Brother built an AR from my old lower, upper and handguard. He likes it.

He made it look a little stupid (black/red) but whatever he likes I guess.

Cool. I was referring more to the fact they had an actual bench instead of the 10" wide nipple-height flimsy plastic tray most indoor ranges have, but that's always awesome too.

DAILY REMINDER
>an AR is capable of pic related with a "mediocre" barrel
Barrel is a DPMS mid-heavy 18" with 52gr SMK-FB handloads @ 100y.
Git gud fags. Trigger control, breathing, and a good rest go a long way.

Dpms varmint and precision barrels are known for performing well. Much like RRA it is how they established themselves above all the other commercial manufactures.

Their bargain basement offerings are still exactly that but their premium lines are good.

Also, pet loads rarely hurt ;)

Oh. This was the first indoor range I went to and I just keep going back there. Never been anywhere else, so that explains why I wasn't sure what you meant. Cheapest place I can find around me and the people there aren't pricks (pretty laid back). Since they rent full auto guns there I don't have to feel bad for going ham once in a while either.

The designation is what matters; not the profile. As a manufacturer (you buy a lower, then manufacture that into your own rifle, therefore making you the manufacturer) you can designate any barrel you like as an HBAR.

However, since I am 19 (need to be 21 to buy a lower), I am not the manufacturer. My grandfather is, since he is the one who bought the lower and "built the rifle" then gifted it to me as a rifle configuration. You can't sell the rifle with your own designated barrel, so I got a barrel designated as Heavy Barrel/HBAR from the website I ordered from.

tl;dr I have a Heavy Barrel, not an M4 profile because I'm 19. If you're 21+ you can designate YOUR barrel however you like.

Cleaning has many schools of though, I just go by what is easy and practical for me.

Carbon fouling every few hundred rounds so after a heavy carbine day, or every few range trips for the precision rifles.

Copper fouling when groups start to open up, depends on the barrel and jacket quality of what you are shooting on how long that may take.

When filing a stamp, anyone on the trust can file correct? Regardless if they are Grantor, Trustee, or Beneficiary?
and on the actual tax stamp does it have the information of the individual that filed it? or just the trusts information.
The reasoning behind me asking is because I'm about to go hit up someone to write the trust, but I'm 20 years old. So I was gonna have my mom on there as a trustee that way she can file the stamp so we dont have to go through all that new crap in July.

Effective July 13, 2016, the final rule “Machineguns, Destructive Devices and Certain Other Firearms; Background Checks for Responsible Persons of a Trust or Legal Entity With Respect to Making or Transferring a Firearm” amends the regulations to eliminate the requirement for a certification signed by a CLEO and instead adds a CLEO notification requirement. The chief law enforcement officer is the local chief of police, county sheriff, head of the State police, State or local district attorney or prosecutor. If the transferee is not a licensed manufacturer, importer, or dealer qualified under this part and is a partnership, company, association, or corporation, for purposes of this section, it is considered located at its principal office or principal place of business; if the applicant/transferee is not a licensed manufacturer, importer, or dealer qualified under this part and is a trust, for purposes of this section, it is considered located at the primary location at which the firearm will be maintained.

Christ.. cut the carry handle down to just the sight turret, put a first gen 4x ACOG on it, and that's an exact clone of the rifle I carried in Iraq back in 2003. We ended up installing M4 stocks on them because the A2 stock was such a cunt with an IBA and vehicles. Initial thoughts on the Sparc AR after a few magazines' worth of shooting: I don't care for the rubber lens caps. They fold back and attach together, but if they aren't attached together, they flop in front of the lens. (Though this problem can be avoided by removing the rubber housing from the sight.) Cowitnessing with my iron sights was fairly easy and straightforward, I just used a flathead screw driver on the windage/elevation turret things. I don't know if this is the case for all red dots, but I noticed it was MUCH easier (and basically necessary) to shoot with both eyes open, and to focus on the target instead of the dot itself. I didn't drop the sight or anything but just in general it seems well built (and heavier than I expected).

Enjoy not being able to get accessible spare parts, ammo, unsealed system that's far less reliable than an AR, or having a gun with any sort of acceptable modularity.

Also enjoy getting shot when you're mistaken for a terrorist. There is literally no reason to have an AK for that purpose unless you live in the arctic circle.

That's something that's been on my mind while getting parts for my first AR build, and first AR for that matter.

Is the level of carbon fouling released when the gas key and gas tube separate during the gun cycling and firing a new round any more significant than with a gas piston system like an AK? And if so, does that require more frequent cleaning than an AK?

Not that it matters to me, I already clean my AK after every range visit like it was an AR.
>>
So, I am finally taking steps to get insurance coverage for my guns, the trouble is, most of them were built from parts with the only "guns" I actually purchased as such being the stripped lowers.

Should I attempt to get the finished built guns covered, or should I just treat the lowers as the guns, since they are the only serialized parts I have specific receipts for?
>>
>>30220826
>are you so poor with guns that you need them to snap together...
I'm sorry, but not everybody has a 12-ton shop press, full-size anvil, specialty rivet tools, and a TIG welder. Because those are what's required to do much of anything with an AK receiver.
>>
So how much did you all spend? Thinking of getting parts but on a budget

/akg/ though...
>>
>>30221058
if you have to ask you don't wanna know
>>
>>30221011
There will be less carbon fouling in the receiver/on the gas tube in an AR than there will be on the head of the piston in an AK, simply because it's lower pressure and has further to travel.

Whether the location of the fouling in an AR makes it somehow more likely to cause a malfunction is hotly debated.

Rate my new hypothetical upper build.

Anderson upper

Assorted upper parts from who knows (with a port with some cheeky ironic nerd related thing because that's how we do)

Ballistic Advantage 16" midlength with 1:7 (never heard of them, but I read that they're good for budget minded barrels)

YHM Phantom comp/brake

YHM low pro gas block and tube

Aero Quantum MLOK

Total cost of it all will come in around $400 I think. I'll just have to figure out what sights or optic I want after that.

Pic unrelated. Just me and my rifle and a hot mug of BRC

Different guy but I might be able to answer those.
>how long is the wait?
Depends on the item, as well as an element of randomness due to literally only 6 people with the ATF processing NFA forms. Form 1's (homemade SBR's and homemade cans) take the second least amount of time. Currently about 3 months. Form 3's (dealer-to-dealer transfers) take the least, but are quite random right now. 1-3 months. Form 4's (purchasing a suppressor) take the longest, currently between 4 and 18 months.

E-file takes less time than paper file, but the ATF takes it offline seemingly randomly for weeks/months at a time. It's currently up but that can literally change in 5 minutes. They can also shut off certain forms (efile form 4 wasn't available for like 8 months but everything else was okay).
>is collecting and target shooting a good enough reason?
Yes.
>do I need to wear a tie to meet my CLEO?
If you don't do a trust and somehow manage to actually have paperwork finished and ready to submit in the next ~37 days, would be a good idea. However, 41F goes into effect I believe July 13th which removes CLEO permission requirement (changes it to notify). If you do a trust you never needed his permission.

Seriously, depends if you want super quiet or super low backpressure. SF makes the better fighting can, SiCo makes the better civvy-use can.

How do you mount an Aimpoint Pro style optic in the mount? Do you just eyeball it or use a level or something?

Alright.

I would recommend changing the grip to something fatter though, especially since it looks like that's set up for varminting or target work. Will help immensely with finger position on the trigger.
