So I'm thinking about getting a 45 and am looking at 1911s.
But they're almost as diverse as ARs!. What features/brands should I look for or avoid?

if you get a ria get the one with the smaller logo.

If you want a bare bones 1911 imo i would get a springer milspec

Second
OP if you want biggest bang for your buck SIG and Smith & Wesson are going to be your best bets followed closely by Springfield. I highly recommend going out and trying a few all over the price spectrum to see what you like and what you can go without. Also, don't be afraid to buy used. Alot of people who like 1911s tend to have to many of them and sell them off, learn how to inspect one and save yourself some cash. I got this early S&W Performance Center with newer Hinie tritium straight eights for $650 from Cabellas. YouTube is your friend, do your research!

I am a 1911 addict. If I were to do it all over again, I would get a plain turkshit GI model such as the Zig. Get comfortable with that and use it to figure out what changes you would like to make, and then get a nicer gun with all those features already on it. That way you avoid spending a small fortune in accessories, frankengun syndrome, and other woes.

Alternatively you could start off with a Colt Series 70, which is something you will """need""" to have in your collection eventually.

Bonus advice: look up what an idiot scratch is. And if you get a blued or parkerized 1911, use a leather holster. This way your holster wear will look badass, and not lopsided and scratchy.

So... avoid kimber?

Kimber is fucking garbage.
Just get a Springfield or Ruger

Guy is offering to trade a colt 1911 gold cup series 70 for my Armalite lower AR. Should I Do it?

How do Ruger 1911s actually compare? I'll admit I'm a fan of Ruger and have been told the SR1911 is pretty good for the price.

Little caveat: the only 1911 I've ever handled was a miniaturized Llama chambered in .32ACP

An extended beaver tail is nice.

if you're not hell bent on a 1911 the p220 is a great choice
>>

Just get an RIA and for how much you end up shooting .45 it will do you fine.

How does the SIG 1911 Scorpion measure up to the Springfield TRP? Anyone here that's shot/owns both?

I wouldn't recommend a 21 to anybody who hasn't shot or held one, it is nice but fucking huge in the grip if you have medium to small hands.
>>
>>30207418
Springfield has more agrees I've checkering on the front strap (to a fault imo, it's not pleasant), a full length guide rod (another fault depending on who you ask), and is milled out for target adjustable sights depending on what version you get. With 1911s you really gotta balance out the cost/benifit ratio in your new purchase. Many "Premium" features don't do much for shooting or performance and add hundreds to the price tag. Both Sig and Smith barrels are hand fit and both come with checkering, night sights, extended safeties and mag releases, and beveled mag wells. TRP are excellent 1911s but there are quite a few others who do the same at lower $$. Do your research and fingerfuck these things, you'll thank yourself later.

SIG is one of the most underrated 1911 makers in the game. If you don't like the goofy new age SIG slide, get one of their traditional models. The TRP and SIG Tac Ops Traditional are almost identical. (Springfields finish and sights are a little nicer)

that is a valid point. but I recall seeing many reviews about the 92FS/M9 and people going on about how 'fuckhuge' it was.
I finally went and checked one out at a LGS and i was amazed because it almost seemed like a compact pistol when i held it in my hand.
For a 'fullsize' pistol it fit easily into my hands and seemed like it would be very comfortable and easy to use.
