Could atleast post some nice images of the country's military.

He was the first. He jumped over the fence, as the first one at all. That fence was part of the wall, it was the day the Berlin wall was built.

And his family was in West Berlin, before the wall was built everyone who wanted to could work in West or East.

Also, there were a lot of people actually moving from West to East. Just look it up. There even were American soldiers deflecting to the East, a black one became a famous Schlager singer in the DDR.

Some Bright Star in Egypt
>>
My eldest brother had done his National Service in Germany and moved there after getting out of the Army. I had two weeks leave in 1963 so I went to visit him and his girlfriend in Berlin. They were all arty types (aside from my brother, who had done his best to hide it), involved in theatre, very political and all very affluent.

We ended up in a bar and a woman there, probably in her mid 20s, took an interest in what I was doing. I talked for a while as she was older than me and a lot better looking than the girlfriend I had back home, and most importantly definitely up for a lot more. I flirted (as best as an 18 year old could) and she seemed to take a genuine interest in me. My brother tried to get me to go home with him so I told him to mind his own business, in less polite terms. This stunner was really into me. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot to say or divulge and she seemed disappointed, she thought I was older than I actually was and the morning after kicked me out without so much as a kiss. I don't know if it was the beer or the schnapps or naivety, but I wasn't at all suspicious of a beautiful woman in her mid 20s asking me all sorts of questions about the British Army before having sex.

I returned to my brothers flat and he and his hippy girlfriend were having an argument. They thought I'd been turned. I thought I'd fallen in love. Thus ended my one night career in espionage.

The 60s were the most fun I've had in my life.

There are infact plenty of errors here, here is the most important ones.

Total Army personel (including the Homeguard) was 700 - 800 000

The Local Defence battailons consisted of about 300 000 and the Homeguard of 100 000. So you seem to have mixed them up.

There was only 24 Bkan 1s ever produced.

We never had any Oerlikon 20mm AAAs, those were Bofors m40-70 20mm AAAs.

Many more Drakens were in reserve, over 600 was produced and most of them were scrapped in the 90s.

There was no RBS-15 launchers in the mid or late 80s. They were truckmounted and produced in the mid 90s. One heavy costal battery with Rb 08 did however exist.

>IISS Military Balance

IISS Military Balance needs to be taken with a gigantic grain of salt. Their numbers are based on very much official truth. Back during cold war they could be bit vague when it comes to numbers. Finland bought five or _more_ TOW anti-tank missile systems back in 1982, what did 2003 IISS Military Balance say about it... Finland has 5 TOW systems. It's supposed to be main armament for brigade level heavy anti-tank missile companies. I guess it's single launcher per company.

T-72A obr. 1983g in Moscow 1991 during the August Putsch.

Despite the newer T-72B being introduced in 1985, T-72As still made up a significant proportion of the T-72 fleet by 1991 and were still in service even in 'elite' divisions.

Probably a couple thousand to tend to the aircraft.

The figures were immediately available in Europe, the US and Canada could have pumped a lot more forces into the region with REFORGER quite quickly and the Soviets could have put in 1 million + troops into Europe even quicker.

The US Army III Corps (1st, 4th, & 5th ID, 1st Cavalry, 2nd Armored plus misc brigades/regiments) and 82nd/101st Airborne Divisions were designed to get to Europe within 30 days or so. The Canadian 1st Infantry Division and Special Service Force would be a part of the force attached to the U.S. VII Corps.

Granted both sides simply would have nuked each other into oblivion in the opening salvos, so the circumstances of who managed to come out better would determine the conventional phase.

For my last copypasta, here's Chinese forces of the same era. Needless to say the PLA has come a LONG way since the Cold War, where they would have potentially fought the Soviets as a 2nd front in support of NATO. Starting by the late 1970's, the US began to provide substantial support for China and both sides hinted that the other would intervene on their behalf in the event of a major war with the USSR.
