T-90 that could have been.
>A particularly notable feature was the rejection of the T-64 hull design. The redesigned layout took up more space, but positively affected ergonomics and protection from the glacis plate. Due to lengthening of the hull's nose section, the driver's position was lower, with his optics attached to the roof of the hull, unlike in the T-64 and its derivatives. This remedied a notorious weak spot of the T-64 design - the section between the turret and the hull.

Im not sure, but I assume the gun had to be rotated so that it will be parallel to the chassies. 140mm ammunition would probably be fed from the hatch behind the turret ring. It seems impractical and might be a reason this never even made it to prototype stage.

Picture the scene:

We're standing in the divided city of Berlin, the year is 1989

The cold war is coming to its conclusion and we are about to witness a part of that. It's a moment that will go down in history and live forever in the hearts of those who witnessed it.

Famous phrases like "Ich bin ein Berliner" and "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" echo through your mind.

As the first symbolic strike lands, everyone is expecting a piece of wall to be chipped off, however on closer inspection all that's happened is my knackers have been detached and destroyed by a heavy hammer blow.

In fact I had buried myself inside the Berlin Wall decades before and flopped my hairy ballsack out at just the right moment to have them smashed into a fine paste.

Also, does anyone else really enjoy the Object designation used by the Soviets/Russians? There's not as much translated information about many Soviet experimental tanks and prototypes, so the Object designation adds such a significant flare of mysteriousness that I can't help but enjoy it.

The general layout is different, but the concept itself was somewhat up in the air at that time. Soviets have been experimenting around the idea of an unmanned turret since mid-70s or so, but these were all different designs. Object 299 was Soviet Armata in the sense that it was an attempt to not only introduce an unmanned turret, but also to create a universal platform. However the exact Armata predecessor from which it was directly derived is Object 195 developed since late 80s.

>IIRC they later confessed they stuffed the tank with explosives.

Tanks *are* stuffed with explosives. It's called ammunition.

On top of that, the fact that the thing penetrated the armor is the important bit, not what happened next. You can't shoot two giant shaped charges through the top of a tank and have nothing happen to it. You're going to hit something or someone important regardless of how much boom is packed inside.

But go ahead and slavaboo it up, I guess.

So I see you still didn't learn to read the posts you are replying to? Just how hurt must you be to omit it not once, but twice and furthermore now obviously deliberately? So let me school you once again then if you insist so much: the post you are referring to directly states that it does not matter whether what I recall reading about the tank being excessively stuffed with explosives is true or not. Still, I strongly recommend you tanking your meds. Your condition raises concerns.

It was a B-17 modified by Lockheed to have inline engines in case the R-1820 somehow became an unfavorable engine choice. It preformed better and seemed promising but the project was cancelled when the only prototype crashed due to an engine fire.
