Yes it sucks , I was just about to post a reply too. I guess since the last thread was nuked i'll post some side news from eastern Homs. IS and the SAA are continuing to fight around Jazal oil field. People shouldn't forget IS never lost Shaer and are still active in the area.

I was also about to post reports, before the thread got deleted. Anyway;

- SDF/YPG are still advancing near Manbij, they took some more villages early today. There are reports that the whole city is already encircled, but they have not been confirmed. But the only road to leave Manbij, if was not already cutted, is probably already under fire from the SDF. Charles Lister said that SDF/YPG killed ISIS Manbij Emir, "Osama al-Tunisi," along with his family as they attempted to flee to Al-Bab.

The pic is the now repaired, in a very simplistic fashion, Qare Qowzaq bridge.

Here's the old thread:

Reports that the Rebels are on the move again, in South Aleppo, after yet another failed assault from the Shia Militias/SAA to retake Humayra, last night. Pro Rebel sources are saying that the Rebels have captured Al Qarassi and Zaytan/zitan.

In North Aleppo, by the latest pro rebel reports, from yesterday, the villages of Tal Hussein, Ihtimalat, Kafrah, Tilalayn, Braghidah and Sawran are still on ISIS hands.

In the southern area of Mare, the YPG from the Afrin pocket decided to attack ISIS villages; ISIS claims to has repelled YPG attacks on Harbul and Umm Hawsh, while the YPG claims the capture of two villages. There also reports that the Rebels from Mare attacked ISIS Tal Malid.

Less important, a Rebel kurdish faction, from the FSA, the Kurdish Revolutionary Battalion decided that they will shell Afrin, arguing that YPG has not released their men.

Lastly a Deir update, heavy fighting at the SAM site by the airbase. SAA forces successfully re gained parts of Mt. Thardah. This was big for them, at least showing they can counter attack a little bit.

Deir Ezzor SS disputes ISs claim they captured the SAM site saying they already had control of it anyway. Regardless this and Rusafe are the conflict areas now.

Being the North Aleppo region, I don't doubt that.

I forgot to mention that serving as sidekicks/cannon fodder for the Tiger forces, will be the Quds Brigade, the Ba'ath Brigades and the NDF.

I aint gonna be able to follow the action now, as I must leave. But before I leave, this image of a ISIS barricade in the Ithriya-Raqqa highway ; the ISIS guy in charge of deplying those mines was probably one big lazy son of bitch.
>>
>>30219725
They always do. It's amazing how slow the SAA has been to retake key locations despite a massive advantage in firepower and despite massive Russian/Iranian assistance to the point where they're basically leading the operations for them. But still years in and horrible progress.

"Victory any day now" has been the mantra of the Assadfag crowd for 5 years now.
>>
>>30219788
Masters of concealment.
>>
>>30219721
Operations started hours ago according to Ivan. Rebels are calming to have repelled the attack and some pro regime source is calming remarkable progress by SAA, probably both sides taking a fluidic approach to truth.

On the other side of Aleppo pro rebel are claiming JAF captured Zaytan and that battle for Khalasah has started with a SVBIED opening.
>>
>>30219788
Considering that in the last three, four assaults by Nusra we saw that they just drive up the main road into the village in question, just putting mines like that might have some effect. Also if he was smart and ran a trip wire between them it could be a party.
>>
>>30219797
> They always do

when they broke the siege of nubl and cut of north aleppo from the city? yeah a great disaster that was. Or when the SAA first led the offensive in south aleppo and capped Al Hadher, Al-Eis and Khan Tuman?

Victory for the SAA is closer then victory for the jihadist scum.

> implying the 'rebels' dont get any foreign support or foreign fighters

>>
>>30219846
>

SAA has a huge advantage in everything and more meaningful international support. Russian troops and round-the-clock bombing, and thousands of Iranians/Hezbollah to lead and fight for you is a bit more helpful then some TOWs.

SAA has performed miserably in this conflict, which btw is largely conventional. Despite every advantage imaginable they still don't control 2/3 of their own territory and are struggling to make slow gains even as ISIS is by all accounts collapsing.

I have no idea how Assad intended to "retake Golan" when his forces were not up to the task of defeating kids in toyotas without multiple countries coming to rescue him. Hell, even Iraniaen/Hezbollah support was not enough to save them and they had to get Russia to intervene directly just to stabilize things.
>>
>>30219870
Nusra has shown more capability in mechanized warfare than SAA, and SAA has been training in mechanized warfare for 60 years.
>>
>>30219273

>>

"Victory any day now" has not been assadboos mantra you fuck, we have real expectations and have always said the war would keep going for at least a few more years, and this is spearheaded by the tiger forces and they tend to get shit done so I don't think it'll strait up fail if it's worst case scenario
>>
>>30219900
The Nusra mechanized platoon followed by technicals rush has worked really well against the Shia militias so far. They're really gonna have to adapt or keep losing ground.

I've always wondered, where do people in the middle east get their cars? I mean I doubt with their standard of living the average person could afford a brand new toyota or some shit, so where do they all come from? Do other asian countries just ship their shitty old cars there and sell them for dirt cheap?
>>
>>30225311
.. people that arent in the dirt farming regions can afford cars because they have things like businesses and jobs. jesus fucking christ man everything that isnt the first world isnt in the fucking stone age.
>>
>>30223407
Iran has been there since ~2014, but it was Quds force only and Hezbollah (which is an extension of the Quds Force). In July they deployed regular IRGC battalions which again proved extremely ineffective and forced Russian intervention.

ISIS, Nusra, FSA, etc. don't have multiple regional and supposed world powers fighting for it so if anything I'm surprised they've been able to still retain so much control in the face of overwhelming forces. And no, foreign volunteers != having the armies doing your fighting for you
>>

A car in a poorer country will cost less. Also, Syria had a pretty high-tier income per capita before the war.
>>
>>30226003
This.

Being oil-rich meant that these countries can afford to ship in lots of cars, mostly roomy sedans, 4x4s, commercial trucks and vans, and various gray imports.

With heavy duty vehicles especially often being shunted back and forth between these countries it's no surprise there are ample supply of vehicles to build technicals and VBIEDs out of.

this is probably their long term objective

if they control that amount of syrian territory assad wont fuck with them and will probably give them a tonne of autonomy in whatever kind of state syria turns out to be after this war.

this in turn will give the kurds a huge and protected staging area from which to start a full on insurgency in southern turkey. as well as a wealth of experienced fighters to really ram it up the turk's ass.

we may be witnessing the birth of a new state.
>>

>>
>>30226880
I thought the discontent originated more from drought and poor harvests for much of the late-2000s that led to spiraling costs of basic living. Syria may had been relativity high in average income, but it pushed strongly for self-sufficiency for its food source and so was highly dependent on domestic agriculture to supply its population.

When that industry collapsed from harsh weather and poor irrigation management, the government wasn't able to compensate for the declining output and so support of the government eroded, especially in more conservative rural populations that were bitten the hardest by this.

As it's already apparent, the so awaited SAA assault in North Aleppo ended in a giant "Wow, it was nothing" again, as some anons already expected. I feel shameful for have expected something different for this time, even if we still need to see if the SAA will try again today or just leit be, again.

The good news for SAA is reports that they took Sfaiyah gas field and Rasafah junction, in the Ithrya-Raqqa highway, and are now 20km from Tabqa airbase, as well reports of SAA progress east of Palmyra.

Also, from Libya, as many of you probably already read/heard, the Government forces have reached the center of ISIS held Sirte. And with that, comes lots of stupidly funny footage of the Libyan forces.

Is even worse than you can imagine, because they are each day closer from being equal, in matter of organization and formation, with their Rebel enemies, as; many former units of the SAA only exist in name by now, the majority of their fighting force is formed by more independent particular units/militias, and, they have little to no time to train properly their new soldiers.

Being rich aint everything, as cost of living and quality of life like freedom etc matters a lot too.

Its why Africa in general ranks HIGHER then the Middle East in quality of living even though their gdp per capital is lower, if not growing. Peace and cheap everything has its perks. And the African wars are literally nothing but a drop in the bucket compared to the Mid East wars and even they are calming down.

Saturday reports:

- In Damascus, a VBIED exploded in the Sayyidah Zaynab district, while suicide bomber detonated at the entrance of al-Dhiyabiyah, ISIS took the responsability for the attacks. I hope Zvezda is alright.

- In Raqqa, 8 SAA soldiers got killed when 5 ISIS suicide fighters attacked the Zakia crossroad. The reports say that all the suicide fighters are under their 16 years old, and it seems that they captured one, not sure if from the same ocassion.

- SAA got some good gains east of Palmyra, as they captured the Telaylah crossing, Arak valley and the Arak gas field. The T3 station is being disputed.

- The SAA and NDF launched a attack, preceded by artillery and airstrikes, against Rebel held Kabaneh, in Latakia.

In Libya, the Government forces have reached the port in the city of Sirte.

It seems the kurds want to take a go at taking Al-Bab and Manbij at once, otherwise an advance that far towards Aleppo without taking Manbij doesn't make much sense.
>>
>>30237483
Yep, it seems so. It's a smart move to siege Manbij and worn out ISIS fighters inside the city. Otherwise, if the SDF had focused all efforts in assault the city, ISIS would try to exhaust the SDF/YPG forces with attrition, until possible reinforcers could arrive.

Take a look on this pic, its a Rojava map commonly found in the Rojava offices around some foreign countries. You can see Bab on it, so, indirectly the Kurds already claimed it for themselves.

The only way of the SAA stay with Bab now, would be if they get up and go grab it before the SDF/YPG do, and even so, the SDF/YPG would probably demand it, threatening to attack the SAA if they dont hand it over.

Aleppo has by far the highest count, followed by Damascus+Suburbs; then Eastern Ghouta and Homs (though Homs has been the deadliest, most devastating urban battle, its just silent there for the last two years, thats why it slipped down).

Deir az-Zour comes at the end of the Top5
>>
>>30237827
That map always cracks me up.
A shitload of territory that was NEVER in the hands of the kurds, nor had any kurdish population, being made part of Rojava.

I'll de living to see the end of this current conflict with ISIS and the rebels losing, only to see a new conflict involving the government and kurds. And the most hilarious thing of all is that I'm predicting a warming of relations between the syrian government and Turkey just to fuck kurds up.
Should be immensely entertaining.
>>
>>30237827
I always thought that the SAA were going for al-Bab and Dayr Hafir, the Kurds for Manbij.
There is only a tiny kurdish percentage in al-Bab and even that one may have disappeared since rebel and then ISIS takeover.

Think about it like this.

Who is currently the biggest threat to the SAA?

ISIS and then JaN and then South FSA.

Who has the best chance to cutoff ISIS from Turkey?
Who will likely fight with the FSA in North Aleppo and not as much with the SAA?

The Kurds.
As long as some ISIS is around, the Arabs in the SDF will be less likely to fight the SAA as well.

Who will lose foreign support once ISIS is not as powerful? Say in a year with a new US president?

The Kurds.

So looking towards the future, the SAA should allow the Kurds to take most of that Arab territory. But the SAA should take some of the Arab territory the Kurds claim as well.

Therefore in the future when America isn't as cozy with the Kurds, Syria will announce a liberation of Arab lands from the Kurds.

This will benefit Turkey relations, and will be a popular Sunni/Shia Arab operation.
It will unite Syria's Arabs.

The Syrian government only benefits in the long-term from the Kurds taking more land and becoming even more powerful.

I agree that the Kurds are being greedy in this matter, but is naturally to be expected in this kind of situation; The Syrian central government is weakened, tied with priority enemies and with difficulty to hold what they already have, while the Rojava forces and political importance are growing, maybe too fast. It is expected that the Kurds would take advantage in this kinda of situation.

>>30238389
If and when the SAA have done dealing with the Rebels and ISIS, they would probably be too exhausted to took a fight with the Rojava forces. It is more plausible, at least to me, that any future civil conflict in Syria will be within Rojava itself. Because they are already divided in their opinions about their own future, as the PYD desire the integration between the kurdish and arabs communities, and they also dont want to get independent from Syria, at least for now, while the KNC want kurdish autonomy or to join up with the Iraqi Kurdistan. And many of the arabs from the SDF fear the cessation/desintegration of Syria.

If they dont manage this well, things could explode in their faces.

One possibility is that SAA part won't be the one fighting. Its clear that Iraqi Kurds want to go independent and if they do Iraqi Shia militias are going to oppose them, and Shia militias have no manpower problems. Just as Iraq got cought up in Syrian civil war, so could Syria in Iraqs. Plus there is always Turkey, while they are blocked from taking direct action now because of ISIS, once ISIS is gone western interest will go with them and Turkey will remain there, probably hopping YPG gives them an excuse. And than there is oil, Kurds are currently sitting on majority of Syrian oil and large part of Iraqi oil.
