.
>>
>>30227588

No.

You're experiencing what we often warn about with too much rail space. People get the urge to turn their guns into heavy abominations by slapping a bunch of cheap accessories on. Resist the urge. Get a foregrip if anything.
>>
Shooting stick masterrace here.

Can't stand having something heavy and bulky on the end of my AR, plus you don't have to go prone with sticks
>>
>>30228401

And you can't use them in prone when you want to.

Bipods are fine.
Tripods are more useful.
They are not mutually exclusive.

Thankfully swapping out the much lighter slim guard is super easy, trying to move and shoot with this setup is tiring.

I paid $400 Aussie dollarydoos for my Atlas plus $170 for the monopod :(
