It's more the fact that it has to be a stated rule instead of just understood. At least the people who go there are generally really cool sorts (I've gotten to try more different guns from friendly people including a sick as hell big scoped custom revolver with handloads), even if the management has a death grip on doing fun things lest all the houses popping up around it get the place shut down.

There's a couple outdoor ranges that I know of but they're east or northeast metro, but depending on where in Bloomington, a 30-49 minute drive for you.
Bald Eagle Sportsmans Association in Hugo and Oakdale Gun Club.
I had bad experiences in Oakdale with an overzealous RO about me picking up my own brass. He accused me of stealing brass and treated me like a thief. I've also saw reviews of other shit ROs.
After that I did hear that they had a blood purge of the thunderfudd ROs and they have gotten better about it.
I have never had an issue at Bald Eagle and that's where I have my current membership.
