What sort of boot does /k/ prefer?

I've been experimenting with various sorts of footwear over the years to see which did best for work (paramedic). My current boots are Corcoran 5407 tankers. Not because of any stolen valor bullshit (never served, never really wanted to), but because they were designed to be comfortable while worn for hours on end in a cramped vehicle, which is pretty much what I do for a living. I did about 20 hours straight in them yesterday and I have to say that, while not as comfortable as my old engineer boots, they were pretty damned comfy. Especially after I smeared enough mink oil in them to lube a crank case.

Pic related: Corcoran 5407s in action. Or rather, not in action.

Take it from a former user, your straps will snag on things at the worst possible time. That said, I wore my pair for a couple of years and they held up quite well.

I hope that you don't find yourself hung up on something, but be aware of the possibility.
>>
>>30220861

Yeah, they're supposedly designed to do the precise opposite of that, but mine kind of hung on the unit door just a while ago. They didn't slow me down or trip me and I sort of chalked it up to a loose instep strap (immediately tightened), but it was kind of a downer. To be honest, every laced boot I've ever had did the same thing, so I'm not too bummed. Eh, if these don't work out I'm going back to a pair of side zip paratroopers with zip tie laces, which I wore for years just fine. I think I wore out three or four pairs of those.

"Tactical" boots a shit, though. Fucking hate those single-use foot quilts. Hot, flimsy bastards.
>>
Royer MOABs are the best boots I've owned to date. Highly recommend 8" with the zip tops but not everyone is comfortable in high boots. Build quality is why I keep buying their stuff. Never had a pair fail at anything other than a gradual slow wear n tear pace.
>>
>>30220983
>side zip
This kills the boot.
>>
>>30221004

I agree. I also work 48 hour shifts, which means that I need to be able to get into my boots easily in the night.

Tanker boots are...... a little complicated, but not so badly as a mile of laces.

Facility went from 5.11 boots to magnum ones and the magnum one sucks dick. Went through 3 boots in 2 years and almost destroyed this one pair to the point I need new ones.

Catapilers though are pretty damn sturdy and easy on my fat feet.
>>
>>30220983
One of the more commonly repeated reasons for leather straps is that it makes them easier to remove after fires. There is also the shoulder holster legend, but I think that the fire explanation makes more sense.

Where do you ride?

Homie, get yourself a pair of the nike combat boots. As a fellow Medic i'm telling you they are the bee's knee's.

Ever try haix station boots?
>>
>>30221421

I so hate the tactical boots, though.
>>
>>30222828
They are comfy and super light. Ive worked 48's too. A lightweight pair of boots is really nice to have while your pumping junkies full of narcan all day

>posting anything other than Redwings iron rangers
disappoint
I put some Dr Scholls inserts in mine after I broke them in and they're the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. The cork sole makes them almost silent, as well. They last for fucking ever

Enjoy slipping on ice if you ever trek to the north.

Also, the toe box looks weird on the Redwing boot compared to the other overpriced, but quality, hipster IPA ale-tier boots that are everywhere these days.
>>
>>30220830

WTF are those on your feet! Just get a pair of haix, redbacks, or Danners... Stop being special snow flake autism.

You can get pic related from Fleet Farm for $200 less, and I guarantee the quality is equal.

Hate to rip on Redwing so much as a Minnesotan, cos I think they're great and a legend, but IR boots are a meme.
>>
>>30224351
i usually just wear my Sorels if it's icy
I've gotten a ridiculous amount of complements on them
>hipster boots
b-but redwings have been around since like 1905

>>30224386
it's okay to rip on redwings, for some fucking reason they don't sell the brogue rangers in the US anymore
>>
>>30224270
Those are fashion boots, son. Redwing makes actual work boots, the Irish Setters being their most comfortable line of boots, but I stick with the steel toes 'cus muh job demands it.

If you are into traditional boots and want a classic hand made forest style logger boot the whites (hand made in spokane) or his budget line (hawthorne) are pretty decent. I get a pair of smoke jumpers from work every 5 years. I have 2 sets brand new as the original pair is still going strong.

Those look awesome, though.

3rd pair of Merrell MOABs I've owned. Very rugged and comfortable pair of boots. I usually get the waterproofs or vents.

Should have gotten some before they stopped selling them

Logger boots are like sex on your feet. I switch out my nomex laces for leather. Fucking boot is indestructible.

>3rd pair of Merrell MOAB
I know you said they're rugged but did you go through so many pairs because you used the fuck out of them or just poorly made? 3 pairs in what kind of time frame?

They are the entry tier into outdoor boots.
The materials don't break in
They will not be good to wear with a pack on or for long hikes.

They are comfortable in shorter use. Think of them like hoops for wearing outside
>>
>>30226154
If you had to wear black duty boots/shoe and were on your feet for say 8-9hrs a day in all shit kinds of weather. What is the direction you'd go? Trying to find something comfy. Was looking at Adidas boots or Red Wing
>>
>>30225841
I get about a year or 2 of literally everday wear. 100s of miles of rucking, jumps, ftx, etc.
