I got 12ga slugs and 00 buck, and they literally cannot engage from range. Shouldn't be a problem as long as I'm not stupid enough to hang out in chokepoints, hallways, rooms with only one exit, and other extremely stupid indefensible places.
Also, unlike the marines, I've watched multiple documentaries on the creatures and am well informed on their strengths, weaknesses, and tactics.

I can say with certainty that I would be rendered dog meat before the 17th day.
I could possibly manage to go undetected for 3 or 4 days but ultimately the search for water would leave me well fucked.
I at least imagine taking a few xenomorphs out in the struggle. M14 would do the job well but I might have to stick with my AR15 due to reliability concerning the M14. .44 magnum should also be sufficient but the fucking muzzle flash is a concern in dark areas.
My EDC LC9 would only be good for ending myself, hopefully before being throat-raped by a facehugger.

Newt's survival made more sense after watching deleted scenes.
Before the xenos her and the other kids used to play in the vents and shit. Essentially she likely knew the facility better than most of the adults due to her exploration at play. This is demonstrated in the movie as she guides the others around.
Her small size was also a benefit. It's plausible that she could fit into locations a grown xenomorph could not. It is also plausible she could seal herself off into some locations to avoid facehuggers.
Supplies: during the initial slaughter of the colonists she probably could have remained hidden surviving off the shit kids take into their secret hiding places. What kid doesn't collect juice boxes and candy in their "club house".
The rest was all luck and good thing fire Ripley because luck doesn't last forever.
